Resident Evil 6 - What Happened?

Mercs was good and the mechanics were good but the game is poorly designed. Sliding mechanics in narrow hallways is fucking stupid.

Next to assassin's creed 3 this was the biggest fail of the previous generation to me.

The only good one was the leon chapter where you had resident Evil vibes.
The Chris chapter was pure call of duty. The gun wielding zombies were a joke. Jake was a potential good character but the only good thing from that chapter was the nemesis inspired enemy. The end boss was ridiculous. You had to beat him like 6-7 times.

This game tried to be everything: call of duty, need for speed, 3D Tekken, ace combat..... Everything but a resident Evil game.

Played it until the graveyard. There's a point where you get swarmed with enemies while needing to get through a door. But the amount of time it takes to actually open the door meant I kept getting hit during the opening animation by this seemingly never ending stream of enemies. I rage quit and never went back.

Was trying to be Call of Duty, instead of Resident Evil. RE2 Remake was hyped and loved like crazy, whereas this game was hated (even though it is the third best-selling Capcom game of all-time.. could be all the bargain bin sales though).

Just finished it for the first time two weeks ago after multiple failed attempts over the years. By the end of Ada's campaign I found myself screaming at the screen for it to end.

I Always wondered why Capcom didn't went back to the action formula after 6 as it sold so well but now I know… There is no way there is a single soul of those who made this game and is proud of this crap.

And before anyone asks why I even played it even though I hated it this much... RE is my most favourtie series ever and 6 was, ever since it's release, the only entry I hadn't been able to finish - and I just had to finish it once.

i always felt like they were trying to make another RE4..... and failed miserably. 5 was a huge step in the wrong direction, but i still kind of enjoyed it...... i guess. and i literally laughed my way through the RE6 demo, never even tried the full game till years later and didnt make it past the first couple areas before i deleted.

they got so far away from what made 4 great, probably in an attempt to gain an even bigger audience, and ultimately they got away from what RE was good at it. glad they have corrected course. im really looking forward to another first person RE game though. maybe a bit longer game this time though.

I quite liked it to be honest.
Me too.

Finished on Ps3, Pc and Ps4.

Loved the mercenaries mode. The gameplay is so good. Sure, it's not an normal Resident Evil, it's an action TPS with Resident Evil characters.

Maybe I am just a Resident Evil fanboy, I even liked Operation Raccon City. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

However, Umbrella Corps is trash, that thing shouldn't exist.

It wasn't anywhere near as bad as it was made out. Sadly like with Sonic, COD Capcom was the victim of the hate sheep and just following what others do.
The start was really good, but in then turned into a silly action game and lost the horror and atmosphere, but still was 'decent'

Also it was hated like crazy too and still is.

I've bought this game three times across PS3, PS4 and PC. But I've only finished it once. It wasn't all bad but marrying RE controls to more action oriented gameplay doesn't work. If you want me to be able to bodyslam and roundhouse kick zombies, put in a dedicated hand to hand combat system instead of this QTE crap.

I want to do another play through on PC before RE3 next month.

It was a bad game. Totally lost that resident evil feeling. RE5 was a bad game and also a step in the wrong direction for the series, but somehow it sold crazy. That's why they tried to emulate re5 which was already a bad game and we ended up with re6.

The thing about RE6 is that those developers are still working on RE. That's why RE2R on Normal is mostly braindead - no ink ribbons, no ammo management.. just shoot to your heart's content! Even the back half of RE7 (and the Chris DLC) showed the developer's willingness to revert to shootbang bullshit.
So yeah, my point is that once they run out of RE games to remake, they're going to be in a bit of trouble trying to figure out what to do next. RE7 in first person/VR was a step in the right direction for the series, but considering the disappointing sales, I don't think it's something they want to do again. As a result, the next wholly original RE is going to be shootbang crap again. Mark my words.

According to metacritic it is the second-highest rated game after RE4 (tied with the original RE). I wouldn't say it was hated at all. Maybe by a vocal minority, but you can't do much about nostalgia-boomers that hate everything new.

It was also the biggest selling RE as well, it may still be actually.

That's a pretty insane denial of reality.

Oh, you're one of those people.

Metacritic only shows that fans of shooters prefer those type of RE games. And yes, it was hated and still is but it does not mean that those people are so vocal about it. Also lol at a term you used 'nostalgia-boomers' and generalization of their hatred. I am a very late genxer and nostalgia does not mean that much to me. If new games suck at having good gameplay in comparison to old ones then no wonder that there are people who hate them.

Regarding RE4. It was only good for its time if we talk about gameplay and everything that impacts it in comparison to other shooter games.

Regarding RE2(R). It was not good for its time if we talk about gameplay and everything that impacts it in comparison to other shooter games. Dead Space series for example.

Oh my gosh! I am one of was people who constructively look at this game. Thanks Sherlock for letting everyone knows about it. Good job.

And who are you? One of those who will accept everything as long as it has RE name slapped on it and nice looking graphics?

Also once I asked a very vocal advocate of RE2(R) about pros and cons of it on the forum. I am still waiting for his response.

I was supposed to hate it but I couldn't put it down. One minute a zombie shark is dragging Leon underwater while he stabs it, then the next minute Leon is crashing in a plane bound to a zombie infested Hong Kong.
It felt like an arcade game cabinet spin off.

I'm saying that the game was not "hated like crazy" because a vocal minority of people on the internet felt that way. Fallout 76 was hated like crazy. Anthem was hated like crazy. RE2 was a big critical and commercial success. To say otherwise is delusional babble.

No, I didn't like 5 or 6. They weren't very good games. And as someone who loved REmake 2, I can happily give you a big con - the B scenarios were really weak compared to the original and I'm pretty sure they introduced a lot of plot holes. But considering how fantastic all other elements were, it doesn't matter all that much.

Perhaps I exaggerated a little bit because I put those who dislike the game rationally together with those who do this irrationally (real haters).

Anyways I do not really have an issue with you and others who like it. I just cannot find anything good in its gameplay. The game is a weird mishmash to me.

Absolutely loved re6.
I liked the pacing and really enjoyed how it wasn't afraid to be different in many ways.
It was a fresh take on the series that I personally find as a positive.

Over the top bosses and faster paced action kept me wanting more.

I think re6 is my top 3 favorite with re4 taking 1st and re2 vanilla right behind it.

I am currently playing it on Steam/PC - and I was expecting very little after all the negative reviews... but I found myself enjoying it.
I'm not too good at action games - so I had to grind a bit to get the Level3 Skills... and I found a couple of short chapters segments that you can go back and get some health / ammo replenished before continuing... that has helped me out enormously.

I'm about to start Chris's chapter, followed by Ada's chapeter. It really doesn't feel like an RE game - but more of an action game with RE characters... and I was surprisingly okay with it. At least I didn't have to worry about the AI partner to die off (at least on normal difficulty) - I generally do not like an escort missions where I have to fend off a stupid AI characters who cannot fend themselves even if they have enough ammo and weapon.

I really enjoyed the game. Most refined gameplay in the series. I liked the global scale too, felt very grandiose.

Granted it's no RE4, but none of the other games in the series are either (not even RE2 remake).
