Why doesn't Google use AI to filter out word-salad SEO padding clickbait sites?

It's no secret that Google's SEO favors pages with a minimum of 300 words. As such sites like Screenrant will write 3-4 paragraphs of word-salad just to pad out their articles to game Google's algorithm. Sites like AV Club are now even using Chat GTP to generate enough SEO padding garbage in their articles.

But with sites now using AI to game Google's SEO, why doesn't Google do the same and use AI to spot that crap and bury the sites in search results?

I agree. They are a cancer like robocalls and must be eradicated. The only reason I can think of is that these SEO bait sites are made to load a million ads and Google's business involves those ads.

Because that would cost money. Google's search results have been steadily getting shittier the past 3 - 5 years. I guess at this point they've given up on their own game and see AI as the future.
