Things you no longer need due to the invention of smart phones

Name one thing (and only one) that you no longer use or need because you own a smart phone.

These are still things that you might choose to use anyway, but it isn’t the primary way you use them any more.

Oh and millennials who were born with a silver iPhone in their mouth need not comment (j/k 😁).

I’ll go first: wallet-size photos.

What if you don’t have a mobile phone period?
I have yet to get a cell phone period, people think I’m weird but I like my freedom of not being chained to a electronic device , I see how dependent people get to smart phones.
People are always bugging me to get one but I don’t need the extra expense and really feel zero desire to get one.

Awesome dude. I’m too hooked now. It’s too late and I’m so used to it to get back. Like I’m barely even calling someone, most of it are text messages.

Keep that shit going 👍🏼

How do you keep in touch with people and services then? I'm not a popular person so I can leave my phone at home and not worry about “missing out” (I actually do this often), but I couldn't do away with it completely.

Anything that can be done on a smart phone can also be done on PC ,and there’s this thing called a telephone that’s connected with wires and stuff.:messenger_winking:
People can easily still reach me a home or work like 99% of the time but the time I do have to myself I don’t want to be bothered.
It‘s not so much being popular or not it’s managing my time the way I want.

Quarters for the pay phone outside the nearest gas station because my car broke down and I need to hire a tow truck.

What he’s not telling you is that he also has a laptop, Apple Watch, iPad, and an iPod.

A camera.

I know phones are still not comparable to a good camera, but if you aren't into photography and just want to take some casual pictures phone cameras have reached the point where they are pretty great.

Portable Music player, sure I still have my 128gb iPod, but it’s easier to load up Spotify & any stuff that’s missing on Spotify in my collection, I uploaded to the cloud on google music anyway.

Come so far from my walkman days carrying extra batteries & tapes.

I haven't worn an analog wrist watch for practical daily-use in years. My phone tells the time more accurately. But I'll still wear a nice watch occasionally, like at a party or when I'm getting "dressed up" for something. But I never look at my wrist for the time haha.

How about when you want to meet someone at a social event? Or when someone is running late and might want to contact you? What if you have an emergency when driving? This not having a cellphone thing is just being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.

Now, what I don't need now that I have a cellphone?

Maps (with added directions)
Calling a taxi
Calendar
Stopwatch
Address book
Going to the bank
Physical work benefit vouchers.
Music Player
A portable console (I only play very simple games on the go, so ymmv)
Yellow Pages
A cd collection
Porn tapes
Books
A watch
A camera
A videocamera
A VCR or DVD player
A landline
A Cable box
An X Language to Y language dictionary.
A regular dictionary
News channels
A video rental store
Restaurant recommendations

The smartphone really has revolutionised how people live their lives.

For me it’s maps and translation software.

I remember when I got my first cell phone. I set it to vibrate, and some time after when I was driving, it went off and I thought I had a swarm of bugs in my pants, which caused me to veer off the road past oncoming traffic.
