TERA: FoA |OT| F2P Now on Steam! Parade coming after HL3

Yes and no. Quests are still there. But they streamlined a lot of it for those who wants to speedlevel up to max. But, the main (red) quests and the optional (yellow) quests are still there for those who enjoy levelling slowly.

Hmm, interesting. What's the deal with this then:

They've actually cut a lot of content in the tutorial zone since Fate of Arun update.
Lots of quests, even story quests, are gone. Back then, It took me a whole day to finish the tutorial zone, now it's only a couple of hours or so.

Is he only talking about the tutorial area having cut quests? Also with leveling speed, is it some cash shop item that makes you go faster or just across the board? Hated in WoW when they increased the leveling speed and I would out level a zone before finishing it, and then miss out on being able to go though the other zones of similar level. Just don't really want that feeling since I also really loved the leveling in this game when I played it at launch. Got to the top and it turned into less adventuring and exploring and more waiting for parties, grinding reps, and min maxing. It's why I will never understand the focus on getting to max level asap since that is where the "real game" is in modern mmos.

Anyway, thanks for answering my questions.

I wondered about the vast area with the demon shrine and all that other vastly oversized areas. Thought they just didn't have the budget to fill it with content, or that they wanted to keep some spare room in case a new race or class mechanic needed a bit of extra love, but if that was actually once filled with content I'm kinda sad that it's now gone.

Actually scratch that, it flat out sucks. Scrapped content is never good.

Like I said, just give me a fast forward button once one character on the account has hit, let's say level 20. Lands you in the first city without money or equipment, but at level ten with all tutorial and story quests up to that point marked as finished so that completionists don't get nervous breakdowns when looking at their quest log. That's not a failing of this game in particular, just something that has bothered me with many MMO games: the initial explanation of mechanics and such is a terrible waste of time for a seasoned player, especially since (most of the time) all races and classes follow the exact same tutorial quest sequence. Which takes a bit of fun out of making a new toon, to be honest.

Hmm, interesting. What's the deal with this then:

Jesus H. Fucking Christ, calm the fuck down. You guys did not play this in 2012 and did not had to do the old fucking piece of shit annoying as fuck Seravy quest. So you are NOT allowed to bitch about the old cut content.

Now, with that out of the way, the reason they changed the initial area is that it was made for when the game was P2P. However, even then, the initial areas up until lv 20 ended up being so tedious that people stopped making alts. They noticed this and polled why. Island of Dawn as it was before made people tired by the time they were level 11 and ready to leave.

In terms of story, what was cut was that Elleon's brother was the leader in the camp that is now abandoned. They were checking for clues as to where Elleon was and so you investigated a relic and did some gathering. Too bad they removed some NPCs though, but they were only there because of those quests. Now they just tell you that Elleon is gone and to investigate the area you go to anyway.

Oh, and that last area, where there are federation soldiers on the ground and what not? You were there for at least 10 quests. The camp had around 10-15 and you were supposed to kill some npcs. It was basically to introduce you to mechanics in terms of monsters and the minions, but you get the same in the newer version.

Also with leveling speed, is it some cash shop item that makes you go faster or just across the board?

There are EXP boosts that increase the experience earned from combat only. You can get them in the auction house, through events, cash shop or having Elite subs.

Now, the reason people are outleveling the content so fast atm is that there is a 2x exp event, so people can get 4x exp on mobs. Without that event, its a lot slower.

1-30 was always "fast". 30-40 so so, 40-50 ugh, 50-60 enjoy the grind, 60-65 is decent.

Tera isn't like World of Warcraft... the bulk of quests are basically kill this and kill that, with the occasional click this and kill way more of that sprinkled in.

From what I've seen on my Gunner, they streamlined the starter zone by removing a lot of the kill grind. A quest that required you to kill 10 enemies turned into one. Individual quests to kill a bunch of stuff got dropped.

One quest that did get simplified required tranquilizing and escorting a horse... yes, Seravy. Originally you had to get the health low, tranq it, and escort it back. Now you just kill it and it respawns as a quest giver.

I played it at launch, and I enjoyed the quests. I can understand why they changed them as I know I'm not really the target demographic, but that doesn't really change what I find enjoyable. Although I guess this may have been directed at the other guy. I do like his idea of just letting people skip the area more then cutting content, but that's beside the point, and irrelevant since it's not an option.

Thank you for the rest of your answer though. The main reason why I was asking about cut quests was to see if there was anymore of that kind of thing past that first zone. Also how long does the exp event last for, and is it a common thing? Thanks again.

It was really annoying. Really. Annoying.

No, they just removed quests in IoD. The rest they reworked them, but they did not remove them. Well, you can argue that the originals were removed and replacements were put in place, but they are way better now and they have a more natural flow. The old "flow" was a mess.

EXP events aren't common. If they do is maybe a weekend and that is it. This one should last until June 2.

Chillax, my good man (or woman). I wasn't intending to bitch. Still, if I hear that the tutorial area has lost story quests in a streamlining effort, then I'm going to assume that that's bad. Sounds like it was really sorely needed though...

I see. One more reason for the fast forward button, I guess? Sounds pretty terrible.

Thanks for that. See, I'd have liked to experience that. Especially if the NPCs we're recurring characters.

There's a monster and minion tutorial? Must've missed that entirely. I just treat the minions as normal adds and AoE fodder, is there more to it than that?

Cool, thanks for the info. Will just wait till after June 2nd and see how it is then then.

I didn't really have a problem with the flow of the original game, other then a couple of cool zones that they didn't really force you to go to and people would just skip over. Like that side snow zone that was actually really cool and open, instead of just a guided path around the area.

Can anybody tell me how to customize the controller layout? I think I'm missing something... I can't drag and drop skills on the controller slots.

One of them is titled "Main 3" so I thought it's possibly the main bar, third icon, but that's not it either.

Already found out that select opens the relevant settings window, but I'm really stuck on something that's probably bloody obvious.

Also, ignore the rest, just ranting (and giggling like a five year old schoolboy...)

Bwahaha, I gotta say, I'm starting to appreciate the sheer unbridled chuzpe of the devs, the willingness to go just that one step further.

The Mystic I rolled starts out with a strange non-skirt that leaves her panties completely exposed at the back. Uh, OK, I guess, some people LIKE panties.

Then, next level: Movement. She goes into a full-tilt sprint, which drastically reduces the screenspace occupied by her upper body, emphasizing her barely clothed bum and legs. I guess that makes sense in a way. I mean, why not. More panties, and who doesn't like legs.

Then they took it one step further. The next set of armor dress covers more(!!!), but while running the (differently colored) panties are now flashing out under the skirt every other step. It's like something is blinking on the screen whenever you move around, drawing your attention. Genius!

I cannot wait to witness what panty-related shenanigans they've thought of next. :D

Responding to the quoted part, depending on your race, wait until you get a mount. Some of the animations for that are just too much.

It really is why I had to stick with a human male when I played, the most boring of choices. The only race/gender combo that pretty much keeps sensible outfits and animations...

Not only that but he spawned liked once every 3 minutes. So you used to have 5 people all gathering around and stealing the kill from you.

I was surprised when I logged on the other day and saw like 3 Seravys spawned at once, and once you kill it it turns into an npc you talk to. Probably the single biggest QoL change the game has ever seen. :p

I don't really know why you would want "sensible" outfits and animations in a fantasy game, but Tera really does make fanservice into it's own incredible art form. I guess that's why I still love it after all these years.

I remember during launch when you had to change channels until you found a Seravy which had no line. Very few people seemed to know how to change channels though, so as long as you weren't waiting in the hilariously long line in Ch.1 it was usually okay. At the time there was the Valley of Titans (PVP) server which is where I rolled and sometimes random fights would break out where a guy would just randomly flag hostile and attack everyone and the line would break up to pound him into the sand before re-forming. It was hilarious.

Different strokes. I wouldn't rail on the people that enjoy that kind of thing, I just played the combo that gave me what I wanted. I love the game after all the years (and even time not playing it) for the gameplay and world. If there was a game like it without the fanservice I'm sure I would play that instead. That was just never a drawing factor in it for me, but I will admit that the game does it gloriously in all types.

Slowly remembering some of the reasons I didn't stick with this game. The loot progression is pretty boring. Very linear upgrades that all have the same basic stats. Unique items just seem to have higher numbers than their more common counterparts. Maybe that changes later on, but up to level 37, the items have been dull as dishwater.

The combat is fun but items have always been a primary incentive for me in RPGs.

Oh, and I found out more about the NO GUNNERS lfg thing. Global says that some Gunners effect /animations eat into their FPS and lag their games to hell and back. Heard similar complaints about sorc (once, a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away)

Also, I want that Jade Dragon mount aaaaaaaaaa

Also, hahah yes, TERA is a bit embarrassing sometimes with its panty-obsession focus :x I recommended it to a girl friend of mine who was looking for a new mmo and she saw the female outfits, went WTF, got skeeved out and went to FF14 instead :x

Too bad, really. TERA's combat system is so much fun.

OMG Seravy~ I remember. Such good old tiems. And, Elleon's brother with his revealing pajama dress. LOL. And that pigling quest just outside of Lumbertown for Maon, where you have to lead back 5 piglings into the coop. And colleting lil red mushrooms where there were mobs of dwarves near the bridge. And stupid fairy quests that go back and forth between the two outposts. And the small "instance" where you have to escort a fairy through a pathway.

AND OF COURSE SORCHA. WHO COULD FORGET SORCHA.

:>

I was quite the active player in CBT, but left when the characters got wiped, I believe I got to lv. 30+ while the CBT lasted, I will probably give it another go but was wondering if I should play the EU(GameForge) servers or the NA(enmasse) servers?

Oh wow I'm really digging this. Just messing around with a few different classes before I commit but I think I'm gonna be sticking around with my slayer.

Made a female High Elf because I had to indulge in the game's desire to engulf you in fan service. Probably not the greatest race for a slayer (though not sure because I didn't look into it much) but I love the aesthetics.

You would have loved Castanic

In fairness, some of the men wear just as little.

Also, back when I played at release, the bulk of Elins I knew were played by women.

Production Points gone. -_-
I guess I can just grind expirience while that shit recharges or something -_-

I donno. Most of my friends are in [Little Sisters] and they are mostly Elins and they are all dudes. I donno man, I donno.

:x

And Castanic men also do dress like pornstars (not a fan, not a fan). I like less porny designs for both genders, tbh.

Also, NeOaK, saw the thread now :D pretty pics *____* Thanks for sharing~ I like the Aman one the best but the dude aman's torso transition to the one leg up pose is a bit awkward. They need better junior graphic designer for some of the others. A bit too college-level editing, tbh. But overall, nice eye-candies~

So I am assuming they do this to mitigate the amount of stuff you have to load in as you transition into zones and cities, but I guess I will ask anyway in case there is a way to turn it off: Is it normal for NPCs and players to be grey for a limited amount of time? Sometimes they fully load in faster than others but other times it takes a little bit longer for them to load in.

Is this on their end, server side? Or is this something hardware related?

I'm surprised that they didn't tie their own in-game achievement system to Steam achievements.

That would force everyone to migrate to Steam even if they didn't want to. I mean, what is the advantage? Using Steam to download patches instead of their system?

Does any MMO do that? I know on PS4, there's trophies in FFXIV, but there's far more "achievements" in the game itself than there are trophies.
No idea, I'm just surprised they didn't implement them when they already exist in the game.

Why would everyone need to migrate, that makes no sense.

This helped too.

I'm now seeing about 45-60 everywhere in the game aside from Velika where I'm seeing anywhere from 30 in the uncrowded spots to around 15-20 by the bank and broker. I can deal with this. That's to be expected in an area like that anyway.

Lower the the setting that says unlimited or unrestrictive to 50 or less. That helps a bit too.

Even if the game is CPU heavy, I don't think it should be struggling on my hardware. I can't believe they haven't fixed it yet. The game isn't exactly a looker, better games run at higher framerates on my PC.
It is the UI. Everything in the game is kept server side and the UI keeps polling the server.

It is highly inefficient, but it has been like this for 4 years already. I don't believe they will change.

There is something very off with the game's coding but that's another story. I am LOVING the look of the the Gunner's looks and how it's put in the story and the armour and guns, it's perfectly reasonable why Gunners are only female Castanic and High Elves, it's a mix between their cultures and their skill set, castanics being master artisans and High elves being master magicians they collaborated on a new style of fighting.

Oh dear GOD I hope that the response I got from support on my ticket is NOT a normal/traditional response people get.
Was like reading something from a game-guide. Luckily the NPC had returned when I logged in today (it was missing 7 days ago), if not I could not have continued the quest.

I just downloaded this game and got the class that uses two swords to level 5.

I sent a request to the guild.

Hope this will entertain me until the Elder Scrolls comes out on PS4.

My Tiger disapppeared from the inventory. -_-

If you got that 7 day tiger like me, then it's probably gone now.

Edit:
Man, this is why I don't really like PC MMOs. There's so much shit on the screen, this is the best i was able to do to clean up the UI.

and what is the deal with all the female characters i see in this game wearing the most skimpy clothes???
