I recommend Jackie chan in fists of fire. Even when you lose, jackie says you're getting better! It's a very positive, and encouraging fighting game that really treats new and lesser players such as your self with a lot of respect.

You made me choke on my food.

Someone should make a game with no blocking. With the motto of the game, "A good offense is a good defense."
I've actually thought about this. No blocking. Characters have "defense" in alternate forms:
-A character that has dodges with invincibility.
-A character that can teleport with no recovery.
-A character with lots of super armor.

So it's all just kind of one big mess of attacks and invincibility/armor.

But no blocking.

To help with resets, all characters have a "burst" gauge that continually builds while getting hit. All combos eventually end either with an early reset attempt (which reduces the burst gauge by a certain amount), or with a successful burst as a character just gets tired of being beaten up.

A successful burst could be like going Super Saiyan, and the character gets a permanent speed boost. :-D

Games like Gundam and VO:OT have block moves but it's nowhere near as high priority as other games. Emphasis is on limiting your opponent's opportunities to get damage and punishing them.

Fucking snow. It's such a lovely situation when your professor doesn't email you, guilt tripping you into coming in for one class only to get hit with the unblockable "school is closed" midway through class.

Why did I even have to trudge through this crap at all man. :(

Yeah it's super amazing at teaching how to not play any other fighting game.

I actually agree with this. My Street Fighter skills did not translate to Marvel when I switched, what made it even worse was when I got back in SF, Marvel deteriorated my dashing on pad and zoning... From time to time, I still mash for advance guard in SF, that's how you know you've played too much Mahvel.

play marvel 2 to get ur defense up
Pushblocking to negate fast high/lows and spamming of invincible assists makes it easier to play defense in that game (plus the strong mobility of some of the top tiers means you are out of harms way a lot of the time). Playing defense in MVC3 is harder as getting locked down on the ground means a bunch of mix ups as opposed to just one in MVC2 and there's a much stronger left/right mix up game as well. Characters can also touch each other easier with wider hit boxes and more equal movement options (relatively speaking of course, there is still a huge gulf in mobility options in MVC3). Finally, aside from Haggar assist there are no true invincible assists and calling assists to save you from pressure is a sure fire way to lose the game. The best defensive assist is Hidden Missiles and that only works when you have created space already.

It also teaches you to pick a top tier

Hmm...

Day 1 - Dante/Felicia/Strider
Day 2 - Dante/Amaterasu/Strider
Day fuck this need sleeze ASAP - Viper/Dante/Strider

Yep, I'd agree. I don't know what I'd have done if I didn't find a fun top tier that complimented Dante/Strider. :lol
