wSFAe95.jpg

Hollywood and the media most commonly portray mistresses as heartless home wreckers but, more often than not, these women don’t embody the sexed-up stereotype. Now, one of the world’s most famous mistresses is on a mission to rescue others from the despair of their affairs and portray the hidden life of the often-vilified woman in Discovery Life Channel’s 'The Mistress'. Sarah J. Symonds, author and self-proclaimed former mistress of Chef Gordon Ramsay and Lord Jeffrey Archer, dishes out tough love to mistresses ready to finally escape the trap of extramarital affairs. Each half-hour episode documents Symonds’ intervention with one mistress, drawing from her own personal experiences to prove that there’s rarely a silver lining when you’re the other woman. Helping women fully come to terms with the truth beneath the lies, the empty promises, and the sneaking around, 'The Mistress' gives viewers a unique glimpse into the downward spiral of secret lovers.

Animation Domination High-Def - FXX

Hello strange & dear cyber-friend,

Confused about what you’re looking at? Curious about who’s behind all of this? You remind me of me before I saw the truth… before cartoons opened my eyes… before they took over my mind.

We’ll start with the basics:

Animation Domination High-Def is a brand, just like you. We briefly made cartoons that aired on Fox before moving the series and shorts to a digital hub in 2014, and starting in 2015, we'll be making a new home at FXX. The series bringing new episodes to FXX include 'Lucas Bros. Moving Co.' and 'Stone Quackers'.

In the physical realm, we are a group of artists, animators, producers, writers - about 160 strong, located in Hollywood, California. We make all our cartoons here in the USA. We are very proud of this.

This Is Not Happening - Comedy Central

Hosted by Ari Shaffir, This Is Not Happening is a raucous series featuring long-form storytelling from stand-up comedians. From Moshe Kasher’s run-in with an anti-Semite at an Israeli comedy club to Steve Rannazzisi breaking up a fight between Bobby Lee and Ari Shaffir over Natasha Leggero, these comedians’ incredible stories prove that there is nothing as crazy as the truth.

Sons of Liberty - History

'Sons of Liberty' is a three-night, six-hour event, following a defiant and radical group of young men – Sam Adams, John Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and Dr. Joseph Warren – as they band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation.

Night Will Fall - HBO

When British, Soviet and American forces liberated Nazi concentration camps in 1945, army and newsreel cameramen recorded the terrible discoveries they made. Later, Sidney Bernstein of the British government’s Ministry of Information and his team, including supervising director Alfred Hitchcock, drew on this footage, shot at Bergen-Belsen, Dachau and Auschwitz, to create a harrowing film titled “German Concentration Camps Factual Survey.”

Despite the 1945 documentary’s artistic pedigree, the initial support it received, and the use of some of the most riveting concentration-camp footage ever shot, Bernstein’s project has not been widely seen. 'Night Will Fall' tells the incredible story behind the film, featuring interviews with concentration-camp survivors, several of whom identify younger versions of themselves in the footage, as well as archival interviews with Bernstein (who later founded Granada Television), Hitchcock and director Billy Wilder.

Thread looks good. Thanks for putting it together. I'm planning on doing the Archer (up in the next few days), The Americans, and Justified threads. I might do one for Togetherness, as well, since I doubt anyone else will.

Well done with the thread!

Damn, even Dreamworks Animation's live-action stuff features the quintessential Dreamworks face. So punchable.

In the hidden gems category, The Emperor of All Maladies is a really phenomenal book and I have the utmost faith that Ken Burns' adaptation of it will be excellent. The book is a history of the discovery of Cancer, early attempts to treat it, the radical mastectomy, the discovery of chemo- and radio- therapies, all the way to the present day. I'll add that it's also pretty bleak; there's a long and detailed discussion about how survival statistics are kind of bogus and a lot of the "victories" we've won have been somewhat illusory. It's written by a cancer doctor who is otherwise not a writer, and it won a pulitzer. If you've ever had a friend say "Don't you know Cancer can be beaten by <taking your fillings out / drinking more orange juice>" or "Hey, I bet they've found a cure for cancer they just don't want to share it with everyone" or even a friend who believes there will be a[/i] cure for cancer at some point, or anything like that, steer them towards this book. Very much looking forward to this series.

I will be checking a lot of those new shows. I'm truly excited about only two though - iZombie and most of all Bosch. Absolutely loved the pilot for Bosch and the books are great. I want to do OT for it, unless anyone objects?

I will also be checking out lots and lots of new shows...at the very least I will watch couple eps of Agent Carter, 12 Monkeys, Backstrom, Fortitude, The Odd Couple, Better Caul Saul, The Odd Couple and The Messengers. Don't feel strongly one way or another about either of them at the moment though, so no idea how many of those will join my permanent viewing scheudle.

I've seen about a million ads for Agent Carter. I'm still not sure if I will watch though... the first Captain America was boring. I might check it out after it's complete and I hear it stands on it's own as a miniseries and there won't be a full show.

State of Affairs has been ok so far so I'll keep watching it. The show with the guy from the office looks interesting enough to tune in for a couple episodes. That's pretty much it for me for the new shows.

Really looking forward to Broad City, Girls, and Archer this month. But I'm mostly excited for Danger 5. Oh my god.

Strange Empire (CBC) is missing from the schedule. It returns on Jan 12, btw.

19-2 a week after, hmm ... wonder if there's enough interest for a thread. Maybe I'll see if anyone rips the big tracking shot in the premiere onto youtube. Everyone took down the French version one that someone posted about a year or so ago sadly.

I was convinced Amazon sent out a card a couple weeks ago saying Bosch started this month, but there is nothing online suggesting a date. I enjoyed the pilot, looking forward to it.

When does Whose Line start? It's in the thread list as this Friday but my PVR and schedule doesn't have new episodes for the next two weeks at least. :(

Not much new that I'll be adding other than Agent Carter. Otherwise, I'll watch Galavant and Dovekeepers. Maybe I'll try The Slap? It kind of sounds like it could be fun.
