What are your thoughts on AI?

It seems exciting and new but at the same time I still oppose it. First off there is AI automation. I have spent several years studying for a software engineering job and it would really be a bummer if once I graduate it turns out my degree is useless because AI are being used to code software. Not just that but it's going to target many fields. It's already making artists obsolete. And it's going to be much harder for the average person to find jobs because of it which could usher in a universal basic income communism type system where humans become a slave class and AI do all the jobs and maintain society.

Not just that but there's the likely possibility of a singularity point where they will become too intelligent and powerful to be controlled and start ruling over humans. Not worth it at all.

Let it loose. It's on a leash so I won't bother.

It'll be a new Industrial Revolution for better and worse. As manual labor jobs were replaced by machines, a new class of jobs was created for people to work and repair those machines.

AI will replace jobs but there will be a need for humans to work that AI.

And it's likely that entirely new industries that don't exist today will arise from the newfound efficiencies AI brings.

I think this may already be the case, it just doesn't look like Terminator 2 with walking destructive robots, so we don't recognize it. I'm talking about the complex system of algorithms which influence the stock market, vast data collection, targeted advertising, content offerings, etc.

I recall people who work for Google and Facebook referring to their algorithms as "black boxes" that are too complex for us to understand, but it doesn't matter because they achieve the desired end goals (i.e. more profit).

Useful in the right circumstances. Do not give it control over weapons systems.

If we start to use it in any capacity it will slowly become more and more prominent as people become more comfortable and eventually slippery slope it's way into finally being given control over weapon systems. And even worse than that, it will have control over our laws which are enforced by AI robots.

That's the thing. The only job a human will be able to have is maintanence of AI and only a select few will be needed for this purpose.

I'm excited about AI and terrified at the same time.

Lets go through the eye of the storm, nothing is going to stop it.

4th Industrial revolution here we come.

It's going to absolutely devastate the global economy. Most white-collar jobs are already bullshit jobs, and AI is going to automate them into obsolescence with a quickness.
Automatisation will surely cut a lot of office workers, thst's for sure.

Will some other jobs be created after the revolution? Sure. But not for everyone.

Coding is safe for now as we are still some time from fully automative code writing algorithms. At least i think so, correct me if i'm wrong.

And of that happens, then... I don't know. But a lot of people will end without a job 🤷🏻‍♂️

i am so confused on how this will affect the economy.

Every menial job humans have been doing for decades is gonna be replaced with robots. every single one. How the fuck are people supposed to make money when every job that they could occupy is taken up by robots? does everyone just need to learn how to program? what if robots become the programmers? are we all fucked to live in poverty??????

This is why critique of capitalism was born from the industrial revolution. The ownership class and the workers. If 1 person owns the AI, and the AI can replace millions of people, you get the idea of why revolution would follow. Similar phenomenon with machines being owned by 1 person in the 1800s. Read up on the industrial revolution and civil unrest. Decent predictor of the future.
1) Immense consolidation of wealth among a very small amount of people.
2) Widespread poverty and declining wages.
3) Revolution, strikes, protests, new political ideologies forming.
4) Government reforms.

Imagine it being wayyyyyyyyyyyyy worse. But yes, you're right.
all i wanted was to just live out the rest of my days as a software developer in a condo.... now i'm gonna be caught in the middle of an artificial intelligence revolution
are you sure that's really an Elon Musk AI? seems more like it's trained on the self aggrandizing shit that andrew tate says

Until the AI generators take the restrictions down and allow me to generate all the AI porn of my dreams then I'm not interested in this hamstrung censored bland bullshit.

I can see the good and bad in it. Not much different than factory jobs becoming automated, the machines do a better job, the maintenance cost is cheaper than paying people to do the job and not all jobs can be replaced, can't call AI to fix my plumbing. My career could be in trouble (Systems Admin/Engineer) as I work on automating a lot of our systems. But as long as I'm needed to maintain the automation, I have a job. However, I don't see the US switching to a fixed income state where they just give money to people. If automation ever reaches that point, I'm sure the US would rather put limitations on AI development vs give everyone over the age of 18 a $7,000 a month allowance to keep the economy moving.

Information technology and robotics were always about making people's jobs obsolete. Economics is a different problem. In our economics, it is considered a serious problem if there is enough production to satisfy everyone and everyone has lots of leisure time to do whatever they want.

I think industries will appear that not many can conceive of at this point. Like would an early 1900s coal miner have predicted being an "influencer" would be a profession 100 years from his time? We're the coal miners in this analogy.

So much FUD around AI, and maybe rightly so considering the Industrial Revolution wasn't exactly a 100% Net Positive for the world. But us humans are great adapters. We'll sort it out somehow.

We still have coal miners, I wish we could bury all influencers.
Yeah, bury them in donations!

I don't know what you heard about me /
But Delphine can get some dollars outta me /
Bathwater as far as you can see /
Cuz I'm a mother----ing S.I.M.P

no coal miner from the 1900s would have the looks or riches to become an influencer and most of them wouldnt have lived long enough to even see that or even a celebrity

The AI will "adapt" before us and just enslave us or kill us off.

Existentially it can be quite scary but also humbling
When I think about it they need to create many types of AI’s to do different things that humans can do but only that thing for each AI. But on some levels I worry we could create something that would be able to do them all outsmart us and see us a irrelevant then able to create itself a body.

But then. I also think sex robots.

I think it's already happening on some level. It just doesn't look like robots shooting guns at us and crushing skulls underfoot like in T2
Just give us lots of social media and create a really addictive app/games. Enslave us that way, we won’t know we are so no need for a revolution sort of like Wall-e and ex-machina
