Official October 2008 NPD Results

yes, same time frame. And, of course, considering the fact that LittleBigPlanet hit retail in the last week of October in the U.S., I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that the game will be picked up by more than a few stragglers this month.

I would like to see the wii beat the PS2 november record of 1.2 million.

Can it happen?

It could be an indication of sales because Uncharted was a relatively unknown, but high quality title that released at the end of the month amidst high competition, and through word of mouth the sales of the title grew as the season went on.

Problem is that Uncharted has guns while LBP don't.

Hasn't Sony spent a truckload of money on LBP advertising? Ineffectual spending if you consider the game relatively unknown.

LBP was tracked for less days and sold better than Uncharted during its first month. Guns? Yeah, but no chainsaw, no excessive violence, no 600 pound main characters. People wrote it off as a Tomb Raider clone.

If they have spent a truckload of money on LBP advertising, I've seen no evidence of it or they haven't started it yet.

I saw more Uncharted ads last November than I've seen LBP ads.

I was thinking of this:

Off to a pretty poor start on that one. And bad news for the rest of their titles if that's the biggest.

Billboards the size of a dollar bill is what they spent it on I guess, because "little is big(planet)"!

Damn, I can't believe they were that stupid, the point of billboards is that people see them, people can't see small advertisments, it's like they made those advertisments for sackboy's.

Also the try-out locations and stores, which were closed days before release. Those fools should've sold the game there and kept that shit open, give the place a christmas theme, allow people to download special christmas Sackboy stuff etc.

A classic of example of: What were they thinking?

I saw more Uncharted ads last November than I've seen LBP ads.

There have been way more LBP tv ads, they are airing on all sorts of channels (MTV, Spike, MSNBC, TBS), and before the game came out it was being promoted by Gamestop ads to get the free pre-order bonuses (first time I ever saw a Gamestop commerical)

I have seen 6 LBP ads just today, so to say its not being heavily advertised is not true if we are talking about TV. Uncharted barely ever got advertised on TV outside of the Playstation 3 ads were it was featured as one of many games alongside Blu-Ray.

But I think the problem is the ads is off, the ones I saw today had Sackboy running through a level and then jumping on a bus. But it really did not tell me what it was and to someone not in the know (aka "casual") they may look at it and thing WTF is that?

Same thing with their newest ad with the reflection. No mention of what the game is or what it's about.

How about we wait and see? As Hoffman and others have mentioned, maintaining strong sales through the Christmas season isn't unprecedented, and has been particularly common for a title of Little Big Planet's ilk.

As others have mentioned, it's less common for titles that got big advertising pushes at launch from large producers to take off later; it's also less common for games on the PS3 in general, both due to the low install base and general "hardcore" tilt of the system.

I believe that summarizes all of the relevant information we have. Now, we'll have to wait and see which of the above factors takes precedence.

Im gonna do what i should have done along time ago,Buy 360 and enjoy both worlds :D. I quit being sony's warrior D : <!!. Fable 2 i will have wild sex with you till this generation is over. And God of war 3 i am still thinking of you every night.
YES!! it feels good

How you like me now sony?!! > : D

Buy condoms, lots of them. While you're at it, buy Dead Space too (on either platform).

I'm surprised that Dead Space didn't get better sales to be honest. The game has great presentation and feels like a mix of Doom and Resident Evil 4. I've only finished the first level (was busy with Fable 2) but I'm enjoying it so far.

Gamasutra.
Just finished putting my article into Gamasutra's system. I'll try to get a thread up once I've been told it's been published (in about 12 hours).

The only additional info I was able to procure this month was the top 20. I hope to get a clarification on that tomorrow.

Jesus christ talk about milking, the first game came out like 5 months ago. :/

I wouldn't be surprised if both games were completed around the same time. It's basically just a different tracklist, no different from the PS2 Singstars.

I wonder if Decades will be big though. I'm a big GH fan and I won't get it. I imagine a lot of On Tour's customers hated it.

Well the first one continued to sell long past the first two months, you usually don't sell 1 million copies of something and then bomb the next.

I know I will be picking it up, it has a track listing thats supreme to the 1st game in every way and allows the ability to share music between the two games for vs mode

The complaints about it are so overblown, I still play it to this day but you cant play it for extended sessions

Which is why the on the go version I think will sell better, people only play 1-2 songs before they are off their break or want to do something else

I'm going to pick up Decades, as I rather enjoyed On Tour. With a peripheral like that, though, the difference between a good time and a bad time can rely on something as random as the shape and size of your hand/fingers.

I just hate the frets. I'd rather just play with the DS buttons. The strums are fantastic in the game though.

Why play the DS version when you've got the real thing? I still don't understand the appeal of Guitar Hero DS to anyone but little kids.

I'll second markatisu there, I have seen a ton of LBP commercials. That and Motorstorm.

Oh come now Opiate, that's the rational thing to do. Should people do the rational thing then how would we know who gets to make fun of whom next month?

I have no interest in GH of any type myself, but I can certainly see why non-kids would be interested in the DS version even as an only version. Namely it's portable, but perhaps they like the little 4 button thing, or maybe they just hate the guitar controller or think it looks stupider or more kiddy. Then again it could be a horrible toned down version and they're masochists.

Uncharted never charted in the US top 10, unfortunately.

Yet it still went on to sell 1.2 million+ copies worldwide, at that was the number as of February 2008:

You know sales numbers are funny right? If you look at the NPD charts we’re like about 1.2 million worldwide. Definitely in the black. We’ve made back our investment, and it’s only February. The word-of-mouth on it is great. If you chart things out, our lines look really nice. It’s just a steady little climb.

GAF, did we ever find out how well GHWT sold?

360 wins the first round

Courtesy of gamespot.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6201179.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;2

Numbers for GHWT:

Xbox 360 191,049
Wii 182,845
PlayStation 3 96,657
PlayStation 2 63,462

Rock Band 2:

360 119,569
PS3 118,559

For the lulz

Unfortunately, October was not nearly as kind to the third instrument-based rhythm game released during the month, Rock Revolution. According to NPD figures, Konami's critically savaged game sold less than 3,000 units across the entirety of the country during the month. According to the data, the game sold 1,442 for the 360, 816 for the PS3, 666 for the DS, and only two copies for the Wii.

Wasn't Uncharted bundled with the system in Europe? I'm pretty sure they are counting those as "sales".

This doesn't make any sense since NPD only covers North America so if you look at the NPD charts, you won't see WW numbers.

Maybe they meant VG instead of NPD. ;)

Edit:
Yep, it's a VGC number through February.

Wow about 9k separate the 360 and the Wii, and the PS3 and PS2 got slaughtered in comparison (even if you combined the two it would still fall 20k-30k short)

Jan NPD should prove interesting since Rock Band 2 will release on Wii and we will get to line it up against the others (Rock Band 1 for Wii has sold more than 500k as of Sept 2008)

Why play the DS version when you've got the real thing? I still don't understand the appeal of Guitar Hero DS to anyone but little kids.

I have seen many more adults playing it then kids, its a fun excursion that does not require you to bring out the guitars and have to turn your living room into a stage

I play mine at work and on long trips (we live in the midwest, everything is a long trip), I have all the other versions of GH and RB but when you just want to play 1-3 songs to pass time or just because you feel like it then its far easier to boot up the DS
