Sony tops 'best brands' list again
August 4, 2005 - 11:50AM
Sony has been voted the "best brand" by US consumers for the sixth year in a row, according to an annual survey released by the polling firm Harris Interactive.
The Japanese electronics and entertainment giant has held the top spot eight times over the past 10 years in the Harris poll of corporate brands, which covered 2,339 American adults.
The results came after South Korea's Samsung outdid Sony in BusinessWeek magazine's global brands scorecard 2005 released last month. In the poll, Samsung rose from 21st place last year to 20th while Sony fell from 20th to 28th.
In the Harris Interactive poll, Dell placed second and Kraft Foods third. Coca-Cola moved down to fourth from second last year.
Ford Motors took fifth place, followed by Toyota, Honda and General Electric were tied in seventh place.
General Motors placed eighth.
Microsoft, which dropped off the list last year, and Hewlett-Packard, which was off the list for the past two years, got back into the top 10, tied in ninth.
