At least PlayStation and Xbox are finally doing different things. They've always mirrored each other too closely. I liked when every console was unique.
PlayStation is jumping in with the traditional, new generation, new experiences. Xbox is blurring the lines between generations where an Xbox Series X is closer to an "Xbox One X 2", in that it still plays just Xbox One games, but developers can choose to upgrade the performance on the newer model.
I personally, prefer option A, but I'm more of a hardcore gamer who doesn't mind paying more for the newest experiences. I can see why others see the Xbox model as more consumer friendly. If you want to play Halo Infinite, you can on your original Xbox One, but if you want to play the new Spider-Man or Horizon game, you must buy a PS5 first.
It is kind of surprising these roles aren't reversed. You would think it would Sony wanting to keep selling games to the huge PS4 install base, while Microsoft would be wanting to reset the generation and attempt to get closer to the PS360 split.
