Would you like to live in the woods one day?

Sometimes, I fantasize about moving to the woods. Like, no electricity, internet and other modern world comodities.
More and more, I'm disgusted by what this world is becoming. I seriously plan to move in the woods at some point in the future. See, when your only focus is on survival, you don't have time to be depressed or be bored, you just don't have the time for that. Plus all the other benefits, like clean air, nature everywhere, taking a crap out in the open while the cool forest breeze gently blows under your buttocks etc.
I think that's gonna be my future in about 15 - 20 years. Probably not but I like to fantasize about it.
How bout you? You ever thought about moving to the forest, away from all the modern shit?

Yes. I'd love to have my own sanctuary in the wilderness. I've been living in the city for so long (Charlotte) because my ex-wife and I met here and she's a city girl, and now I stay because of my child - who's almost grown now. But my home is on the whispers of the wind through the trees. One day.

Nah, I like my electricity and internet.

I did, however, move from a big city to a small town a couple of years ago and it has been great.
Less chaos in general, fewer people, less crime, virtually no traffic jams, everything is close by (going to 3 different places in the big city would take hours, here it's like a 5 minutes walk from one place to the other) and I'm like a 20 minutes drive away from hiking trails, lakes, rivers, etc.

I sort of do now, yes I have all modern services like gas, electricity and internet but live far enough in the woods so no one bothers me but still close enough for a quick drive for whatever I need.
I don’t hunt or anything but farm a lot of fruits and vegetables so I don‘t really go to the supermarket often .

Elektro Demon Elektro Demon how are you going to get your whore fix ?

Good god no, I'd happily leave people behind but I like my creature comforts and electricity. Plus I like instant access to the worlds biggest porn repository.

I'm the opposite. I'm happy to abandon my creature comforts, but I'd like to keep those close to me.

Give me candle light, laughter, music, shrooms, magic and starlight.

Norah Jones is still the queen though. ;)

for sure. my dad has a house in the mountains i go to occasionally. there is something magical about nature.

also the Appalachian mountains are some of the oldest on the planet, and i find them very special.

ive been saving up money and not sure what to do with it, i have always imagined buying some land somewhere and building a futuristic compound.

I can understand the appeal of living off the grid. Getting away from the rat race has its' upsides and downsides. It's probably not for me though. There's a bunch of things I enjoy that require electricity. Living like that for a week probably has its' benefits.

Nah, you don't even need to move out of the city to become a hermit....that i have learned during quarantine. You can become a neet too if you wan't to compromise.
Probably the best combo.

No I don’t want that at all.

Not sure if grassy plains or forest, but looking at both at the moment. Would like to move to property with "fuck you" space around it. I think 10 acres of forest or mixed forest/grasslands would be good enough for me. Hopefully with good intarweb connection.

As long as it's not the rainforest.

FYI, the forests in Washington State are actually rainforests, if that tickles your fancy.

I'm a country lad at heart, and already avoid people as much as possible, grow a lot of my own food, build fences, fix the plumbing, sort out minor car issues and what have you, so I'm certain I could absolutely live that way.

Sadly family and qork mean I have to have at least some regular contact with the rest of thw world. If my wife ever wins the lottery though, we'd be off somewhere isolated like a shot.

Have you ever been out in the woods? I grew up in a hunting family. Unless you want to live the rest of your life using Off as a cologne I would suggest not doing that.

There's a word for that... CAMPING ⛺🏕

I used camp lots in the 90s, take off with friends and pitch a tent in the woods. No GPS, no cell phones, when you get there you get there. Go to the lakes, see nature, see the stars without the city lights. You get back home whenever. Of course there's wolves and bears and shit you have to watch out for. I miss those days.

Now I am way too posh and a germaphobe to camp like the old days. 😂 😒 I would rather go glamping. I could have probably done the "off the grid" thing then but not now.

I sometimes fantasize about having a block-hut in a forest, where i can stay over the weekend. Electricity for cooking comes from a 12V battery, water i need to bring myself, or get from a local river.

Its raining outside, summer, i sit in the hut with open doors, just watching the rain.
Another day, its sunny, i walk between the trees, smelling the forest.
Winter, i heat a little oven, warm my hands on a cup of hot chocolate, while listening to the wind sliding around the house.

lol probably not. but an off grid place some sort of bunker/fortification with solar panels to generate energy, some backup generators/other sources of energy, months worth of preserved food as well as vitamins. couple of off-road vehicles and some guns in case sh!t goes down on the grid maybe as a back up plan to take family to. need to do more research

I don't think I could live full time in the woods, but I wish I had some land and a cabin somewhere, where I could work on something handcrafted from time to time.

For whatever the reason, I really wish I could get into wood and stone carving and sculpting. I'd like to do some stuff like this (not Buddha related, just the aesthetics)

I am a tad empathetic to some of the ideals of the romantic movement, as in nature there is a sort of purity in both a physical and spiritual sense. It is good to meditate to our Creator (G-d) through creation. There is a profound beauty to it with all it's intricacies and purpose, how ecosytems develop and are balanced and the way creatures interact, adapt, and evolve to fill niches is just fascinating. However, nature can be brutal and man is not just an animal. There is a constant struggle for survival within nature and it ultimately cares not for altruism. Humans are not meant to be subject to it as we aren't creatures of pure instinct, we have rational minds and the capacity to love beyond ourselves. Besides, it is beneficial to not participate in the rules of the wild where all is essentially a free for all. I find transcendalistic thought rather weakly founded if we consider the fact that nature is not perfect nor necessarily good. So no, I would not choose to live in the woods, but I appreciate the desire to seperate from modern amenities that can be rather distracting.

I've thought this too OP, and sometimes I go into the woods for a walk, and then it's never more then 2 minutes before I'm surrounded by bugs annoying the fuck outta me.

Well I’d want solar panels and a lot of modern qol stuff, but yes, I’ve thought about moving to a very quiet place someday and buying a lot of land to live off. If amazon gets drone deliveries going reliably, I’ll jump sooner

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
It is my goal atm. I am currently saving to buy a couple acres on the woods near one of the remote coast cities of California. I am also thinking of designing my new house while I am at it.
The sudden decay of cities convinced me that I need to move far away from them.

PS: Also, from my conversations with a couple land sales experts, the virus and the city disarray are making this type of living more desirable. The recent fires in California tanked some prices though.
