You're acting like Ryse never happened. Funny enough, both these games are likely going to share a similar metacritic score, and both are among the best looking, but also most linear games on their respective consoles lol.
In Ryse's defense, it was a launch game and went through what seems like development hell after being planned as a Kinect only release for X360. It was also a third party exclusive deal.

I hold Sony's first party to a higher standard, and The Order seems to fail to meet that standard in every regard except graphics.

Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 are awesome. Are we ignoring some recent exclusives on purpose?

Smash Brothers and Captain Toad?

There have been some great recent exclusives.

I agree with your last 3 lines.
FH2 is not a next-gen exclusive. It is awesome tho.

Sony's exclusive titles keep bombing, at least from a critic point of view. I don't get it. They've always had extremely stellar 1st party output, at times rivaling Nintendo IMO due to the shear variety and output and not afraid to take chances. I don't see Bloodbourne being a disappointment, because From is amazing, but Sony's output this gen so far seems really uninspired. PS4s keep selling though.

Hilarious damage control is taking off in the OT right now.

"Oh do not listen to reviewers."

"Standards are higher today; the game deserves more!"

"Add extra points for being a Sony exclusive."

"Solid games are not enough; reviewers want to be WOWED!"

I have been so uninterested in this game that the black bars are news to me, watching the GB quick look now, shocking. I see what they're going for, but no thanks.

Alright. I just consider games owned by Sony, first party.

Oh, well I guess it doesn't make much difference either way.
If you throw in The Order & LBP 3, you still get 71.8 metacritic average.

Of coarse this leads to the question of just how useful is metacritic in determining if a game is any good, but I'm gonna avoid that since I don't wanna derail.

I'm not surprised. I wasn't impressed when they showed it off besides the graphics, but gameplay > graphics everyday.

Let's talk the sequel.

The Order: 1945.
Fight against WEREWOLF HITLER.
With crafting and RPG elements.

8/10.

Dude.... you know how awesome that would actually be? A TPS set in The Order Universe set in WW2? Where Hitler literally is a hybrid monster directing other rebels?

See I whole heartedly disagree with the scores DC and KZ:SF received to me they are at least solid 80s.
This generation of reviews just seem so off base with my personal opinion it is just so damn odd, wasn't like this last gen...

Absolutely. For me Driveclub is a 9,5 right now. Killzone Shadowfall an 8.

It's jsut... we DO know the game has no replayability and no online, no extra modes.
So right now, as much as i want to play it... i'll have to wait for a cheaper price.
Or, play it fast and sell it.. hmmmmmm..

Ha, i might do that actually.

"Independent thinker"? Yikes. It's easy enough to form your own opinion in a less resource intensive way.

I can respect your view. I'm happy with what I've seen of the game thus far, but if it's a disappointment, then there are other games to be played this year. Now as for the money i spent, I love that Lycan statue. I'm a hardcore collector of action figures and statues. This year is gonna be a goldmine in that respect. Now having said that, I have a feeling I'm gonna enjoy The Order 1886, because of it being a cinematic story driven game. I love that genre of games. :)

I'd put DC in it's current state in the 90s the thing is a graphical and multiplayer masterpiece.

I don't want to read too many reviews in case of spoilers, but what did they say on the length? I might Redbox it instead of buy it for now if 5-6 hours is the average.

Reading several of the worst reviews they reflect what I expected. Some reviewers still holding on to bad PR statements and using them to fuel their desire for something to be worse than it actually is. The game is far from revolutionary but it is also not a bad game this is pretty pathetic, journalism at its worst.

Looking at the scores of more recent games and then looking at the score the Order received just confirms these scores were set in stone quite a while ago.
Come on dude... lol.

I was expecting these scores. Still, if I ever get a PS4 I'll buy this one for sure.

That moment when MLB is the highest rated first/second party exclusive over a year a half from launch... Ouch.

Hopefully Blood does well.

That don't mean much if people enjoy the games there playing .
Sales are the be all of everything , not saying this game going to sell well but reviews hardly matter as much .
I just hope this don't kill RAD but they should put more content and replay value in there game .

Not that I'm egotistically looking in this thread for mentions of me (I am), but I do wanna just request my review quote in the OP changes, because this...

Open-world games aren't going anywhere, and I don't want them to, but The Order is proof that there's still a place for linear, cinematic gaming experiences. It may look like a modern game, but The Order is a throwback to some of the best releases from the PlayStation 2: games that didn’t need a massive world to tell a cool story. It turns out I really missed that.

... is from somebody else's review, not mine. <3

Hmm, OP pay attention :p

A quick search of metacritic shows this quote for Jim's review

When it allows itself to focus on action, it can provide a stimulating round of pop-and-fire combat, at least before it allows itself to drown in common distractions and intellectually insulting button prompts. While clearly assured in itself as a concept, it doesn’t extend that same faith to the player, so eager it is to hold its audience’s collective hands and guide them through corridors of patronizing tutorials and arbitrary gates to progression.

The quote you gave is from The Verge - http://www.theverge.com/2015/2/19/8062515/order-1886-playstation-4-review

Sony tends to get -2 review handicap because they don't strong arm publications and don't have the money to sweeten their relationships with them. Then there's the fact that they tend to be very hands off, and use their IPs as loss leaders. If they're not, all the better.

EA and Ubi have the deep pockets to market a mess of a game and find friendly eyes at the big sites. Not everyone does though. A better context would be they actually get a +2 handicap

Someone get the review bingo card out!

ugh, I wanted a pretty game to pick up with bloodborne and my ps4, I expected bad, but not that bad. I'll pass.

What? DriveClub sold over a million copies world wide... None of us know the target number for any of these games so we cannot say if they bombed or not.

Drive Club sold less than Bayonetta 2 in it's first month in the US.

It opened with like 7.000 units sold for it's first week in Japan. It bombed in the US and Japan.

...and the european sales are because it was bundled here with most "vanilla" PS4s.

I find it funny that this game seems to do exactly what a lot of folks don't appreciate about today's bigger budget games.

Too much focus on the cinematic experience.

Keep hyping, keep buying, and you'll continue to see this.

At this point it should just become its own genre. That way games of this type would have considerations made prior to review.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
You're on a mission, aren't you? Why don't you just calm down and breathe instead of trying to make other people look like fools.

How about these so called "insiders" stop hyping up games they don't even know about? saying people will eat crow and shit like that.

I have nothing against shinobi but he was one of the big mouths when hyping up this game so he could at least come in here and say something.

Ohh yeah, sorry... I wasn't really trying to offset any average. It was just an observation. ;)

0 for 2 for me this gen as far as my most anticipated games are concerned. First watch dogs now this. Only game left for me is the division.

I don't get why Sony even allowed them to release it this way - The damage they did to the IP now is probably irreversible and it must've already cost a shit ton to make the game.

If you read most reviews, the main complaint is that it just isn't a very good game - even with the few mechanics it has.

I did read the reviews thanks. Many of which wanted more than what it is.

It sounds like the game I expected it to be. Expectations were set too high.

I just got here and I have to say I'm shocked myself.

I guess linear games truly are a dying trend.

Wolfenstein got a 79 on mertacritic doing something similar though. It could just be that this particular game isn't a shining example of a linear shooter.

The Order isn't 1st party, but yeah, not a great start this gen.
I am sure they will get things rolling though once games like UC4, Tearaway, and GoW start to roll out....

1st Party
-Knack [54]
-Driveclub [71]
-Infamous SS [80]
-MLB [83]
-Killzone SF [73]

( 72 average metacritic score)

2nd Party
-LBP 3 [79]
-The Order 1886 [63]
-Bloodborne (coming soon)

(71 average metacritic score)

what? I see 5 good games here and 2 average games :/

I honestly don't understand the baiting of posters and the victory lap in the name of "fun". For a raging fanboy that cried out loud for MGSV not being GAF #1 most anticipated game (dropped by Uncharted 4).....I guess this is some sort of vindication....who knows really.

Come on now... You're acting like it's a virus.

Ok maybe I went too far with the Uncharted 4 thing. I fn' adore ND games btw.

Just was trying to say that Sony exclusives have been generally disappointing as of late. And I haven't played The Order, maybe I would like it, but I'm not sure I will spend $60 just to figure it out.

yeah, DC probably deserves better after the online fixes, and weather, but unfortunately, most sites don't take time to update scores.

When even IGN was calling the game "boring" during the preview cycle you knew it wasn't getting a pass.

Seems like their cinematic focus did them little good.
