this is one of those things that just doesn't work in live action, similar to mr fantastic and stretch body parts (i'd say it didn't work in one piece either, but don't wanna get that fandom riled up).
when the human body morphs into unbelievable states that make no sense when it looks real its firstly super off putting because it will never be anything but obviously CG but secondly it takes you out of the moment because we know it just doesn't make sense. That's why the Mask works because it's goofy and cartoonish, going for realism just never works because we are unable to disconnect from what a regular human looks like and how the body functions.
