Livery of the Viper. Love the little nod to the Oreca colors.

The white Oreca Viper is one of my favorite liveries on a car. Hated when it changed to the red.

Agreed. Though I wished that Dodge would go the full monty and be like this Camaro in the Continental Sportscar Challenge:

Just to complete the 'murrrriiiccca-ness of it all.

I take it there's no video coverage of the Test Day? I've been following along with Radio Le Mans and the live timing.

Shame about the rain; earlier Porsche managed to clock a 3:21.9, (two tenths off last year's pole time), and with any luck, there will be some more dry running in the second session. As might be expected, electrical gremlins have pretty much sidelined the GT-R LMs thus far.

The hype in this thread is real!

Where is the best place to watch this for a norweigan with 0 tv channels?
Two options:

  • The Eurosport online player (pay a one-off fee for the month of June and enjoy all their coverage).
  • The WEC app (a subscription service, offering live coverage and other benefits during the week of the race and coverage of the remaining WEC races).

The McLaren-Honda vibe is strong with the Nissan so far.

Not really. They have the two highest speed trap speeds and they have specifically stated beforehand that this test day would go according a certain plan because they have zero data, it would never be about setting times.

Though that doesn't hide the fact the gap is quite big, but it's far too early to make a real statement.

It does rather depend on what you're after; the 'tv experience' with the Eurosport player with the added benefit of being able to watch all the other sporting events on the channel or the WEC app which has a specific focus on the Le Mans 24 hours, with a choice of live feeds, timing screens, technical data etc.

They both have benefits, but the WEC app along with Radio Le Mans commentary is probably the best combination.

Radio Le Mans you can listen to on their website:

http://www.radiolemans.com/

Easily the race of the season, F1 included, for me. Can't wait.

Hard to see beyond Audi, Porsche will probably take pole but Audi doesn't have the reliability gremlins that seem to plague the 919. Toyota and Nissan don't have a hope.

I'm sure Audi will remain in Le Mans until they beat Porsche's overall number of wins. The rivalry is intense.

So the WEC sub or PPV or whatever via their website, that gives full HD and the same basic coverage as Eurosport (in terms of commentary etc.)? How does it compare in price?

The Eurosport player is slightly cheaper (under €10/$10/£10). The WEC app's Le Mans Premium Pack is €9,99 ($13.80).

I've used the official WEC PPV stream (http://www.fiawec.com/live.html) for the last year and a half here in the UK and aside from it being just a stream and live timing, I'm really happy with it.

The stream itself is great quality. I'm in the UK with non-fibre internet and it runs in HD without buffering for the whole six hours of a WEC race perfectly with the Radio Le Mans commentary included. I just hook my laptop up to my TV and watch the races with my girlfriend (who's a bigger endurance racing fan than me!).

If you're in the UK, you can watch the WEC races on Motors TV on Freeview (except for my area, for some stupid reason...) while Le Mans itself is exclusive to Eurosport. But last year I used Eurosport player - thanks to someone recommending it in this very thread I think it was - and that was also great for the whole 24 hours of the race and easy to unsubscribe afterwards.

The only thing with Eurosport is that you'll be bombarded with the same 5-6 adverts being replayed on loop hundreds of times over the course of the whole race which is pretty annoying after just one hour, let alone 24, while the WEC stream is ad-free.

Hm. That "no ads" thing is tempting. Watching bootleg streams last year, they always kind of shat me. I'd almost pay for the privilege of not having to see them.

I tried looking up how to sub to WEC on their website but honestly couldn't find where to do it. But I think I found it via that link JB posted, so it's all good. $15AUD isn't too bad for a weekend's worth of fun, even if it is $5AUD more than the Eurosport coverage. I'd like to think there's other motorsports on Eurosport I could watch as well, so... hmm...

but on the more expensive WEC stream you can pick vehicle cameras?

The no ads is really tempting.

They've had multiple on-board options (about five or six) during the first two races, although they're not labeled (just 'on-board 1', 'on-board 2', etc) and I never really bothered with them as I just had the main feed on my TV.

The other thing about the WEC stream is that they didn't offer it last year for the Le Mans 24 Hours, so I have no idea what it'll be like this year and I'm just assuming that it will operate like it does for the other WEC races I've watched on it.

That was fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

LMP-1 is hands down my favorite class of racing overall. I love seeing the innovations that manufacturers come up with when they get so much wiggle room.

Remember when F1 was the primary racing category for trickle-down tech to road cars?

If I may ask, are you attending the 24 Hours for the first time or is this the first Le Mans you're following on TV/online in general?

first time following it online. I think i will pay for the subscription on the WEC site.

I am mainly into Rally, but i recently watched the 24h of Nürnburgring and i really enjoyed it. which led me to WEC.

It's always great to welcome new fans to the world of endurance racing, especially to Le Mans. I hope you enjoy the race and just a little tip; Le Mans at dawn is something very special.

6:02 am sunrise in Le Mans today according to Google. That would put dawn around 9pm Saturday night for me. Nice!

Are Corvette and Audi doing onboard streams this year? Maybe Toyota did too last year?
