I don't know nearly enough to make any decisive call on this, but it sounds like she still lacks credentials. Is it typical to go from not a producer to producing a huge game like Asscreed? I know in other walks of life it wouldn't happen that way with that whole concern that experience is useful and people need to walk before they run, etc.
If she had a lead programmer title of any kind, it's not that big a stretch to make the jump over to production, though usually it's a jump to a position one below full producer like associate producer first.

She lacks the credentials? It's clear you haven't seen the "credentials" of OTHER producers in this industry. Most have never worked in any way shape or form in the gaming field before getting their producer title, or as producers or even associate producers for anything else in fact. You really have no idea, from game designers to producers to "creative directors", the industry lacks a lot of credentials all around due to lack of workforce.

This might be because I don't know too many production types outside California, but that's definitely NOT the case with most of the producers I know and have worked with.

In a buisness that's run almost exclusively by men, being a woman who's extremely attractive and well spoken, on top of being educated and intelligent will get you further than you would have otherwise. It IS Ubisoft though, so many of their games are either licensed or already established franchises. They started her off on a new IP rather then trusting her with one of their many gold mines, so it's not like she went straight from bottom to top. I think she did fairly well for her first venture into game production, but it seems she still has plenty to learn.

Yes it's different with California. When big companies double the number of titles they have in production in like two years, and they're not in California or the UK, it becomes difficult to find a good producer for every projects.

Umm ... who said that was her first title as a producer?

She worked at EA as a producer, and was the producer for Sims Online. That happens to be one of the most popular online titles of all time.

Read her bio http://www.jade-raymond.com/bio.php ... she's plenty qualified. If anything, she's more qualified than a vast majority of game producers.

While I agree people mocking her qualifications are ignorant, Sims Online was awful.

Ok, so the comic was in poor taste, and although it wasn't that good, it summed up the feeling among many people in the gaming world, that Jade Raymonds' image was overused in the hyping of Assassin's Creed, which I'm afraid is more of an indication of the industries immaturity when it comes to the usage of women as "marketing tools" than the comic has ever done.

Sorry, but the people defending Ubi and Jade are misguided, Ubi are guilty of bringing the image of women in the gaming industry back down to that of "men magnets" and Jade is guilty of letting it happen, even the promo shots, like the one in this thread showing Jade as the focal point of a "team" shows how bad it has got, sorry, but I have no sympathy for either, the comic and other imagery are a parody of this, and is such, pretty safe, legally speaking.
indeed. not surprised to see that this has already been posted numerous times...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hustler_Magazine_v._Falwell

but for those not lazy enough to read, here's a quote...

To be sure, in other areas of the law, the specific intent to inflict emotional harm enjoys no protection. But with respect to speech concerning public figures, penalizing the intent to inflict emotional harm, without also requiring that the speech that inflicts that harm to be false, would subject political cartoonists and other satirists to large damage awards.

Clearly, Falwell was a public figure for purposes of First Amendment law. Because the district court found in favor of Flynt on the libel charge, there was no dispute that the parody could not be understood as describing actual facts about Falwell or events in which he participated.

Ubisoft made Jade a public figure... basically, unless this would be misunderstood as factual (which it can't, by any standard) Ubisoft haven't got a leg to stand on. if it had shown the actual felating directly, rather than in the fashion you'd see in an R rated sex comedy, it might have been labelled as obscene and therefore not 'speech' but the comic doesn't show that.

Hahahaha, no fucking way dude. The Sims Online was fucking disaster and nowhere near as popular as the actual Sims games, and certianly not even the same league as games considered "most popular online titles of all time". Will Wright has even apologized for the quality of the game, that's how big of a mess it was.

Wait a minute. 50% Canadian? Canadian is a nationality, not a race. We're one of the most racially diverse countries around. I'm guessing European descent by looking at her, but "Canadian" in no way implies that.

Eurasian is the stupidest term ever.
I'm half Asian and half white but I NEVER call myself Eurasian.
It's basically saying "ooooh, I'm so exotic".
Fuck off.

. She is currently playing Loco Roco on her PSP

So you seem to like Sony products, yet AC on the PS3 came out pretty crappy.

She is currently the producer of the highly anticipated title Assassins Creed, one of the most buzzed-about titles of 2007.

It wasn't buzzed about because of how good the game was.

Jade's first job was programming games at Sony.

What Games? Buzz? A Cell phone game? What?

she founded the first Research and Development group within Sony Online.

Sony fails for not having that in the first place.

er team was responsible for leveraging Sony IP across multiple platforms and ultimately building Sony Online's most trafficked offerings...

OMG WHAT IS IT!

the entire suite of Jeopardy games played by over 3,000 simultaneous users on a daily basis.

Yeah, I take back everything Ive said. Jeopardy is such an AAA title, man on man. Sigh me up for the 'Jade Empire' I want these blowjobs now.

Sims Online

IT DOESNT STOP WITH THE AAA TITLES! OH GOD JADE, I WILL BUY YOUR GAME!

Are people trying to argue that since Jade Raymond isn't the best producer in the world, it's completely fine to make a comic showing her sucking multiple dicks?

This sexist shit has got to stop - even if she was idolized by many gamers and even games journalists, that doesn't mean that her person should be slandered in this manner. Now let's see one of the "so awesome" male producers being put into this position - would everyone still laugh? I wouldn't even then.

The comic really wasn't even funny. I bet the people who loved this enjoy VGCatz, as they fall pretty much in the same category.

It's completely fine to make a comic showing her sucking multiple dicks regardless of how good she is at producing games

I agree, the sexism needs to stop. Let's balance things out with an equally unfunny jaffe comic

Haha, that's pretty good. The original pic really bothers me though. It's really unfair to the devs the way Jade is front and center while everyone else is a couple yards behind her. It just looks like there's a lot of animosity towards her judging by their faces. The few people in the picture trying to pretend they're happy are failing miserably, and the rest aren't trying at all. Except for the black guy. He looks very smug. This tells me he is likely boning Jade.

Jade being put at the front of the game shunned me from it.

Exploiting their attractive producer ftl.

That office picture is the ultimate slap in the face to those guys. They might as well be shrubs or desk equipment.

It's true. I'm guessing they mean some mix of unknown percentage of the early immigrants to Canada (Irish/Scottish/English and French if you're in the east or Ukrainian if you're in the West).

This, I guess, is why so many have struggled and died for Free Speech all over the world.

Shouldn't it read: "But with respect to speech concerning public figures, penalizing the intent to inflict emotional harm, while also requiring that the speech that inflicts that harm to be false, would subject political cartoonists and other satirists to large damage awards."

I'm confused.

EDIT: Oh i see, it penalizes those who use harmful words even if they're truthful. Fuck, I'm dyslexic.

Quite true.

This comic strip is unforgivable. It's blatantly not funny and a waste of our time that could be spent looking at funnier things, like pictures of ducks. As for Jade Raymond, lol, just let her do her job and leave her alone. There's no point in insulting her or exclaiming that she's beautiful, just judge her based on her game. In my opinion, it was worth my 60 bucks.

I am trying to figure out how big a role her being an attractive woman was in her getting in the spot light initially. The comic is a different issue - I have photoshopped gay porn with Jack Thompson on my site, though, if you'd like to take a look. It's not as current or hot as fake Raymond porn, but I find it amusing.
