The Terminal List - Prime Video, Chris Pratt (Bourne-like)

Show easely 9/10 for me. Only issue I have is that it made no sense during the .
manhunt in the woods there was 0 air support the whole time

Eh, he was pretty good other than 3-4 scenes where he sounded weird. It's not that Pratt doesn't know how to act, he does, it's that he's just not convincing sometimes because he slips up and sounds like a comedic actor, I don't know how else to explain it.

Btw finished it, it was a very good show imo but I don't know how they can do a good season 2, we'll see. The fifth episode remains my favorite, that final action scene was extremely badass.
I think I know what you mean. In some scenes Reece turns on the charm with people to get what he wants, and Pratt seems way more natural in that mode than in some of the more serious scenes. Great show and good casting, regardless.

I haven’t seen the show but I know what you mean with Chris. I like him but I feel I’ll always see him as star lord. Hard to take him serious when he’s trying to be serious. Even his serious scenes in guardian are always hit or miss. I think he’s better off with action comedies.

Just about to start the last episode, enjoyable enough. A few eye rolls here and there. Even has a Rambo homage episode. 7/10 just misses the mark but would recommend.

Damn, just seen the first episode. Powerful stuff. The bit toward the end of the episode I assumed was a dream sequence.

Agree with people who say it's too dark! 😁

Anyone watch The Gray Man on Netflix? Seems like a similar type of series, maybe a bit more action oriented. I can't even rember if ive read one of those books, maybe I'm thinking of repairman jack...

Hopefully this along with Reacher opens the floodgates to guys like Larry Correias Monster Hunter or Schloss's Laundry Files. Plenty of guy oriented action series out there that shouldn't cost a quarter billion to secure the rights nor cost 30 mill an episode.

If you have read the books then you would realize that Katie is the exact opposite of her book appearance. So far Wu is doing a decent job but I'm curious if they plan on changing the downstream relationship with her and Reece and the family backstory or letting it smolder a bit longer.

Carr has a few 'hero' characters with very specific back stories that mandate certain ethnicities but otherwise they could cast a wide range of people. But unless they change a lot of core details it would be hard to have the bad guys not be some specific types in the later books. Lots of Russian types, for example.
What's different about Katie's character in the book? I tried Googling a plot synopsis of the book, but there is a strange dearth of info on it from what I could. I finished the TV series, btw, so feel free to spoil away.

I just finished the show tonight.
i wasn't on board with some of the decisions Reece makes at the end. He really does turn into a cold-blooded murderer of people who were not directly responsible for the deaths of his team and family, and I couldn't tell if I was meant to cheer him on for it or not. Also, I really don't buy that his brother would've sold Reece and his team out. Dude was ride or die the whole show, so it really came out of nowhere, given what we'd seen of him.

Regardless, I really enjoyed the show, especially the action and military/corporate conspiracy plot and hope it gets another season.

How does this compare to Jack Ryan, Reacher, and Treadstone, the other Amazon bourne-like shows?

The Gray Man is a one off movie, although I'm sure they'd like to turn it into a franchise. Suppose to have 9 setpieces in it, dunno the length of each but that's an insane count by any action movie standard. There's one set piece they apparently spend months shooting. Wouldn't look too hard here for story...

Always a sound litmus test more often than not with the disparity between the audience and current year “critics.”

Definitely giving it a go this weekend.

Finished watching at the weekend. Was hooked from first episode and really enjoyed it. Went into totally blind as didn't know what it was about, and glad I did watch it. Hope it gets a season 2.

I recommend watching either this or The Old Man first fully until watching the other. I put on one episode of TOM while still knee-deep in TTL and got so confused already as they share a lot of similarities lol. I dunno, maybe that's simply my dumb brain but yeah... :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I didn't realize the gray man wasn't out yet, I think i saw the ad and thought it was 2 July, not 22 July.

Major discrepancy between critics reviews and user reviews.

Curious if the critics are pushing an anti-Pratt agenda or if they genuinely dislike it. I'm going to give it a shot.

Spoiler about the last scene...

They shouldn'thave done Friday Night Lights dirty like that at the end. Season 2 with surfer bro would have been great and it would have made critics seethe even more.

There is a scene where Chris Pratt is in a military bar and the barman puts Fox news on the TV and everyone in the bar is eagerly watching it to get a news update.

You know this scene made critics' heads explode. I actually laughed out loud at the audacity.

Finished it yesterday. Actually liked it quite a bit.
8/10 overall, doesn't need a season 2. Thought they where going to leave the last on the list open, but wrapped things up nicely in the end.

The series moves past his need for revenge and heads into anti-terrorism and other things. Think of this season as the origin story (kinda like Patriot Games for Jack Ryan) for a freelance terrorist hunter.

Yeah,

. Was hoping he'd drop down dead at the end, Job done and joining his wife and kids. His motivation was what made the show for me, everyone deserved what they got. Hes going to need that experimental drug now because the PTSD from this season alone would break Jack Bauer lol.

Thought it might have been a one and done, but i went in with low expectations and came out pleasantly surprised so willing to see where it goes i suppose.

I take it we are getting a season 2?

I started watching it and I like it so far, but maybe it's just me, the editing seems to be off. There are some scenes where Chris Pratt's hair is kinda messy and then in the next scene it'll be like neatly combed. And at first I thought it was a memory scene, but it wasn't. His hair seems to change drastically from scene to scene in some parts.

I wonder if these scenes were just spliced in afterwards. Anyway, not a huge deal, but just something I noticed that was odd.

I may this a go this week. For me, Reacher was okay - thought he was just a blunt asshole, with his voice tone too - kinda high for a guy that size.

Agreed. I don't normally notice editing, but this show had a bunch of times where the actors' emotions would change from cut-to-cut. Example: Madame Secretary delivers a line where she looks angry. Camera cuts to another angle and now she looks empathetic. Distracting stuff like that.

Finished watching this earlier. Now that's a goddamn show. No cliffhanger bullshit, just a solid story that has a beginning, middle, and an end. Why can't more shows be like this? Oh right, because shows these days are designed to be stretched as long as possible to keep you subbed to <insert streaming service here>.

I also really loved how the show doesn't dumb itself down for the audience. Military terms and jargon being thrown around left and right with zero explanation - you either get it or you don't, and I really appreciated that.

Wife and I finished it the other night and absolutely loved it. I loved the duo of Pratt and Riggins. Give Riggins more roles...he can't help that True Detective had a shitty script for him

He was killed on Mars. But the movie was good, John Carter was just terrible marketing.

Loved this series. Started off a bit slow but really gets good once the groundwork has been laid. This applies to most shows I know, however I wasn't expecting where this show was going to go which was a surprise.

Just finished it in a day - fucking fantastic show. I had no idea about it until I checked rotten tomatoes - apparently, critics don't like it - what's wrong with them?

This is the best show I've seen all year. It also confirmed my bias that the government doesn't give two shits about its soldiers. A lot of history there to go through but lets leave it at that.

Do yourself a favor - Go watch this show!

I loved it, much less cheese than Reacher (which I also really enjoyed).

Bloody dark, and while there were a couple of times where Pratt‘s tone seemed counterintuitive his gun control was *chefs kiss*.

I was stunned reading the reviews, like ‘did I even watch the same show?’. It’s all culture war shit though. It surprises me because I though they stayed away from partisan politics. Carr’s novel on the other hand... 😂

I just finished the first episode. Solid action and a kind of Jack Ryan show with the same kind of paper back spy thriller vibe. They spent their budget where it mattered and Chris Pratt is Chris Pratt: a charismatic action hero.

Looking forward to binging this.

You'd think the idea of a corrupt government getting taken down by a rogue soldier would appeal to MSM types today, but yeah, the novel is FAR more dismissive of modern journalists and straight up maligns the Holy Saint, at tbe time of the novel anyway, of leftist politics.

This show was great. Chris Pratt was fantastic in this, and it was refreshing to see him in such a dark, menacing role.
A very solid thriller/drama.

Although I felt the revelation of Ben being the one who gave the bad intel to set up the unit felt a bit contrived tbh, considering all they've gone through together.
Not sure if that's also how it plays out in the novel.

Oh yeah, they softened pretty much every character for the show. The book is more violent, Reese is colder, and the bad guys much less sympathetic.

And it only gets worse if they keep going. Parts of the books are straight torture porn.

Watching episode 2 now during my morning routine - the pacing is slowing down but it feels like in a good way. Also as someone who has suffered from erratic insomnia for years Pratt really pulls it off well. The not realizing your phone is ringing because after 48 hours without sleep everything kind of rings, or his jumpiness while trying to get his eyes working right again - all spot on.

My biggest gripe is it feels like Amazon or whatever production company didn't invest enough in the image quality. My TV and Apple 4K TV device are telling me this is 4K, HDR, Bt.2020 and all, but it doesn't look like it at all. Looks flat and dark all the time.
