While I agree they can get more talent that's doing a disservice to plenty of fantastic dub anime VA's out there. Liam O'Brien being one. I wouldn't say he's the perfect choice for Saitama by a mile but for other characters yeah.

I dont watch a whole lot of anime, butoutside of Miyazaki dubs everything sorta blends together

In other news

Mumen is the best

The budget and animation for this episode...so good!

I loved how well they animated and choreographed Genos' fight and then, Mumen Rider's speech. Saitama taking the blame and that letter reveal ;_;

Too good.

Anyways, I hope we get some Fubuki eps.

I could see O'Brien as Sweet Mask potentially. Not sure who would make a good Saitama.

Wait, Viz has the anime license, right? Is there a particular talent pool they tend to work with?

I really rally hope they dont go with a standard "anime dub voice" for saitama...would love a traditional western cartoon voice actor.
Makoto Furukawa has done such an amazing job as Saitama. I think it's going to be a challenge finding a VA with the range to nail Saitama's serious, deadpan and higher pitched comical sides the way he has.

Johnny Young Bosch for Genos though, yeah?

Oh yes, the most traditional anime dub voice for Genos would be perfect, not even joking.

Yeah it's a hard voice to pinpoint. The japanese VA for me is exactly what I imagined. Silly but not too silly. In the english dub I'd like him around this range too, but hard to think of someone at the top of my head that has voiced a character that could work.

Genos isn't hard though, just do a pretty boy voice. Like get someone from Avatar or Korra's team.

Yeah, they need someone who can handle the sort of laid back tone Saitama has pretty much all the time.

I don't know, I feel like someone with a slightly lower range might work a bit better.

Edit:

You know, thinking along those lines it actually could work. While we're at it let's go with Yuri Lowenthal as Sonic. JYB could also maybe be a good Licenseless Rider.

Yeah, no one springs to mind right away. I'm trying to think of a particular VA who has done characters similar to Saitama in any fashion but can't think of anything, though that doesn't exactly say much. Really anyone could come and surprise us.

Yeah, he shouldn't be too hard to find a good pick for.

Was Vaccine-Man meant to be a parody of Piccolo to any extent? He always reminded me of him in terms of design for some reason. I always imagine him voiced by Chris Sabat for that reason.

People who have not read the manga are in for such a ride these last 3 episodes, goddamn. Shit will be glorious beyond words.

Why does all the drama in this show feel so forced?

Because it's a parody/comedy show about heroes with a completely over the top broken protagonist?

You don't watch it for drama

So far there just isn't enough material to do a clean wrapup of a second season. The manga has to advance a bit first.

There is. It's just Murata hasn't drawn it himself. ONE, despite his inability to draw, setup the key scenes for the action in his version. The animators would just need to fill in the gaps if they really wanted to go for it.

Now I'll be disappointed if he isn't voiced by the guy who did Mako from Korra.

Bud Bundy as Genos. I can dig that.

Man, Sea Kings instant face changing with healing or his mood is real good.

Why does all the drama in this show feel so forced?
Because you don't want to accept the loving embrace of Licenseless Rider into your heart? Or your so focused on well, Saitama will just beat them anyway so who cares?
Where can I find the episode in 720 or 1080? Daisuki is only showing 360 or 480 right now.

Have to log in to have 720p and 1080p options.

I think the decision to pursue a second season will rest entirely on the success of this season and on manga sales because of it. It's already doing really well in the west so that's a good sign.

But unlike the manga where they could just take straight inspiration of fight scenes from that, they'd need the director to strongly emphasize his vision for action scenes and start from scratch. If it gets announced but takes longer as they storyboard it I'd be fine with it.

Genos always gets the bests scenes.

This episode made it more clear what Saitama is trying to do. Mad respect for that.

Awesome episode. The part where Saitama's punch stopped the rain had me in stitches.

The newspaper scene with PuriPuri was a super nice touch. Feels like Madhouse were laying the groundwork for his future character development there, even though a Season 2 is likely still far off.

Another anime change that I loved is how Saitama reacted to Genos' dissolved body. Instead of his completely nonchalant "lol how are you even alive" we get a glimpse of Saitama actually being a little alarmed and concerned for his student/roommate/only friend/#1 fanboy. With tiny little changes like that MH have been doing a great job at giving their relationship a bit more depth.

With this episode, Rider has become the third person behind Genos and Bang to fully realize (and appreciate) how strong Saitama actually is. The fanclub grows!

They did a pretty good job with this scene

I feel like the ending of the episode could have used some different music. Also when they mention him cheating the exams they didn't show the rumors of how he cheated which was funny in the manga. But solid episode otherwise.

Damn, Mumen Rider is awesome. I was worried he'd just show up at the last second and accidentally get all the credit for Saitama's victory but his touching stand against the Sea King and the subsequent dinner with Saitama really made him grow on me. Cool dude.

That's my fucking point. Why do they feel the need to add drama that doesn't even make sense? There's no way that the public would undermine Saitama's achievements when he punched the rain away. They probably even felt the shockwave from his punch.

Hell even the crowd shots were well animated.

Next saga is one of the best so hang on to your butts.

Eh there were still a few weak crowd shots (one in particular stands out in my head) but overall yeah it was better than last week.

Also yes, lets get hype for
Boros!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. There isn't some huge gap in quality between VAs who do Western Cartoon vs. Anime (to say nothing of the fact that the talent pools already have a lot of overlap in terms of actual actors). Or do you mean VAs who only occasionally do VA work but aren't primarily Voice Actors? Like I feel pretty confident we aren't going to get Vin Diesel or Patrick Stewart to play Saitama in any English Dub if that's what you mean :p

They did a pretty good job with this scene

The new music definitely helped. Licenseless is awesome and perhaps the first Hero Saitama has ever praised. Realy wish we'd gotten this little bit, though:

Still, ep9 did a good job establishing Rider's pure Hero spirit. He's very similar to pre-Bald Saitama.

I imagine if Saitama had never achieved his power he would have ended up a legitimate Class C and not too different than Licenseless.

In the manga he doesn't punch the rain away, they just added that in the anime. His punch is quite sedate actually considering his strength.

I do wonder how many of the villains Saitama has defeated before the sea king were on a similar power level to him.

Because Saitama just defeats everything with a single punch it's basically impossible to gauge the power of any enemy that hasn't had a direct match up with another hero.

ONE has said Saitama's full power punch is as powerful as the big bang. We'll likely never see it if true without going into crazy dimensional stuff like Gurren Lagann.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
GENOS is so epic this episode! One arm and all. Though this episode was once again one of the moments that made this series step so far down for me in terms of action. What would have improved it would have been
if Saitama had appeared when Genos was about to take the Acid and then Saved Genos and the girl in the process. Then we could have had a GenoSaitama combi takedown
I agree with you that Genos was definitely awesome in this episode. DiTtLe, you need some perspective though. Genos is the moon to Saitama's sun and once you except that then you will really enjoy this series more I feel... more so than you clearly already do. Genos loses are not proof of his inferiority but a device used to contextualize the impact of the challenge at hand; you can't be weak to be that device. Saitama and Genos are the bros in this show. No one understands a bro like his partner and if you don't seriously see that bond then I totally underestimated you man :(

All that said, I'm having a hard time choosing which punch this episode was more bad-ass. Saitama's atmosphere clearing punch had me in rewind for like 10 times.. it was pretty sweet but I cannot discount just how insane the framing of Genos's punch was. The beam path and the POV shot from inside the shelter of the beams path to give it scale is just something this show does so well. You never feel like Genos's moves like power even if it falls sort of destroying the villain of the week every time however when Saitama comes in and deals the level of power necessary to defeat the villain, it never seems to diminish Genos's actions -- for me at least.

This was a really really good episode.

You're way over analyzing this show I feel like. Just let Mumen rider have his manly moment and let the public be hilariously dumb. If you take this shit seriously you're watching for the wrong reasons.

All I'm saying is it makes no sense to first market your main character as the most OP character ever, with absolutely no shame, then add drama that makes him out to be an underdog. It's forced drama.

Sucks at poetry
I haven't found any of the situations with Saitama to have a lot of drama or tension. He is almost a comic relief character despite him being the protagonist.
