I really hope this bombs spectacularly to drive the message home to Nintendo.

The game sold 300K total on Wii U worldwide, I doubt a game this niche is going to do any numbers that really "drive the message home to nintendo" about censoring games. The reality is Western culture is more accepting towards violence than sex than vice versa like most of the world and changes were made accordingly. If you feel this raw about it there's nothing stopping anyone here from learning Japanese and playing stuff the way you feel it's meant to be played/watched, plenty of weebs have done it already.

Yeah, except when Nintendo won't let you.

Yeah, except when Nintendo won't let you.
Personally I think your over blowing the censorship aspect of this game, I agree censorship is shitty but it’s mostly cosmetic and really has no bearing in gameplay as far as I can tell.
This is probably a title I do pick up at some point but like I do for most my games will only buy it if the price drops after some time.

Is wronger even a word?
Have you played the Switch version yet? Yeah I didn’t think so .
What you linked is your own opinion piece, that doesn’t mean it’s true.

Again I think your over blowing the censorship aspect of this game unless you played it and obviously you haven’t , either way I don’t think this is the thread to link opinion pieces but talk about the actual game censored or not.
You have your own thread for that.

You have your own thread for that.

I did play it (both versions) and he’s right. Its some of the bigger censorship I’ve seen. There’s of course the little stuff, but especially the chapter 2 censorship is narrativly impactful. Like a really misguided 90’s mislocalization.

You keep alternating between 'you're overblowing it', which I proved you wrong, and 'that's just your opinion'.

This is the crassest case of censorship in a long time, and is factually so, the evidence is there.

If you're fine with it, that's your prerogative, but lots of people don't like censorship.

How? Game comes out next week.
Can you explain in detail how exactly chapter 2 censorship is narratively impactful?

Mista Mista sorry bro for taking your thread down the gutter. Didn’t mean too and will leave it at that.

He may be referring to the WiiU version, which is where the censorship argument is coming from.

Me personally I still look at this as nothing more than cultural differences, the same way Western games are censored for dismemberment, extreme gore, etc in Japan.

Changing writing is not 'cultural differences'. I swear you pro-censorship people get worse with time :/ Imagine if books got rewritten before release in another country ...

Bro, I'm not pro censorship. I just see that this is the same shit that's been happening with Japanese games for well over 30+ years, it also doesn't help there's been enough sex content scandals involving video games that every company has tried to avoid since R* was pushing everyone's buttons in the early 2000s, fuck, they don't even do anything risque anymore.

The end result is time and time again that Western culture showing that BOOBIES ARE BAD! And in addition, we have to be REALLY honest about this, most of Nintendo's audience are gamers that are kids and teenagers, not adults. If it weren't for the fact that Bayonetta 2 was already in development before Sega cancelled it, I doubt it would've been released in the fashion it was and I bet Bayo 3 is going to toned down sexually.

Just stop buying their products, they aren't even meant for adults.

He did say "bomb spectacularly", so maybe 30K worldwide would send a message? A larger install base with a fraction of the sales would certainly say something.

Also, you do realize even the Japanese are getting fucked over right? If they do purchase the Encore version, they'll get to experience the abridged version, just with Japanese text.

Since when have people complained about censorship ruining gameplay? A lot of the criticism stems from cosmetic changes.

Either way, censorship is just bad in general.

Geezus fucking Christ, Mista just posts a thread reminding people TMS is coming out and looks fun and it's almost instantly derailed into this shit. Kind of wish a mod would remove the posts into a separate thread, like getting slightly off-topic is one thing but barely anyone is talking about the game except for this SINGLE issue.

Also, you got to love how the focus is always on the US censoring sexiness but rarely is it brought up when Japan censors violence in their games. Japan - "Well, we had to censor The Last of Us, Evil Within, Until Dawn, and Grand Theft Auto V? I mean, what were we supposed to do, let M-rated content remain in a M-rated game? What sense does that make?" I'm just saying, if one is going to be so holy about anti-censorship, maybe make sure to actually recognize all of it? And spare me the "I didn't know about it because I don't live there!" I think we've had the Internet long enough to know how Google fucking works, this shit can be found out in less than a minute.

Also I no longer blindly listen to the anti-censorship people on which games I should or shouldn't buy not because of gameplay quality but to "send a message". After all, they told me to not buy the new PS4 Senran Kagura game because the "sexy minigame" was taken off it but buy the Switch game that basically is the sexy minigame. Well, I went and bought both. And despite me paying full price for the PS4 game and only $10 for the Switch game, the PS4 game was far more bang for my buck as it still had the decent brawler action the series is known for and still a good amount of sexy moments, just you know not that specific minigame. Well, the Switch minigame, I played for an hour, and realized I was bored out of my fucking mind. Oh joy, I paid $10 to see like two Senran Kagura girls do sexy shit; I could have gone online and basically gotten the same thing for free if you know what I mean. The PS4 game was at least, you know, a proper video game.

1.) Censorship is part of this game. It deserves to be mentioned.

2.) It's almost like most of us don't live in japan, thus their Censorship doesn't matter. On top of that, censorship of violence is infinitely more justifiable than that of sexy content.

-but at a certain point, enough is enough. We're 30 posts in and virtually all of them are about this shit when that wasn't what this thread was meant to be focused on if I'm reading Mista's post right. Start your own thread if you're this overly passionate about it, but you were just begging for people to get triggered with this whole "hope the game bombs" shit. Granted, I wish everyone had just responded with the "that's bait" gif to you, but still it irks me this is what the thread became. Everything in Mista's post is primarily focused on gameplay and music. I've not heard anyone say that either of those were altered so can we fucking focus on that?

-Pretty sure if it's such an "issue", then it should matter no matter who's doing it. Also, that last bit just devalues your entire argument. If the argument is "art shouldn't be censored", that includes everything including violence but your post completely destroys you being able to use that anymore. Well done.

I made one comment, then someone couldn't stfu and kept demanding replies. Not my fault that the thread is full of that back-and-forth.

And don't turn the last argument around. I'm against all censorship, but it deserves to be said that censorship of violence (something bad) makes infinitely more sense than censorship of sexy designs (something good). Neither should happen, though

I also hate the censorship, I truly do but if you expect me to skip the game I was waiting for Switch port for long time then you are out of your mind.

Boycotting won’t do shit, only thing it does, shows Atlus and Nintendo that people don’t have no interest in this type of game and as result they stop making these games and don’t want to see that.

1.) Buying, however, definitely shows you're fine with censorship.

2.) I just bought Valkyria Chronicles 4. I'll be buying Xenoblade DE and Trials of Mana. I'll let Nintendo know exactly why I don't buy this one.

I’m hoping TMS is just weird and only case because game like Xenoblade 2 didn’t got censored.

I would say if you feel that way do what you will, I personally like TMS too much to skip it. Most NeoGAF knows how long I was waiting for the Switch port for this game.

XC2 was censored. Or...badly translated in some parts.

Yeah, so mostly dialogue changes rather than visuals changes, this was also true with Drakengard 3, in english they made Zero sound more angry while in Japanese version she much more calm.
Yup it was an odd translation (but remember they are localizers not translators!!! :messenger_poop::messenger_poop::messenger_poop:) and they did this many times over. Even then I still enjoyed the character interactions even when I knew they weren't saying what I was reading. (limited JPN understanding is limited but even then I knew)

The changes in Xenoblade 2 really are super minor, though. I'd say the Poppi QtPi-Zeke dog scene is the worst change. The rest is ok or even better. For example, I remember the scene where Tora talks about his grandpa's books. It was totally obvious that he's talking about porn magazines, without spelling it out. That's better than a plain 'ecchina hon', which is just blunt.

Not that I think it's good to make changes to creative work, but these are instances that I as a big fan can say didn't make it worse.

Whereas the censorship in TMS is so crass it's unforgivable. The censorship in Xenoblade X was superbad, too, but it was mostly bad for female gamers who had limited avatar options. Lack of boob slider didn't impact my game. Still, very bad. But far from TMS.

Nope the worst change was the "blushy crushy" part. Tora was telling Homura to come on to Rex-Rex (also stupid as he called Rex aniki aka big bro) as her older sister and they fucked that all up in the localization. Also the mindrape (literal) of
Homura

Lol, i loved 'blushy-crushy'. Saying 'moe' made no sense since that's a Japanese word, but Xenoblade 2's world isn't Japanese, so finding another expression was an ok choice.

What mindrape scene? You mean when Jin had her captured at the foot of the world tree? What was changed?

You are trolling right? Who do you think made this game? Tora's entire character is that of a otaku so what he was telling Homura to say made perfect sense and was in character. What do you even think Hana is?

SMT is offensive to most of the United States as well. Go to the average American and talk to them about how God is a dick and how you want to kill him and create a demonic world of chaos and they will start shrieking Bible verses at you.

As you said, these games are niche - they have a small niche market that is very loyal. TMS was never going to appeal to a mass market because most Americans wouldn't enjoy a game based around Japanese entertainment idols. So the question is what does the niche want? With how the Wii U version bombed versus similar weeb-niche titles, it clearly wasn't censorship.

You realize people can be otaku without being Japanese, right? Tora is a weeb, but in world where weeb isn't a thing. So 'moe' doesn't exist either. That's just like changing the Japanese names. Xenoblade 2 doesn't take place in a Japanese society, therefore Japanese names would have made it worse.
