On PS4, "Monster Hunter: World" came in first place. In second place was "Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen". In third place was "Granblue Fantasy Versus - Rising".

In the PS VR2 ranking, "Beat Saber" came in first place. In second place was "RUINSMAGUS - Ruins Magus Complete". And "Kayak VR: Mirage" came in third place.

No physical release means BG3 purchase is all digital and is likely to be somewhat higher on download charts than it would have been otherwise.

Actually, BG 3 did get a physical release in Japan, it’s why before Larian announced a limited physical release for US/EU, some were considering importing a Japanese copy.

Hopefully everyone waited as the Japanese version has some censoring of nudity and such apparently.

But yeah, BG 3 is not digital only in Japan.

Japanese version could also be had around $55 plus shipping. The special edition versions are $100 + tax.

I grabbed BG3 import plus couple other things from Play Asia and shipping was pretty cheap. I can live without nudity in a console game anyways.

If BG3 is a popular breakout in Japan, that could be huge. There are some RPG publishers, like Square Enix, who seem to think Strategy, Tactics and Turn Based aren’t popular anymore.

Didn’t know that. Since launch?
Makes the performance there even more impressive then.

Edit: Just seeing that the physical edition in Japan was released December 21st. That late in the month means digital still is somewhat skewed. Famitsu reports 26k sales for December for the Disk edition for the month of December.

All the info I found says the physical and digital versions for Japan launched the same day.

Regardless, the fact it released that late in the month and still topped the chart makes BG 3’s success in Japan all the more praise worthy.
