The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC |OT| More Olivier Than Ever

I'm curious if anyone else preferred the story telling of FC. I mean, I appreciate that the story gets into high gear, but things like Agate's
Mischa revelations
and Chapter 7's
exposition towers
really bugs at me. It takes my mind back to a place of standard JRPG setups that I'm not very fond of. Hell, in Chapter 6
The Professor plays on an organ
before speaking with Estelle. FC has its fair share of tropes, but I mean, Mad ham there
Regarding your Chapter 7 spoiler, SC does a poor job on suggesting its significance. It's an on-going mystery that I believe Falcom themselves hadn't properly figured out at the time they developed SC. (Cold Steel Chapter 3 spoiler)
It's a place where the higher elements -- Time, Space and Mirage -- should be active, but this wasn't introduced properly until The 3rd.

One of the foremost reasons I'm playing SC Evo now is to see whether this got "fixed".

I am loving being back in this world with these characters - just finished off the Prologue which was actually a bit of a challenge at points. Can't wait to play more!

After all my boasting and tut-tutting about Hard Mode not being as impossible as some people make it out to be, the game has decided to test my thoughts with its ultimate challenge so far...
Loewe. Did you know that his Dead Emperor Sword S-Break at full power can partywipe you in an instant?
. I caved and looked at a few tips and I learned that he's actually susceptible to debuffs. A bunch of late game bosses are immune to debuffs so I figured he of all people would be and didn't try them, This gives me some hope now, though I'll have to re-arrange my team to actually USE that hope. Also, I never got Estelle or Joshua's ultimate weapon, or those really good items at the top of the towers that I've seen people mention. Pray to Aidios for me GAF.

Finally finished!

Time to move on to Cold Steel.

Really liked how they sprang playable
Josette
all of a sudden. As if that wasn't enough, then they went, well why not ____?

Wished Kloe had more of a support role though, since she's in my party most of the time. Was rather sad that they pretty much nerfed her craft skill since a lot if not the majority of the late-stage enemies are kinda immune to it...

This is why
Loewe being susceptible all of a sudden was a surprise. Of all people, why him? Not that I'm complaining...

Finished.
Now I feel empty inside. Two good games, well up in my all-time rankings.

Some of that ending sequence reminded me of Lufia II. Only I knew it wouldn't end that sad. Epilogue could have been a little longer, especially for the rest of the party. Just some stills is sufficent, but not what I hoped to get after the epic journey. Oh well, final Joshua/Estelle-scenes were sweet, the stuff with Society/Grailsritter hinted at as well, I want moooooore.

I did find that interesting as well. Makes the fight much more bearable, at least!

If I had to think of a reason as to why he isn't immune to debuffs, I'd guess it could be for the sake of continuity? In FC, he was weak to them too (or at least during the Grancel Castle fight, I don't remember about the Martial Arts Competition one). Sure, in the final battle in SC, he's way stronger and doesn't pull any punches this time, but maybe that's just something he never learned to overcome? That's the best I can come up with.

Nice theory but its not a concrete one since Renne and Walter are susceptible in the Chapter 7 fights but not in the finale fights.

Finally finished my FC playthrough so I am now getting ready to go with SC! Yay! I can't imagine what people went though waiting to jump into this game.

I am working on getting my save imports to work correctly. Following all the advice from the OP, I can't get it to recognize the 100% FC Save correctly. It always shows the save I created myself (far short of 100%). Any advice for what I might be doing wrong?

My saves are in the Steam save folder and not the AppData one. So you might try that.

Not sure if LTTP it, but I'd figure I'd drop the news, since not everyone checks in on Translation Tuesday.

[Translation Tuesday] Trails in the Sky the 3rd – Star Door #14
SC ENDING SPOILER. No seriously, it literally continues immediately after the ending of SC.

Personally, of all the doors, this is my no.1 pick in regards to "this scene that should've been in SC."

Much thanks extends to all the amazing folks that are responsible for getting this out.

Woah, that was pretty cool. Thanks to all for the translation! And that bit at the end....
was this a 4th wall thing or is he referring to someone in-game?

Fourth wall. Only Campanella breaks the fourth wall and does so more than once in the series.

Wow, that was great watch. It's funny
seeing how much the Anguis revere their Grandmaster, even though each of them probably have their own agendas
. Or was it just lip-service? I wonder...

I just assumed
he was talking to those watching through the door.

I actually don't think it's just lip-service.

SC Spoilers in here:
I think, for the most people, the Anguis, despite all their differences, truly believe in what they're doing to a degree. Now, are there some that are completely reprehensible? Yes, absolutely. But then again, this goes back to the 'darkness' that Loewe spoke of that was required to become one of the Enforcers.

Over-under odds on (3rd and CS spoilers)
Ya-Fai being an Anguis? :p

Very cool stuff, good closure to SC actually. This could have been a post-credits scene in SC.
It was weird and interesting to see both how the Anguis relate to their master, and how the Grandmaster acknowledges and personally takes responsibility for the losses Ouroboros suffered.

I do wonder if adding voice acting to this scene in the Evo version will somehow spoil the identities of some of the Anguis. Then again, I guess there are drama CDs that could have done that.

The voice actor for the First Anguis is the same person who voiced Adol Christin and, the more realistic alternative,
Dan Russell, Tita's father
.

But yes, this Door highlights that
Weissmann was loathed by ally as much as enemy. It also has you rethink the evilness of Ouroboros as an organisation if Weissmann was just the rotten apple. I personally think they're in the same grey area as the church, Bracer Guild and Epstein Foundation.

I'm almost certain I know who's the Fifth Anguis and it's not that person. Whoever I'm suspecting is someone you've seen, though. And if it's true, we're in for a rough time in Cold Steel III.

What evil organization doesn't think that their actions, however reprehensible, is working towards the betterment of humanity as a whole?

The ends justify the means, after all.

It's more interesting when there might be a legitimate case for it, rather than a stretch at best, outright madness at worst. Obviously
Weissman's is the "stretch/outright madness" scenario, but it would be interesting if other members of Oroborus, especially the Grandmaster, had more sensible ideas in mind, even if their methods are fundamentally wrong or that end goal is of somewhat nebulous value.

Is the game's VSYNC implementation really broken under Windows 10?

I can't seem to get it to play at my monitor's refresh rate (60Hz), no matter what I try.

Using the ingame refresh lock has the game play at 125 fps, with bits and bouts of judder.
Using NVIDIA inspector has the game locked at 62 fps, with terrible judder.
Using RTSS, you can get locked, smooth 60fps, but after a few minutes it starts to exhibit terrible, terrible judder (like 16.6 alternating with 33.3 ms each frame).

It's been three months since the game was released, and all I can seem to find on this issue is a bunch of threads on Steam forums with zero dev response.

Anyone here has had more luck?

That was an interesting exchange of words.
Considering how many Anguis there are, will Falcom reach a point where all of them, including the Grandmaster, are killed?

Well, 7 games so far in the past 12 years...& they're about roughly 60% done.

Here's to another 15 years of Trails.

Is that a Windows 10 thing? I had similar problems on 7. Playing at 125 seemed to be the best option in the end, and I'm not aware of a proper solution.

dammit how is this series so effective at making me cry?
i lost it at the 1million Mira for Teresas Orphanage scene
Let me guess SC is even more effective?

I also lost it there. I pretty much lose it every time something involves
Teresa or the children
, replay or not.

On to the Finale.

Question about Ch8 subquests:
On my way to Grancel, Ouroborous started their attack. I checked the Bracer board, and 2 quests were auto-failed. Was I supposed to be able to do those? I'm not going to reload or anything, just curious.

Yeah, if you go to Grancel last then anything there auto-fails. This keeps you from a perfect BP score if you've been shooting for that, but the only thing to do in Grancel besides going around talking to people is a couple of generic monster hunt quests. There's no extended sidequest or unique endgame items like in the other towns.

More SC Ch8 spoilers:

Oh, so I would have had to go to Grancel through Rolent I guess. Huh. Oh well. Ch8 was a monster anyway, haha. Oh you want to find out more about the Aureole? Walk the entire country now please thank you. It was good though, especially the end of the chapter with the standoff north of Haken Gate with Olivert.

their focus group was just this
"So how can we get these fuckers to cry like babies"?
If that was their goal, they're so behind the finish line they can't even see the finish line anymore.

Let's see... I wept my way through SC's ending out of sheer confused feelings; I wept my way through The 3rd's reveals, ending and still weep when I listen to the audio drama; Zero had a scene that came out of nowhere that had me reach out for tissues; and Ao Evolution's opening was (and still is) enough to open the tear ducts, including a couple of scenes that weren't even intended as tearjerkers. And while I managed to keep it dry during Cold Steel, Cold Steel II compensated for that -- I still can't watch its ending without drowning into tears. Oh, and FC Evolution's ending brought me to tears, too.

So yes, you're in for a rough ride.

Beat it. Was alright. Not bad but not really good either and I had the same issues I had with FC in that it dragged like hell even in the more fast- paced sections.

Ah well, on to Cold Steel.

approaching endgame of FC
man Cassius gets around
who doesnt this man know?
If you consider who Estelle & Joshua know after being just Junior Bracers for a little while when they are on the brink of adulthood, it's really not all that surprising that someone who's lived almost 30 years longer knows even more. :p

I've been enjoying CS much, much more than TiTS, hope the same goes for you!

Hope so too. I've heard the pacing is comparable, but maybe it having a more modern look and conveniences will help. I certainly can't ignore a non-Compile Hearts turn-based console JRPG in 2016, and I imagine it's better than the last one I played (Arc Rise Fantasia).

I think I'm going to wait until we have a release date for CS2 before starting it though. Heard it's got a pretty nasty cliffhanger.

Yep, that would be the smart thing to do if you don't like cliffhangers and able to play 2 long ass jrpgs back to back.

Eh I played cold steel, FC and started SC and made it to chapter 2...bad idea :/ burnt out..

Not quite sure in which Trails thread to post this, so I'll stick to this one.

I received my copy of Sora no Kiseki SC Evolution and, well, the music is possibly the aspect to be criticising the least. The opening movie is absolutely terrible -- it's too long, leaves out important characters for no reason, and keeps repeating the same scenes over and over again -- battles have become an AT Bonus fest (I think the
Raven
battle in Chapter 1 was 90% AT bonuses) and random stuff gets changed for no reason, such as the price of Gambler Jack 2 at the casino in Ruan. The mira:medal conversion rate is still 5:1, but the price of the book is twenty times its original price. Why? It doesn't make any sense.

CZffkKcWcAA3EEG.jpg

I liked the Evolution versions of Zero and Ao, but the Sora ones are far inferior to the originals. While I look forward to The 3rd Evo, I fear the amount of AT Bonuses in that one -- and its soundtrack, although that can be fixed for ten bucks.
