And new Overwatch 2 accounts will have to unlock old heroes

They keep digging the grave. At this point feels like they're trying to sabotage it.
I also don't even think it's legal to record voice chat, in Europe.

Let's be stated for the record that whoever gives his phone number away like this is an idiot who's bringing down us all.

Phone number eh, makes sense against cheaters I guess but THIS????????????

The whole idea behind Overwatch was that you can always pick a hero to counter teams, that means with the influx of new players everyone will just stick with that shitty hero and wont be able to adapt. Like wtf is even the point of Overwatch if u cant play all the heroes? Jesus fuck.

That's awesome. Maybe they have a thing where like, after a good match, your favorite Hero or waifu calls you on the phone.

They may compliment your performance, point out how you two were meant for each other, and maybe tell you about a gift they left you in the online casino storefront.

I would take that call.

I feel like I'm the only person looking forward to overwatch 2 🤣

I got into Overwatch 1 fairly late and quite enjoyed myself.

I do think locking out new players from old heroes is a big mistake though, as surely if someone has all the heroes they can just focus on buying costumes instead, for people that enjoy buying skins.

I hope we can still unlock stuff for free too.

Overwatch was already a dying game and they are trying to save it by making it literally worse in every conceivable way

Well I already decided I was done with Overwatch at this point I'm just watching a dumpster fire from miles away.

Really too bad they are taking away the game I already purchased and are replacing it with this, I might actually have fired up classic mode in the first one once in a while. At this point, I just want nothing to do with Blizzard ever again.

Good there's 10 trillion smurfs in OW1 abusing the matchmaking system to stomp on noobs. This should reduce that a fair amount.

I don't mind. The game is going F2P and this will combat smurfs and cheaters as that could have easily be exploited. No matter how good an anti cheat system is people will always find a way and this will lower those incidents

As for the heroes lock that's also something i don't mind. Last thing i want is a new player doing 0 kills on Widowmaker. Locking them into a more basic hero like Soldier should make them familiar with the game. This whole thing of requiring phone number has been know for over 6 months.

yeeeeeeeeeee no.

was quite looking forward to trying it out. you're not getting my phone number. i know lots of companies already have my number but i try my best to limit how much i need to give it out. in this case i simply need to NOT play a game? easy!

the amount of companies wanting phone numbers these days is ridiculous. might be worth setting up an anonymous secondary number for these obtrusive companies.

Consoles will have a hole for your finger with the little metal pricks to take blood samples in the future

People will be fine with it because ''They already have so much on your info anyway, who cares?'' & ''Get with times old man! Blood sampling is the norm now''

giving out a phone number to a company at ordering or on goverment forms as a contact is standard. so no idea what is so weird here, except it being new to gaming and gaming companies are baddies.

Voice chat is annoying and have yet to play a single public game where it wasn't just guys grunting, clearing their throats or minors squeeking overeager some unnecessary bs. But actually never stumbled over some racial, vulgar, misogynistic or whatever session. I play almost no MP though. But I understand trying to filter out people who misbehave and make online a pain for everyone else.

There are certainly restricting laws for data protection which make communication, exchange of any data even between govermental organisations impossible, or rather just not legal, but data retention in the wake of anti terror was exactly aimed at saving entire weeks of everyones internet travels and phone calls or something. Just got overturned on the 20th this month.
I guess saving everything or storing it long term would be illegal but saving specific transcribed text logs as evidence, as a reason for a ban, sounds to me like something that should still be possible. Temporary saving a couple of minutes and transcribing certain parts and indivuals when reported and deleting the rest. Seems reasonable.

I'm in love with OW1 and hate for many reasons OW2.
My concern is how I'll be able to play OW1 in the next few months ???

That doesn't make Fuz Fuz wrong though.
Or right.
The more barriers you make, the better. A phone number is the least invasive thing they can do. Players cry for anticheat measures all day without understanding that it means giving up portions of your "safety".

Installing a kernel anticheat is insanity to me. But a phone number? not really.
