Trying to quit 4chan

So for the past year I've started going on 4chan. Pretty much everyday, multiple times. It's a cesspool with the worst the internet has to offer and I want to quit it. I deleted it from my bookmarks tab and trying to focus on other things so I won't think about going back there. Anyone else tried quitting a website they were addicted to before?

you can add it to a blacklist, there are lots of ways to do it. soon enough your brain just gets over it and new habits are formed.

or you can just post something and get permabanned lmao.

I would say you should block the site, but if you're that addicted, you'll just unblock it as needed. I'm not sure how one ends up so addicted to a website though to where just not going to it isn't working.

I don't discourage blocking sites if it comes to that, but imo, simply becoming more productive is a much easier solution.
When you're busy just don't have any free time or attention left to spend on sites like 4chan, and you don't have to consciously think about it.

k' this is a dire intervention but if you are serious and have bad muscle-memory patterns, you can edit your hostfile to redirect to, like, google or literally nowhere.

- Run `notepad` or some other text editor as Adminstrator (<if not running as Admin, won't let you edit the host file)
- Edit `C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts` (it's just a text file).
- Add a line to redirect 4chan lookups to like, anywhere else. Can send to an invalid address, your localhost (127.0.0.1) or google's IP or w/e.

Seeing that error message or unexpected site pop up should be enough to break your mental patterns until you build the self control to just, like, not go to that site anymore :messenger_heart:

Editing the host file to remove the redirection is just annoying enough that you're unlikely to do it out of habit.

Years ago I started going to the Adult GIF board for quick and easy whack off material, and I still go once in a while out of habit. But sweet jesus what a psychotic shitshow that board became.

To this day I've never bothered to figure out how to even post a comment.

There's more assholes on Neogaf than on 4chan. Hell, people can insult you in the vilest way on this forum just for an opinion about a game and nothing will come of it from a report. At least on 4chan there's no facade of civility, it's all there out in the open, masks off, so you can know what people truly feel and think. Just because you visit that site and engage with it doesn't mean you endorse everything there, you get to pick and choose that for yourself like an adult as you would anywhere else.

Someone on here called me a dumb asshole a few weeks back. I still cry about it. The therapy helps but I won’t lie, I don’t feel safe anymore

Gay porn is where it's at.
i've only visited that site twice in the last year
in both times, the amount of times i was called a "f*g" and a N**er" is, quite frankly, impressive.
its like in Wolf of Wall street movie, but instead of "fuck" every 5 minutes, it's ethnic slurs every 5 seconds

Block the domain in your router? yeah you can just remove it but having to manually remove it whenever you want to visit might be enough to get you to think fuck it I can’t be bothered going away into settings I’ll leave it.

blocking at router level means all your devices will not have access but you could still disable WiFi on your phone and access it with mobile data.

You could use an extension like uBlock to block the domain but it’ll just work on that device. You’d need to install uBlock on as many devices as you can.

For me, 4chan has been kind of boring for a long time it used to be the most fun website on the internet, but it's not really felt like it used to feel to me since 2011, which is a long time ago.

I try not to visit that site anymore unless its /g/ or /vr/. You can just forget about /b/ and /pol/, quality of posts are almost non existent. If you try to filter your way out of the garbage using keywords, you will end up filtering out 70, 80 percent of the posts.

All the #chans seem suspicious. I feel like the Feds are monitoring the regulars on those boards.

It's very common on there. I have seen Anons posting fed business cards after being visited by them. Doesn't take much either. I remember one anon was using the old "in minecraft" line when making his threats and got busted for it, then another one involved an anon basically stating in >greentext , how "he had enough" and to "not visit xyz location on x date", playing with fire like that its no surprise why they get a knock on the door.

I try to find other forums now(like this one) and try to stay away from the usual, 4chan/reddit. I think this is the best method, try to find a better community, there's plenty of forums out there which are just as lively. I found one for keyboards the other day, /mkg/ eat your heart out :)
