2014 FIFA World Cup Final |OT| Germany defeats Argentina 1-0 after extra time

Yowza, that salt.

I'm not a German.

It's hard when the only Italian in the final is shit I guess. :p
j/k, relax

Let's not pretend the German team only won this game by being thugs. They had their bad moments but that applies to both teams. It was a deserved, hard fought win. Anyone saying otherwise probably saw a different game.

My wife is German, my three kids each have their own USA, Argentina and Germany jerseys (or can share if the size matches). My feelings on yesterday.

1. Devastating loss. It hurts to miss the opportunity to win in Brazil, in the Maracanao.
2. Was it a penalty? Absolutely. Am I sore about it? Yes and no. I feel like by the letter of the law, it should have been awarded. However, I think we missed on several golden chances, so I can't lay blame on the missed call alone. I think crying about the missed penalty implies that it cost us the game, and I don't feel it did. It would have changed the complexion of the game entirely, and sure, I would have loved the chance to take a 1-0 lead, but I can't say that's why we lost.
3. Argentina proved all the naysayers wrong. These were the two best teams, and if the final was played ten times, we'd have each team winning 5 times. Excellent, excellent game.
4. Argentina's gameplan was executed perfectly. We let the Germans come to us and tried to counter. While GER had possession, they did very little with it. Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on our chances, and thus, didn't deserve the win.
5. While I think Messi is the best in the world, and in the discussion for best ever, I don't think he should be considered greater than Maradona ever again. Even when Diego was triple-teamed or worse, his presence was felt. He didn't have to score to make an impression on the game. Messi was quiet and looked unsure of himself. I personally don't think he was 100% fit.
6. *edit* the substitutions for Argentina was terrible. Lavezzi should have stayed in the game, or Aguero should have started and had Lavezzi come in later. He's relentless.

My daughter, 8 year old, hugged me so tight when the game was over. She didn't say a word. We embraced for a good 3 minutes without a word. My family thought she was crying, but it was she who was consoling me.

My son ran around the house with his Germany jersey on. He was rooting for them from the outset. He is only 6, but he wasn't compromising, regardless of the pressure from the rest of the family.

Excellent finale to a wonderful World Cup. The pain from this loss will never be washed away, though.

Dude are you me?

My wife is German as well and both of my kids speak both languages fluently, my oldest kid being only 5 said he wanted both teams to win or draw :D poor kid could feel the pressure.

Anyways I am very happy for Argentina, we have a rematch with the Germans on September 3rd in Düsseldorf, looking forward to it.

What is going on here? People arguing about Neuer playing the ball?

Looks like everyone forgot about Mascherano and Aguero.

Funnily enough, I agree with everything in this post.

LOL this thread. Well, you guys aren't even arguing the correct red card the ref missed.

Cya.

Höwedes in the first half? Yeah, I agree. Höwedes himself was obviously relieved as fuck that he only got yellow for that.

But Mascherano and Agüero should have been sent off in extra time as well.

Overall the ref was awful, but at least not biased like the one from saturday.

That's quite the rebuttal of what I said, you getting better by the minute. And just to add some fancy spoiler too
I live in Germany

Yeah, it's ok. If that's all you got out of these links including the german one and discussion with you is not worth it.

Cry more, please. And living in Germany isn't an archivement or add more credibility to your posts.

That ref from Saturday, wow.

It is like the FIFA told him he will never be called upon again because he is so awful and then gave him a "farewell match"

What an abomination.

So you probably one of the two bitter, sad people in Germany right now.

Yeah, it was fiitting final for a great WC.

We've had people calling this WC as shit because their teams got sent packing. We've had people calling refs shit this WC (as if the previous ones were better), only because the decisions didnt go their way.

People will continue to be cry, whine and be bitter while others celebrate and move on with their lives.

even if people say that Neuer jump was a foul, ok then, Argentina had a few of there own they did without getting anything, kramer getting taken the fuck out and looking like he had a concussion,

Schweinsteiger getting taken out like 50 times and ending up having a cut below his eye,

both teams got away with there fair share of quetionable fouls that could have been a red or a yellow. but hey thats the nature of the game, the ref wont get everything to what we see when we get replays and they dont. another reason why many people are wanting them to start doing it.

until then everyone needs to just deal with sometimes things not going there way and other times things going there way when they shouldnt.
There werd two clear reds. Howedes kick and Agueros punch. Then there were a number of questionable challenges. In case of Neuer I think it should technically have been a penalty due to the challenge being reckless and having a significant chance of injuring Higuain, I do think though that Rizzoli made the right decision. If a penalty is questionable, just don't give it.

Kramer's injury was not even due to a challenge, let alone a questionable foul. Kramer ran into the Argentinian player and was very unlucky in the way he hit him.

If Adler would have not injured himself in 2010 he might be World Cup winner today. Because of his inury Neuer became the number one in 2010. The rest is history.

I think ze Germans were on some advanced undetectable steroids, like the old Barca, always full of running even up till the 112mins.

If Aguero, Higuain and Di Maria were fully fit, i think Argentina could have beaten the high German back-line

BTW i thought Messi played like he was a 34 y/o throughout the WC, i dont think his body can make it to 2018.

That was fucking insane.
It should be a yellow card not a red card.
Also couldn't this be an indirect Free kick in the penalty box for dangerous play?

How could it be an indirect free kick for dangerous play if he actually made contact?

It wasn't a foul anyway, just should have been a throw in.

Have you seen Adler play last season? He was quite possibly the worst starting goalie in the Bundesliga. It's remarkable how fast his skills went downhill in the last few years.

James, you forgot about this 100% legit goal that Argentina was denied

ibaukYhnuBh6ty.gif

Higuain is a twat anyway... doesn't even take the time to see if he was offside, of course a normal player would probably notice if he was offside and have a look at the linesman before celebrating, but IDK maybe Higuain is a moron.

Well, it's over. I had a great time with WC. The atmosphere around here in Rio was (and still is) incredible and everyone is truly enjoying themselves. The city is still crowded with tourists and the line to go to the Cristo was huge and everyone with the Germany jersey was saluted on the streets. No riots or anything of the sort, but then again, I stay away from the Fifa Fan Fest or things like that. It was way better than expected, but not without problems (traffic jams, some annoying drunks hitting on my wife, etc)

If someone from WC Gaf is still in Rio de Janeiro and want to hang out, PM me. The NYGaf folks were so friendly last year and I have to make up to it.

If you watched the WC from home, and like what you saw, give Brazil a try on your future vacations, Brazil is a nice, friendly, open minded country and ready to welcome you and your family.

Atleast you have one thing over james, acceptance.
There is another thing, maybe you missed it. Apart from my annoyance with the Ref yesterday I've already stated numerous times that Germany deserved their win. No discussion there Same with Italy going out. It's actually possible to disagree without all dat salt talk.

The most amazing thing in this whole cup has been one of my facebook acquaintances who got super mad at Germany winning. He's a huge Messi fan and got into a flame war about the guy with dozen other people. I love football (every 2 years).

Then why are you so bitter? Because the ref's record yesterday wasnt 100%?

I'm not happy with the ref either but I'm glad we had a great final without any of the controversy like the NED-MEX or BRA-COL games.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Salt posts should be bannable. Seriously it adds nothing to the discussion, it's just plain annoying and if anything it just adds more fuel to the fire.

People always use this shit when they are out of arguments.

Watching this right now, thanks, they look like someone died, second place is good too...

Maybe you saw the link a little late, just when the whole team was listening to our...President's speech. Their faces show how sorry they are after being so close to bringing the cup home, yes.

There are a lot of people (a lot) right now cheering outside.

well he asked why are people complaining about one not the other, is there anything wrong in what i stated?

There's nothing to argue about, a goalie catching a corner inside the penalty box while ripping a player's head off isn't a foul, too. That was inside the penalty box, otherwise he would have seen a red card.

Höwedes' foul in the first half was something different, as were other situations on the Argentinian side. I don't see anything unfair or even an "illegitimate win" as stated by someone else - it was a referee failing to intervene.

LOL at Roussef being upstaged by Merkel.

When Blatter was passing the Cup to his right, Roussef quickly snatched so that Merkel wasn't the one awarding it to the squad ''this my country, I award it!'' LOL

I'm not bitter, nor salty. I was angry at my stupid countryman almost ruining the final game. And I don't like how people throw their hands in the air like Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf. I think it's very well possible to admit that Howedes deserved a red card and that the Neuer situation was at least questionable and still be happy with a very well deserved victory.

But yeah, I should stop now after my right to live in Germany and still be critical about the freaking german football team is already in question. TEH OUTRAGE

I really want to go to Rio. But I'm a pasty blonde dude and slightly worried about the crime. An acquaintance of mine moved to Rio to live with his then girlfriend. A month later he was mugged at gunpoint twice and all his stuff stolen from a break in, and moved back to the Netherlands.
Watching cidade de deus obviously doesn't help either lol. I thought it got better but then a lot of people got pickpocketed (sometimes violently) during the fan events too.
