The guide looks nice. Maybe I'll get it from my local Kinokuniya. They're having a 20% storewide discount anyway this weekend:)

So an Heirloom for my Fencer line got cursed when it got passed on to my latest youngling, with some pretty awful effects to boot. Is there something I can do about it?

you might need to beat Tokasen to un-curse it? I can look into the guide in a bit.

Yes, if you take the owner of that gear and destory the monster that cursed it, you'll remove the curse from it.

I'm enjoying the game so far...

But I still haven't the faintest idea what I'm doing. I think I might start over. I only really played for about 3-4 hours (apparently I played longer than I thought). I don't think I have a firm grasp on all the concepts and stuff the game is throwing at me. Also keys are confusing. Think I should start off fresh on dedicated, and take things REALLY slow.

It's not just maps but explanations on how the DNA stuff works full bestiary and Rite of Creation list with their stats listed as numbers. This is a pretty thick book.

I still have no idea what is what in the DNA screens. Up until now I just choose anyone that I see good looking and has the highest stats, lol.

So are the dungeon layouts different depending on which 'entrance' you use (from different lands) or am I crazy?

I can't find the 4th festival in the Forest Glade. The dungeon design in this can be frustrating when combined with time limits and month specific events. You run through a dungeon for an hour and have to reload and lose all progress. The choice of forcing you to lose progress or play through an additional year and then hope you can find it is not something I care for, especially since I'm getting a bit tired of running the same dungeons over and over.

I have a horrible sense of direction, and the lack of a full size map is really making the game frustrating for me. I'm trying to find the 3rd festival, which for me is in the Runaway's Descent and I'm just not seeing it. I've been looking for three months but the invisible pathways and such are making it a hassle. I'm probably going to have to leave the dungeon and start over shortly.

For me it was in-between the 2nd and 3rd major areas, in the lower right. It wasn't in a room with any invisible floors. I'm not sure how randomized the location is though.

So two of my people unlocked secret artes at the same time after I beat a trapped god boss. It said it can be passed down to children of the same trade once. So... How does that work? I don't want to miss the boat on them getting passed on.

After they are born, you need to have them train under the character that knows the secret arts.

Started this yesterday. The dungeon layouts are confusing due to missing overall map.

Quick Question:
I missed the first festival in march due to "making babies" Will I have to wait for it till next year? Or it can be attempted now anytime?

You have to wait a year. It can only be done on that month of the year.

Yeah, it sucks.

Still not sure how the whole gene thing works, for example why do gods have maternal and paternal genes when they can only be one or the other?

Came across this but havent had a chance to test it yet:

"Last digit of glory + last month of parent's age = X
If X is even, then its a girl.
If X is odd, then its a boy.

Example:
Parent has 363 glory and has lived for 1 year and 9 months.
3 + 9 = 12
Child will be a girl."

And

"Want to know the algorithm for twins?

(glory + age in months) / 64

If the remainder is less than 2, then twins will be born. The threshold is multiplied by 3 if you only have 1 person in your clan. The threshold multiplies by 2 if you only have 2 people in your clan. It multiplies by 1.5 if you have 3 people in your clan. The threshold is normal if you have more than 3. Some deities have an additional algorithm for making twins.

Example:
Character X has 12,864 glory and is 19 months old.
4 people in the clan
The partner deity does not affect twins.
12,864 + 19 = 12,883
12,883 / 64 = 201 with a remainder of 19
The remainder is more than 2; thus, twins will not be born."

There's some vague information about boy/girl birth rates in the guide but there is info on which gods are more likely to generate twins.

I'll see if I can translate some useful information tomorrow.

Seattle. I didn't check to see if they had more.

I might have to grab this just because.

That shit is larger than the DQ Monsters books and those were massive.

I have a small problem on the second festival (september).

I try to kill the
Giant Crab where the boss is,
but every time that i deplete the energy, it's restored again.

I just have to keep beating him? Or is a fake battle where i have to flee?

It's the latter.
You have to flee for story reasons.

Thanks. It seemed, by the previous dialog, that the solution was fleeing, but being able to deplete his energy so easily confused me. And also, I needed to many retries to reach that festival on time, (fcking mazes) so I was scared to flee and lose the progress.

How do i use shells with gunners? I got gunners because of the all enemies attack...
While we are at it is there a trick to get yellow and green stuff at the roulette before the fight? For example i tried so many times to get the Heal All skill killing enemies that give it but nothing, it's frustrating...

You have to equip a shell weapon. It will say whether it is a shell weapon when in the equipment menus. The other type of weapon (cannon I think) is just a regular single target attack.

So an issue I've been running into is determining how capable my clan members are. I know that the red-headed dude gives you a recommended stamina amount for festival boss fights, is that how you determine roughly how strong your characters are? I'm on my fourth or so generation of people and just now being strong enough to handle the monsters beyond the first areas of the dungeons.

Also, from what I understand, fire body is what determines attack power and the mind stat determines the power of elemental damage on weapons? And is there an element wheel or do I just have to go by an enemy's mind stat to determine what they're weak against?

September? I had the second festival in June. Is it randomly decided which month a festival will take place?

I'm having a lot of fun with the game so far, even though I don't quite understand a lot of the systems yet.

What I was also wondering about, does the game have some kind of time limit? Do I need to beat it in x number of years or is that of no importance? I'm not sure if missing a festival is bad or if it doesn't matter whether I'm trying to beat the festival bosses early or if I'm trying to strenghten my clan instead for another year or so.

The locations seem to be randomized, I wouldn't be surprised if the dates were too.

There's no time limit, you can spend as many years as you want to beat a festival. Missing it is only bad in that you need to wait a year to attempt it again.

I've never seen him give a stamina recommendation for fights.

Not being a smart ass here but it seems to me that this game needs a huge tutorial....isnt there one at the start or you guys kinda ignored it lol...? (or its bare bones ? ).

Even though most of you seem to love it,all those ''I dont know what I am doing I think I might restart after 4 hours'' are scaring me off lol.

You can read the the weasels diary and it explains everything. The only thing it didn't explain was that you won't find keys to every locked color door in one dungeon.

The game explains most things, you just need to go into the help sections and read. And honestly it's pretty forgiving except in terms of time wasted, I can't see a reason to restart when there are no missables. Though unfortunately it doesn't give you any hints on where to find the festivals in a dungeon. :(

I've never seen him him a stamina recommendation for fights.

If you go to the portal entrance when the festival isn't happening, he'll be standing there next to the big paper lantern. He'll give you a stamina recommendation for the boss fight when you walk up to him.

He recommended
400 stamina
for the
third festival boss, but I still didn't stand a chance :/

If you go to the area of the festival but the festival has yet to occur you will find him standing there and he'll comment, saying "Why don't you come in September, when you have 500 stamina." Or something similar.

Dammit got a kid with that ridiculous tonsure haircut

Edit: In the demonography some mobs/bosses have icons listed under weakness, but I cant seem to see any description of said icons in Kochins notes, anyone come across anything on it?

I found an explanation for the stats.

>Heart
Fire - Emotional (liable to leave clan)
Water - Considerate
Air - Unpredictable, flighty (liable to leave clan)
Earth - Dedicated

>Mind
Fire - Offensive
Water - Heal
Air - Status ailments / drain
Earth - Status resistance and resist mag(?)

>Body
Fire - Attack power
Water - More stamina
Air - battle turn speed and dodge
Earth - resist phys attack

Also since there is no way of knowing your levels and every stat is passed down, I supposed stamina is a easy way of letting you know how strong you need to be to pass the next story content, which requires you to do more leveling and to pass that genes down to the next generation.

Yes, if you take the owner of that gear and destory the monster that cursed it, you'll remove the curse from it.

Argh, I had a feeling. Kind of annoying cause I ran into her in one of those story regions that you lose access to once you move on, so I'm gonna have to hunt her down somewhere else.

Guess I'll have to dedicate a whole generation to removing the curse off this thing.

Edit: Anyone have a Gunner weapon heirloom they're willing to share? I can't get another blacksmith into my town to make one. :(

Maybe I'm just missing a key, but anyone know how to get down in this area ? My second demon festival is waiting here, and there seems to be a lift mecanic, but I don't know how to activate it. We can see the lift in the japanese wiki posted by Uthred.

Really enjoying the game so far, but I can't progress since several years. Still missing two keys (purple one and red one).

You have to keep pushing forward in the fire area to the left of that. It eventually circles around and puts you in the right side blocked off by rocks, which let's you activate the elevators as a shortcut. I don't think you need a key for it, but I can't remember.

4th Seimei battle down. Much more manageable than the third - spending a few years powering up helps a bit.

Also drawing maps for each dungeon so far to help keep things straight ><

Thanks, I should have try once more before posting, I don't really know why I missed the lower level in the first place, but I miss a global map :(

Anyway time to team up with
Nueko-chan now <3

Is it better to assign the same trade as the parent to the children?
That's what I do, especially since the Secret Arts came in. You can pass those down from parent to child if they're the same trade. In addition, with new branches entering my clan, I try to keep one trade per family branch.

Found the third Instrument. I'm really digging the game so far.

Downloaded this last night, gonna start playing soon. Reading this thread it seems there's so much to process...

Any fundamental tips for starting out?

The videos I've seen make it seem like the frame rate is real high, is that the case with the actual game?
