I think there was a stat back in the day that Sony lost more money on PS3 than all the profits gained from the PS1-PS2 era combined. They literally lost $100-200 per device at launch to get blu ray to win the format war. Credit to Sony's first party that truly became alive and became what they are known to be today that gen. If Sony's first party did not fully utilize the power of the Cell (lol, because no other dev could really it was hard), I doubt PS3 would have the recovery it did. I'd say Uncharted 2 was the pivot point, very important game for them.
