Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

I seem to remember skyrim being handled the same way. Lots of hype at the conventions and then not a lot of pr until release date. So I'm not worried about it.
My memory of Skyrim is different.

A quick Google shows a reveal trailer a year out, followup trailer a few months later, previews from media starting at least three months out, and long (five pages in GameSpot's case) previews a few weeks out.

I'm not worried about the state of the game or anything, they've been working on it for 5 years (a bit longer if early leaks were true) it's just stupid that they think people are still generating a buzz with no marketing whatsoever.

It just doesn't make sense, fair enough, they know for a fact it's still going to sell millions of copies, but the lack of a marketing push is crazy in my eyes. They should be wanting to market the shit out of it.

Maybe we'll get something next week?

Edit: Todd Howard and Pete Hines did warn us about this though at E3. They said that they won't be showing a lot of footage due to spoilers and wanting people to experience it for themselves. They even mentioned the leaked stuff from the other year and they seemed pissed off

Probably just another way of saying "hey, we've spent millions upon millions, making the game. We really don't wanna spend upwards of $30,000,000 marketing it".

I think you're just used to the ridiculous amount of showing off that companies like Ubisoft do with Assassin's Creed and such.

Yeh it's like people have forgotten how thing used to be advertised, some companies don't show the first 30 minutes of the game and release two trailers a week for two years before the game comes out.

Regardless, the launch trailer will be up next week.

Yeah, I probably am at this point, it's a little disappointing because I like to be extremely hyped like I was for MGSV etc.

Nah, I remember, it's just I like the big marketing pushes, especially trailers and previews.

Yup Skyrim in comparison had a large marketing campaign including gameplay videos, trailers, hands on, interviews, etc. this type of marketing strategy of not showing the game is really unprecedented for a large AAA game.

can I just say how nice it is to see that most of the big triple a games have made it out this year without being delayed? god damn 2013-2014 were painful years. Games were geting delayed left right and center. Nice to see that change this year.

Images have popped out from what looks like PS4 version of the game. All pictures are from very early game, basically what E3 demo showed us, but you know...

POSSIBLE SPOILERS!

Edit: About timeline of FO4;
The date on the Pip-Boy is 2287, 210 years after the bombs fell, 10 years after Fallout 3, and 6 years after Fallout: NV.

That's also my recollection but I also remember Bethesda mostly showing Mr Horny Hat idling around the countryside getting into random fights with bandits which really didn't give much away given Skyrim was an iteration of Oblivion.

I feel that Fallout 4 is a much bigger step forward from Fallout 3 (and New Vegas) and they just want folks to experience as much as it as possible. There probably will be less random encounters than the 100,000 bandits in Skyrim - it is still effectively a wasteland, albeit one with some colour, so maybe they are concerned about giving away cool bits of the game. Every thing they show is one less surprise in the game.

I would still like to see decent quality footage of what was shown at Quakecon but we're so close now that it's not a massive deal for me. The less they show the more my mind will be blown when I play it myself. I love have those "wow" moments where you realise something changed and is now very cool indeed.

the internet, where a game either looks so good I want to ripp my eyes out and put them in a jar because I am not worthy of looking at it, or it looks so bad it actually gave me 3 types of herpes just from looking at it

never change

I guess I wasn't paying attention, back then.

maybe Bethesda feels that five years later those types of previews aren't necessary. I can't remember the last time I've bothered reading a preview. I'm guessing we will start seeing more video next week. Personally, I'll be waiting for the digital foundry face off and making a decision then.

Have not looked at the screens, but bethesda did they would downgrade the graphics if they need to. And with XB1 version being 1080p i'm sure sacrifices were made somewhere.

It's the PS4 version and there is nothing spoilery about them, just E3 stuff.

Looks quite outdated... but we all know Fallout isn't about graphics or even animations...

Yeah, for me animations and graphics are a big part of getting sucked into a world nowadays.

Certainly hope so.

Even at PAX Aus today a 40 minute long for Fallout 4 ended with an unplayable video, while on the floor you had playable Just Cause 3, The Division, Unravel, Battleborn, to name a few, which are all further away than Fallout 4.

Just an observation, more than anything.

No, I didn't think that. But I will await the DF-article.

Those screens posted are not flattering at all.

The PS4 version is going to be built off the XB1 code. I can't see bethesda, who has a very close relationship with MS, making anything better about the PS4 version.

If so, the XB1 version should look worse. There's not many 1080p open world games for XB1.

$&@$ that 5 yrs in the making..FO3..this time with more color.

No not really, seriously go back and actually play FO3 or NV they do not look anything like this at all.

I've been playing NV for the last week and it still looks great but just from screenshots of this PS4 version it looks significantly better.

I know what you're saying believe me, and it is on a next gen console but...I didn't expect or was prepared for visuals on that level.

I'm not familiar with fallout. Can someone explain what makes the game so good? I mean, is it basically like skyrim im terms of gameplay? Open world rpg with classes, abilities, upgrades etc. etc.

Alternatively, both console versions will be minmus effort ports from PC. In which case it is possible PS4 has fewer performance hitches, but possibly both console versions won't have great performance. If the DF face off is 'which console version is least bad', is that really a win for anyone?

I think they know that the day the game releases (and a few days before probably) there will be hundreds of people streaming the game on twitch. The game will sell itself.

Set in a post apacolyptic world. The main difference is the combat system. You use guns and can use an assisted targeting system that allows you to pause gameplay and decide how to shoot the enemy. Fallout 4 now has more control over crafting weapons and bases. That looks to be the most interesting improvement over previous Bethesda games.

maybe im just blind with hype but i think the shots look pretty good, obviously this isn't a game thats focus is graphical showcase, but the rad roach, some of the furniture and environmental elements, and the soldier in the power armor, all look pretty good

also dig the loot screen and the hud, tbh

That's pretty much me right now. It's sad cause i don't even think I got halfway through in wasteland 2 and now I just don't want to do anything game related except talk about fallout or play it.

to me at least, i think what separates fallout from other open world rpgs, is its sense of loneliness and exploration

many games have it, but not quite like fallout has it
