Sister Location |OT| Five Nights at Freddy's Five: Nights at Freddy's

This series is one of my guilty pleasures. I always enjoy watching playthroughs of the latest game since I have a really low tolerance for jump scares. I'm kinda surprised there's no GAF community thread for FNAF but it sounds like the series might not be well liked around here. Sister Location was a fun watch as usual.

Yeah, it seems like for the vast majority of gaffers, the series is just Scott "milking" a franchise and cheap jumpscares. Also, the fact that so much of the fanbase is young kids
or people drawing FNAF porn
has also pushed away people in the same way Minecraft did when it went "kid-mainstream".

Some people are just too proud to admit that they like the same thing an 8 year old does.

It's Minecraft.V2. Was a fun thing before it blew mainstream. It attracted a bunch of kids and "different" people. Now people would rather not be associated with it. Also the milking the games thing sounds pretty bad. The games were released $10> and were more like chapters than full games each release. It would have ended up better if they were named after chapters.

I honestly don't have a problem with Scott releasing sequels that fast. I think he realized his shortcomings on short development cycles with FNAF4 and thus put more time into Sister Location which really paid off. He was striking while the iron was hot, and I don't think anyone would blame him for trying to give his fanbase more and more. It's not like they were $15 each or anything.

I like how Scott didn't cash out early or just made the same game with no discernible difference. He at least experimented with the game series, creating new assets, settings, and a functioning rpg spinoff (which kinda sucked) I did not expect him to add
a 2d animated short
in Sister Location either. Also he isn't some young hotshot who just cranked a successful game but someone who has failed many times in the past and tried prove a point, whatever it may be. If I wasn't an adult who got scared by jumpscares I would have tried all his games.

I actually don't know if people wanted more since I feel after World, I think people were done with the series. And yet surprise surprise, he kept innovating and made Sister Location, a game that was still FNAF but completely different from the first game.

I'm now done with
Markiplier's play though of
Sister Location. That was really something, the VA quality and amount of variety on each night really elevates this one over the others. Although I thought it got less scary as it went on. Nothing was quite as unnerving as the Ballora part in night 2 for me

Yeah FNAF World was the only game he's done where I felt Scott was milking the franchise.

I can admire it for being a completely different take on the series. Even if it wasn't especially great.

He also updated it and gave it away for free after the negative backlash. I thought that was a cool gesture

I never played one of those games since I am scared easily and would probably die of a heart attack after 2 jumpscares, but oh boy do I love watching Markiplier and the Game Theories videos. The lore and all the secrets hidden in these games is just great. I have no problem with Scott "milking" the franchise if he innovates it. The first 4 games were pretty similar but still different enough from each other, but this one?

Oh boy.

Currently watching a video of Markiplier talking about the FNAF series with a friend and I'm rolling. Markiplier would bring up a topic that he has questions about and his friend, who has only seen bits and pieces of the installments, would make an off hand comment causing him to be mind blown at the possibilities. XD

Ah must be the one with tyler, I only got to watch a bit of that, gotta finish it. Watching it reminded me that the book might not be completely canon with the game lore.....Damnit Matt Pat hurry up and make a video already! >_>

EDIT: Also, another point to add to this amazing series is, all the great talent its produced with its fans. I love all of The Living Tombstones FNAF music videos, TryHardNinja also has some good songs.

Reviews have been slow, but here are the few I've seen so far:

Destructoid - 6/10

As someone who has stuck with the series from the start, I'm torn on what to make of Sister Location. In some ways, it represents a real step forward for the series, offering new and interesting takes on Freddy's brand of horror and some interestingly creative risks. But, it also suffers from horrendous pacing issues, a confused tone, and commits many of the same sins as previous entries in the series, made more grievous by repetition.

GameCrate - 7.5/10

Sister Location is a fantastic horror game, even if it doesn’t particularly feel like the rest of the FNAF series.

TechRaptor - 9.0/10

Genuinely terrifying, great storytelling, creepy designs - if it could find the right balance between varying mechanics, then it would have it all.

The Five Nights series either needs to start answering some of the questions its set up, or at least find some more interesting ones to ask.

This is probably the most agreeable point in the Destructoid review. I know people get their kicks out of watching Game Theory dissect these games, but ever since 4, the storyline feels less like a coherent plotline that makes sense when all the pieces fall into place, and more like something that's designed to be cryptic without any kind of payoff besides internet arguments about what year some kid's face was bitten off. I can definitely say I've completely lost all interest in the lore even though I still enjoy these games

So I need help on Night 5.
This will probably sound stupid, but in the part where Baby is guiding you through the Funtime auditorium, how do you turn left? She tells you to turn left at some point, but I have no idea how to do that.

Try to put your cursor on the left of the screen and press W or press A?

New announcement:

Hey guys! I wanted to let you all know that I'll be working on an update for the game that will add a "Custom Night" to the Extras menu.

To answer a few questions about it:

1) Yes, it will be FREE. When the update is ready, your games will automatically update to include this feature.

2) It will NOT be canon. (otherwise it would screw up the entire plotline!)

3) It will be unlocked only when you have 3-stars, so you'd better get to work!

4) Since it's not part of the game's "Story Mode", you will be able to jump right into the action from the Extras menu and restart as many times as you like.

5) It would have been awesome to have this ready for Halloween, but there's no way that will be possible. Be looking for this in December!

The custom nights in previous games simply let you customize the difficulty. It'll be interesting to see how it's implemented here.

December....so Halloween next week? ;)

I love the games and sister location is ace

im stuck on trying to get the last star :(

I think thats by
beating ennard in the secret room aka "fake" ending. Should be a snap if youve played the first games, and even if you havent, a lil bit of trial and error will teach you quick.

So Thursday then.

Major spoilers, don't click unless you've finished the Custom Night on all setups or want to see the resulting cutscenes regardless.

Wow, while Scott said Custom Night itself was non-canon, he didn't say anything about the new 'minigames' included...
Our protagonist is Purple Guy and likely William Afton, and he's still alive in the husk of his own body somehow, and Ennard has escaped into the wider world.
That's quite the bombshell.

More specifically,
It looks like that at the end he vomited up Ennard, which was the combination of all the animatrons. If you pause the video when he hurls, (use 1/2 speed playback) you can see the eyes and what not. After he gets up the eyes appear in the gutter. So, he escaped in the end anyways?
And what did I just write?

Saw marks 2 episodes on custom nights, looks crazy, don't know how he is gonna pull off Golden Freddy mode.

Also sad and weird how Scott dint add Baby in custom mode.... ._.

Wow, I'm impressed by custom night. I just started watching Markiplier's playthrough of it. I think Sister Location has my favorite animatronic designs overall, barely beating out 2's. I love the colors Scott used for SL.

Scott made 10/20 Golden Freddy mode in Custom Night beatable, and added the one last cutscene connected to it...

MASSIVE SPOILERS.

IT'S NOT OVER YET
SPRINGTRAP LIVES

Scott has been shockingly straightforward with revelations lately. He must've taken the Destructoid review's criticism (specifically continually throwing in more questions than answers) to heart.

Seems like the custom night update doubles as story DLC... assuming the cutscenes are canon. But knowing Scott, they probably are.

Also, check out the reflections in Baby's nose in this old teaser image:

Looks like Scott planned this all along. Would've been great if he could have included this the first time around.

...how in the fuck did I not see that before?

I swear I looked through all the images for small hints....

Hate me for saying this but this series is one of the series I wish would be ported over to the PS4. Yeah I know it would be hard due to the controls but I would still like it! I've always wanted to try this series but the computer is downstairs and it's for work. Also no horror games.
