New Firefox, in case you're interesting.

Winamp 5.04 was released to, in a complete unrelated note.

What's updated in 0.9.3? I grabbed it last night for the sheer hell of it, but I couldn't track down the release notes.

Firefox, Thunderbird, Mozilla Suite Upgrades Released

mozilla.org today released minor upgrades to three of its major products. Firefox 0.9.3, Thunderbird 0.7.3 and Mozilla 1.7.2 are all now available. These three new releases were created to correct 4 possible security vulnerabilities in past versions of each product. The Buildbar has links for all three releases.

The fixes:http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?bug_id=251381,249004,250906,253121

IE is like a diseased carcass. It doesn't move, is sickly at its best, and attracts the worst kind of parasites and vermin.

:)

Oh yeah right. Microsoft knows about flaws in IE and Windows. They choose to not correct them until they become a problem.

Also, FireFox's four flaws are nothing compared to the boatload of flaws in IE.

It doesn't matter. Everyone complains about MS and all the holes in their software. They aren't the only ones. Too much MS bashing goes on these days.

That's true, but it's also quite amazing just how much crap spybot and adaware would pick up every month, when running IE exclusively. I've had NONE since switching to Firefox. That says a lot, too.

It's not MS bashing. It's IE bashing, because it totally blows ass.

I like Windows XP, but with firefox. I've recommended it to all my friends and family, and everyone loves it.

IE is the most used browser. Of course it's going to have more spyware. It has the bigger userbase, which means you develop what ever you can for it because you know more people have access to it.

If firefox had the userbase size as IE you would see the same problems.

Not really. Most of the major IE flaws stem from its tight integration into Windows, not its popularity.

And is Windows popular? Linux even has it's fair share of problems, and its not even as popular as Windows.

If it's out there and its popular enough, anything will have its fair share of exploits. MS is the biggest out there. They reach more people than any other software company. Of course they are going to be attacked more.

Man, I wish they'd explain the reinstallation process better. I'd definitely suggest Firefox to my parents but the way Mozilla never seems to explain basic stuff like the fact that uninstalling your browser does not lose your bookmarks/passwords/etc when you reinstall the newer version. And I really wish they'd perfect sharing Firefox across XP profiles, but then again most programs are bad at it (Winamp, I'm soooo looking at you) and Firefox is a lot better than it was last year.

And as has been demonstrated, flaws in Linux, Mozilla, and Mac OS, when spotted, are fixed much more quickly than Microsoft's rather glacial pace.

That and your point is pretty flawed. Firefox runs on the most popular operating system, but it doesn't have nearly the same amount of bugs and security holes. The latter in IE stems from the integration into Windows, not the fact that it happens to run on Windows.

Man, SP2 will finally add pop-up blocking to IE. Welcome to 2002, Redmond.

But for the same reason, one might hope they'd be able to defend more.

There's a lot more fixed in XPSP2 than just pop-up blocking.

After SP2 IE should be a lot more solid regarding security.

Pardon me while I politely ask "Yeah, where have I heard that one before?"

(And no shit SP2 has more than just pop-up blocking, I was just pointing out one of the more egregious examples of Microsoft's policy of updating their crap when they damn well please because they own the market.)

True true. We'll just have to wait and see what happens over the next few months with IE then.

IE is old and busted, not just because it gets so many god damned spyware shit and all, but also the fact that you have to fix your less computer savy friend's computer whenever it goes on the fritz. Holy crap its funny sometimes to watch them open up IE and see 50 popups come up, just for that. And whenever you do a search and lycos pops up and does it as well. Its always embarassing to messing with someones computer when a giant porn ad pops up.

And what about extensions when uninstalling-reinstalling? What problems have you found about sharing Firefox across XP profiles (and yes, Winamp sucks at this...)?

A recent PC Magazine article actually said that comparatively, Microsoft fixes flaws FASTER than competitors.

Look guys, I also use Firefox in my computer. But it is a matter of time until the new IE crushes the competitors once again.

There is no chance to compete with Microsoft in the windows platform.

Though only way I'll replace FF is if something happens to it to make it total shit. I don't see what/how MS can do to reinvent MSIE to make it both secure and as functional and fast as FF is.

Well thats bullshit because in IE's case they are the slowest.

It's cyclic. One company releases a product, then others release products to one up the first. i expect the new IE to feature some things which will obviously be the result of a large R&D budget, and some of those things will trickle into other browsers, some will not. But i'll likely stick with Firefox. It's got a few flaws (extensions not cleanly installing/uninstalling), but it's so useful i hate even having to use IE for the oddball site.

is there any way to get firefox to accept the "right-click" windows key?

Are you talking about the context menu key next to the right windows key? It works well for me, not that i need to use it (right-click brings up the menu by default).

That is exactly what I'm talking about. In firefox this button is not active. It's really useful for copy/paste, much faster than using the mouse.

Works the same as in IE for me. When i select text, it gives me the copy, select all, search the web for the selected text, view source (with the selected source highlighted in small window), or view properties. i'm running FF 0.9.3 on a three-day old XP SP1 install.

I think it's your system or something. The button works fine on my install, too.

Heck, if you want to copy and paste fast, just use Ctrl-C, CtrlV...

True it might me my system.

But that buttom works in EVERYTHING else including IE, Outlook, Office etc. etc. etc.
