This is exactly why I gave away so many of my TPBs last week. I got rid of all seven Morning Glories trades, Uncanny Avengers, Thor, Young Avengers, Lazarus, The Wake, etc. I'm basically upgrading to hardcover or omnibus treatment for all of those.

Where are you giving away or selling your trades? Just curious.

Not to split hairs but isn't every series that has a separate penciller and inker basically that?

As for something closer to what you're looking for, Giffen did do layouts on 52 and Miller and Janson shared art duties towards the end of their run of Daredevil.

Isn't it usually a Writer + Artist + Colorist + Letterer? Top 10 lists Cannon and Ha as Illustrators and lists Wildstorm FX for Colors.

Finally finished going through the gorgeous Hellboy: The First 20 Years art book. Such amazing stuff. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Mignola's art. At just $11ish, it's a total steal.

Also, while taking a quick look at the back page that tells you all the other Hellboy/BPRD books, I saw that BPRD: Vampire is illustrated by Moon and Ba. I had no idea that existed. What a fantastic art choice for a BPRD book. I really hope all of the BPRD and other Hellboy universe books get collected in either Library Edition or big hardcover collection form eventually, because there's so much great Mignolaverse stuff, but I don't really want to be picking up a million different TPBs.

Just read the first two issues of the Salvation arc of Preacher. Yep, this is definitely my favorite arc, just as I remembered (not to say it's the best arc though. It's equally amazing as every other arc, but the setting and tone of this arc just really gets me good). Pure joy to read.

Yessssssssss. Outrageous and hilarious. Pure comedic genius.

Also, Messi, here are the Strangers in Paradise omnibus pics I promised!

And here's a picture of it on my shelf just to show how massive the thing is. Still can't believe I got 2200 pages of great comics for $55.
Yes, I know, my non-big-two comics are organized very badly.

I didn't get any pictures of the interior pages, but they're fairly thin but still pretty good quality matte pages. Pretty much what you'd expect the paper to be in 1100 page black and white comic books.

Oh my goodness

Please arrange those shelves properly, you make me sick.

Issue 7 happened?

No I haven't gotten that far yet. But this series is just beautiful. Allred is incredibly talented.

Well, American publishers have (historically) broken it down to Writer/Penciller/Inker/Colourist/Letterer. It's this whole production line/division of labour mentality.

Also I forgot to mention but the current Batgirl run has Cameron Stewart doing layouts and Babs Tarr doing finishes.

The Amazing Spider-Man run from Stan Lee/Romita Sr is mostly Romita Sr doing layouts/breakdowns and other artists like Don Heck, Jim Mooney and Gil Kane doing the finishes in Romita's house style. The reason for that is because Romita Sr's style got SO popular, increasingly called upon to do art corrections and touch-ups, and to interface with artists for ever-busy editor Lee, became Marvel's de facto art director. Didn't have time to do full pencils all the time on ASM.

he'd occasionally come back and do full pencils for "important" issues like #87 when Peter, sick with the flu and feeling bad, straight up reveals he's Spider-Man to the whole cast on Gwen's birthday party

ASM087_16.jpg

also, considering the retcon that MJ apparently knew Peter was Spider-Man since the beginning, that is some grade A bitchness going on in that last panel there

I cant believe I really finished the Annihilation Omnibus, it just took me about three months...

The end of Annihilation was quite good, espescially the part about the four Heralds of Galactus. My problem with the series were the Tie-Ins. Super Skrull and Ronan were plain boring. Drax was ok and the only one I loved overall was the Nova Miniseries. The Main series was very good, to.

I can see where all the love for Abnett and Lannings cosmic Marvel comes from, but I didnt clicked that much with me.
Still, I will definitly buy the upcoming Annihilation: Conquest Omnibus, because I cant imagine how they will make a good Ultron in Space and I am curious about the outfall of Annihilation (The implied cold war between the two Kree governments, the fate of Stardust and whats next with Galactus). And of course Richard Rider, the most awesome Dude in the galaxy.

Next up is Alias :)

OK, than I finally know the reason why I always mix up Gil Kane and Romita Sr.
(Hopefully they release a Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 Omnibus next year :( They would finally come in the area with my favourite classic Storys)

yea i never saw much point in the 4 tie ins to be honest. The read would be stronger if it just had the main story

Has anyone indulged in the Taschen '75 Years of Marvel Comics. From the Golden Age to the Silver Screen' ? Just curious about what ComicGafs take on it is. I much prefer graphic novels or trade paperbacks than information/coffee table books, but it is Marvel and I am a BIG fan.

I am incredibly tempted, my LCS has it in stock all sealed up and I have a bit of credit I could use, but it is pricey and at half the price of a Hot Toy I'm just unsure...

Abnett and Lanning didn't do the first Annihilation. In fact, I think the only thing they were involved with at that point was the Nova mini. They took over AFTER Annihilation. It gets better when they write the majority of it, trust me. There's still some not so great tie-ins for Annihilation: Conquest, but there are some amazing ones too-such as Star Lords.

It's a little funny, I think, how Annihilation has retroactively turned into an Abbett/Lanning thing.

Anyways as someone who has read most of this stuff and not really cared for it as a whole, the miniseries leading into the main series in Annihilation was one of the things I liked about it and Conquest

I swear that's the only part of my shelves that's not organized very well! The rest of it is all organized properly by publisher, then alphabetically within the publisher.

Just read the Hellboy short story "Nature of the Beast." Mignola is brilliant. Both the story and the art were just perfect.

If anyone wants a Mignola avatar, I made a couple that I didn't end up using.

How is Sledgehammer '44, by the way? Anyone here read it?

Finished five weapons 1-10. It was pretty good. It touches on elements of a naruto school with some GTO elements oh winning characters over. But the ending of the two arcs I found to be disappointing. The second just abruptly ends with a not from thwarted letting people know it's cancelled. C'mon resolve your story better than that! Not bad for the .99 cent sale per issue but not worth full price to read.

Next up, the fuse!

Haven't seen that one, but a bud of mine has a 75th Anniversary special that was fun to go through. It has a top 75 Marvel comics list that was intriguing.
Comic history is interesting.

WOO! My patience has paid off! I thought I was absolutely foolish to not buy all the Hitman trades for 60% off during the IST sale, but I just bought the whole collection from someone for $50! Awwwww yes!

Comic GAF, help me out here!

I've googled my brains out and I just can't figure the name of the graphic novel I used to loan from the library as a child.

The details are kinda vague, but should be enough to recognize the said piece if somebody has read it.

1) Man crashes on a foreign planet in a space pod. The suit is white. The helmet is red.

2) Primitive culture inhabits the planet. Say Conan the Barbarian era.

3) The last panel was the said man with a woman on a raft facing an immense sea. Might've been on a dam also.

4) It was probably European because I remember being fuck astonished by the near realistic (?) art. Then again, me being ~8 at the time.

5) It was probably released in the 80's or early 90's.

Reading more X-Statix on this rainy Sunday. Just got to the issues where
Edie dies :(
God damn, so sad! Though the issue is further cementing Tike as one my favorite characters.

I got All Star batman off the comixology Black Friday sale. Did I make a mistake?

I hope you've got some lemonade.

In, what, 40 years of funnybooks X-Statix is way high in my favourites. Kinda jealous of anyone that gets to read something like that.

This is also way high in my faves. You lucky people!

i'm waiting eagerly for that extra 10% off dark horse digital comics tomorrow, i bet Buffy Season 10 is infinitely better than Pax Americana, especially if you read it back to front.

So true, comic history IS interesting! The Taschen book I was asking about is absolutely MASSIVE. They did a DC version previously and it seemed to have been well received by people.

The final pages of Punisher MAX, those closing words... This is one of the best Marvel series I've read. DAMN. I love how
every arc is seemingly standalone, but most of them tie into the bigger picture in the end.

Really need to track down Born now, feel like I've missed out by not reading it first. The high praise for this run is more than justified, it's incredible. Ennis you genius.

And my Remender Punisher omnibus came in, so let's keep this train going

That whole arc was so great. That ending got me good. I can't remember for sure, but I think my eyes may have gotten a little misty at that ending.
Glad you're enjoying it! If I end up getting my fill of Preacher, I might read a few issues of X-Statix today too.

All the Sledgehammer stuff is great.

Cool! Thanks.

I am seriously so pleased. Ennis is one of my all-time favorites, so Hitman has been on my must-read list for a long time, so when I passed up on the 60% off Hitman sale on IST the other week because I couldn't bring myself to spend any money, I figured I was kind of an idiot. But as it turns out, my frugality really paid off. I'm really looking forward to reading it!

I got the DC one for Christmas a few years ago, that thing is absolutely massive and all kinds of awesome.
