The leak arose when Steam confirmed the existence of the game before an official Steam page debuted. In addition, an earlier Reddit thread from user LongJonSiIver confirmed Paradox had trademarked three new game titles, including Surviving the Abyss. Paradox is famous on Steam as the studio behind grand strategy titles Crusader Kings and Cities: Skylines. The addition of the game's title to Steam's database luckily didn't share any pertinent details about the game, which now has an official page and January 17, 2023 release date.

Following its official reveal, it was learned that Surviving the Abyss will task players with weaponizing genetics, with a resource management formula familiar to strategy gamers. Some fans had hoped for a Paradox-produced fantasy strategy title, but it appears they'll have to settle for an undersea sci-fi world instead.

Surviving the Abyss will be available on PC on January 17, 2023.

It is 1976, at the height of the Cold War. You have been tasked with the construction and management of a deep-sea research facility and team deep on the ocean floor.

Your mission: to perfect and weaponize human cloning using the various biological wonders of the ocean.
Your challenge: to survive in the oppressive abyss long enough to complete your mission while something sinister lurks in the shadows beyond the perimeter for your facility.

Good luck, Overseer.

In Surviving the Abyss, take full operational authority of your deep-sea research facility and perfect the process of cloning.
