There is one spot you can kill the fury from, where you shouldn't get hit once (assuming you aren't trying to tranq him). If you have the patriot it's cake.
On a somewhat related note, does anyone have a link to a summary of all the major plot points of MGS2? I played it a while ago, and after some time, got so pissed off with the story that I just kinda blocked out most of what happened, and most of the explanation about the Patriots.
Yea i got his camo, i held him up 3 times but i did them in a row, didnt leave him anytime to leave, i also shot the gun next to his head and he gave the camo.
no, Solidus pretended to be Solid Snake for a while (or atleast, the official note from the terrorists holding up the Big Shell, or whatever it was called, was said to be lead by Solid Snake).
After losing his eye in the Harrier fight (which is the opposite eye that Big Boss lost), Ocelot tells Solidus that he is the spitting image of Big Boss. Solidus probably thought of himself as a great soldier and leader like Big Boss, but that was probably fueled a lot by his ego. I don't think Solidus ever claimed or tried to pretend to actually pass himself as the original Big Boss/
I dont know if anyone has pointed this out yet, if so just ignore me but ... In the very first cut scene where Snakes schools Ocelot and his crew, he knocks them all out cold. But after that when you get control again you have all of them at your feet ... including Ocelot ... so I wondered what would happen if you took a knife to Ocelot and killed him ... obviously that would be messed up since hes in MGS1 and MGS2 ... so what happens? You get a game over! CHEAP! Instead of saying SNAKE IS DEAD as usual it says OCELOT IS DEAD ... then Campell from MGS1 comes on and says "Snake!! You've created a time paradox!!" And then OCELOT IS DEAD morphs into TIME PARADOX ... just thought that was a cool little thing Kojima stuck in there that you all should know about ...
i'll post my impressions of the game after i'm done. but i basically have the same question as bishop. can you download a camo pattern and use it in the middle of a game?

Yes, if you want to allocate 800k for the camo. I played last week when all that was available was Mummy and Grenades. Neither of those helped anywhere near as much as the "real" camos.
Just crouch down by the exit door and snipe away. He'll be done in no time, and his blasts won't hit you because he's actually below your position when stomping around the pillars. The only time you have to look out is if he jumps up to your level - shoot him and he'll fly away.
The End last night, and I had my position, looking around for him. I heard him breathing, so I turned around, and the fucker was RIGHT THERE with the sniper rifle pointed at my face. It was funny, because I jumped, and The End said something in a startled voice.
Just finished the game yesterday. Starting over to get all the damned frogs.
Just a quick question: Let's say I have found all the frogs up to the Ocelot fight at the ravine, and I suddenly die. I haven't saved since the beginning. Does this mean I lose all the frogs I've found, or just the one on the in the fight?

AFAIK the game saves your status automatically in RAM when you enter every room/area, so if you save after you die and continue, I think the save should reflect your exact status when you first entered the room/area/fight (of course it adds 1 to the number of times you died & continued for the final rank, but you should have all your frogs intact)... Don't quote me on this though.

First the Santa camo, and now New Year's... Japanese MGS3 players get yet another camo download while we are still stuck with same first 2.
WTH, Konami!!!
Ahh... beat it again. 7.5 hours compared to 16.5 though. Skipped all the cutscenes this go around.
Beat The Boss and The End by wearing out their stamina, but I only got Snake Camo, wasn't I supposed to get The Boss's camo too? Bah.
I'll be playing a third time. I hear there are other things you can do in the game for fun and it's a short run through, so I don't mind. I love this game.
The camo you get for tranqing the Boss is the Snake Camo. To get the black version of the Boss's sneaking suit, check the lockers near where you stuffed General Ivan when ytou go back to blowup the fuel tanks with the c3. Tranqing The End gets you his sniper tranq gun, to get his camo you have to hold him up.

I have a relatively mundane question that I probably could have found in the other 47,000 pages in this thread, but I don't feel like searching through them all. So:
I've just reached the cliff overlooking Groznyj Grad, past the mountain fortress,
and I don't yet have any sort of RPG. I remember someone mentioning on page 12,453 about how fun it was blasting choppers with RPG's, and I noticed on the approach to the mountain ruin that many of the soldiers are packing them.
Did I miss it? I've got sequential saves, so I can always go back, but I don't want to go any further if I missed it.
Needless to say I am completely bedazzled by this game. One of the most thoroughly enjoyable experiences I've had, well, since MGS2 (actually since Metroid Prime to be correct). Considering how big a fan I was of that game, its going to take a lot to put Snake Eater over the top, but I think its on the right path so far. I want to hurry up and finish so I can read the boatloads of story spoilers contained in this thread!! I cant tell you how many "peeks" I've made at the first few words of spoilers before forcing myself to stop and pick the controller back up. That says a LOT about how great this game is.
Oh and a sidenote, does The End's
death cinema change if you blast his parrot? I didn't kill/capture it and he showed up in the clip..I'm assuming it would have to be different if the bird is dead.
Actually, equipping the Ga-Ko camo can help you in locating frogs you've missed. If the camo starts making that Kerotan ribbit sound, it means you still haven't shot the frog in that particular area. This is helpful during the chase sequences, as you can blow the hell out of the frog's general vicinity, then switch to the Ga-Ko to see if you hit it.

Got to the end boss tonight and turned it off before throwing my PS2 out the window.
Final Impressions:
1. Amazing graphics. Best looking PS2 game.
2. Incredible cutscenes. The production values are just amazing. The story is quite interesting and captivating.
3. HOLY CRAP! The bosses design is just fantastic. Top notch.
4. Good soundtrack.
I will be hated for the next points:
5. Same craptastic control/camera as always. Can't move and look ahead of you at the same time. WTF is this? It's sad that a game with such incredible production values have to resort to an unintuitive control scheme to add a degree of difficulty to the game.
6. Sneaking in the game is pretty cool, but hindered by the controls.
7. I HATE THE LAST BOSS.
Will developers EVER realize that timed battles, and escorting missions suck?
God, I haven't been frustrated like this by any game in such a long time. I want to get done with the game to shelve it and forget about it and this stupid boss is just so incredibly annoying. Again, i wouldn't have an issue if it wasn't a

Anyways, ill post some tips for beating the last boss if you want some help.
Her gun doesnt do that much damage so just make sure you dont get CQC'd. To do this counter her CQC. Right after she grabs you to do her CQC, press the Circle button to counter her CQC. Once you counter you can punch her to the ground and then shoot her in the head a few times.
If you dont want to do counters and CQC, you can put on an all white camo(snow camo or scientist if you have it) and snipe her. Obviously, you will have to stay hidden, but its not to hard if you have a high camo rating.
Also, i forgot about those life injection shots, for the first 20 times i tried to beat her. They really helped a lot because i didnt have to worry about my health to much anymore, so i beat it well before the timer ran out.
Just finished the game and got a Crocodile rating. WOW. Not only is this GOTY, but I think this may oust Earthbound as my favourite game EVER. I got
all the boss camos, but now I gotta go through to get all the frogs.
I have two questions:
1. Against Volgin and The Boss I found
stun grenades helpful (along wtih the knockout cloth). Did anyone else use stun grenades?
2. For people trying to get through the game with no detection or kills, how the hell would you
get out of Grozny Grad after you lose all your items? With just the fork and the revolver I found it incredibly difficult to sneak by the soldiers. Eventually I gave up and just ran for the sewers. How do you get by without being detected?
I pretty much sniped away, and kept my distance. Tricky, but well, it worked. I'm disappointed at this boss. Volgin was a funner boss. This one was a nuisance.
I have to give the game BIG points for the ending and the story. WOW WOW WOW!
Yeah, they helped against Volgin, but after I used them a couple of times against the Boss, she would rush me and CQC my ass, and if I didn't counter, then she'd send the rest of my stun grenades scattering across the field!
Definite props for the ending. Took me a while though - I died and continued so many damn times.
for the boss, i ended up just punching and kicking her ass. if you complete a combo, she gets stunned and you can bring her down. then just shoot her in the head. basically if you run after her and mash buttons, you can get a stamina win in about 3 minutes. you can do something similar for every boss in normal. normal is very very easy.
That's what KCEJ just posted on their site (it's from a magazine in France). I didn't think mags really did scores where they give games higher than their review charts allow.
Wasn't sure if I should either start a new topic or add to this one, but anyways:
So I picked this game up from Kaybee for $20 (actually 2 copies) and was going to use them as return/trade-in bait. I played a bit of the demo and for some reason just couldnt get into it - even after playing through MGS1, MGS2 and Twin Snakes, which was my fav out of all 3 - probably because it combined the great story of 1 with the great graphics of 2.
With 2 copies sitting on my desk, and reading all the praise from these boards, I decided to give mgs3 a chance. I mean afterall, I was able to stomach the downfalls of mgs2 (loved the tanker, but like most, hated playing as raiden) - I think part of the reason the demo turned me off was my anticipation of halo 2 and being right smack in the middle of san andreas. Or maybe because I was high when I played the demo and got my ass kicked - who knows.
Now that I lost half the people reading this - let me just say I'm glad I decided to open the game and play it. I've only made it up to the in-game credits (about 2 hours in) and it seems like the game is gonna be awesome. Not sure theres anything I can say about the game that hasnt been said though. Amazing gaphics for ps2 hardware, AWESOME music, etc. The sneaking aspect in this one is so much more refined and intense than the previous games - sneaking in to rescue Sokolov was alot of fun. After getting spotted a few times, I finally got into the swing of things. At first it was frustrating because I noticed the timer doesnt go away when you leave a screen - so I was constantly getting shot at. By the time I succeeded, I pretty much took out every guard without being scene, even got onto the rooftop to kill half of them, then shot a few birds for some eatin.
The Cinemas and Codec scenes seemed unbelievably long, but I'm assuming it's because I just started. I kinda liked the japanese voices in the demo compared to the english ones, not sure if theres a way to switch. That would probably be my only complaint so far.
So thats about it - I'm refraining from reading anyones posts in this thread, dont wanna spoil anything. I guess my point is, if anyone picked this up for the same reasons I did, play the damn game instead.
