Is there a Discord group for SC GAF?
No. None that I'm aware of at any rate. There's not enough of a need for a VOIP solution right now anyhow.

I just realized some of the prices for backer ships. Is their any indication how easy it will be to say earn yourself an Idris? Or will this game end up like Eve where only the 1% is capable of owning such ships.

I guess this question mostly refers the the persistent multiplayer universe, as opposed to private servers.
The only relevant quote was a hell of a long time ago placing a Constellation at around 40 hours. Linear extrapolation would place an Idris as being over 200 hours then. Linear extrapolation of income generally isn't a good way of estimating though, and when combined with the age of the Constellation quote, is probably best ignored.

However it turns out, you can pretty much bet that obtaining something like an Idris will take a while. It wont be impossible to get by any means though. There's just one caveat to consider: being able to afford one and being able to run one effectively are two entirely different things. We're talking a huge multi-crew ship that you'd have to be crazy to leave entirely in AI hands. You'll want other people - many other people.

That said, we have three Idris in the org currently, so anybody that wants to experience playing on one should have the opportunity to do so without worrying about actually owning one.

There is very little. They have stated the intent is that gaining ships shouldn't be too onerous and they're definitely not looking to replicate EVE.
There are some very large ships that are primarily designed to be owned by orgs (like a Hull D) because the economics of their functionality simply wouldn't scale to a single player. I don't know where an Idris fits in that scale.
The Idris is far beyond a Hull D on the "need an org to use" scale. Heck, it's beyond a Hull E. The Hulls can be operated with a small crew effectively. It's the cost of the goods and protection of a massive target that make up the challenge. Heck, you could outsource the escort protection to another organization while you pilot the thing solo if you really wanted to. An Idris, on the other hand, requires multiple times the crew to run at the same effectiveness and would still be part of a fleet in any real operation.

finally said fuck it and downloaded the ptu solo hack. Man this game is good looking and this is coming from playing battlefront maxed on my 980ti. Incredible atmosphere in the stations and runs without a hiccup on my setup though this is without any other players. Hopefully they up the number of invites as I'm only like 7k away from the first 50k

Big patch notes this time:

2.0.0f PTU patch notes said:
This is a patch for the 2.0.0 PTU. Please fully restart your client and launcher to ensure your client is updated – your PTU client should show “2.0.0-301574-PTU” as the version. Due to the number of recent fixes to the PTU, it is strongly recommended that players delete their PTU USER folder and verify their files after patching. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:program FilesCloud Imperium GamesStarCitizenTest. Game files can be verified through the launcher, by clicking on the advanced options (Gear icon) and clicking “Verify”. This is particularly important if users encounter any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. Please also note that Arena Commander multiplayer and ArcCorp are now available on the current PTU for testing.

If you don’t see Patch Notes in your launcher, please restart your launcher immediately to update it. At this stage of testing, please refer to the PTU Issue Council for submitting bugs and feedback for optimal turn-around time. Please note that this is only for this phase of PTU testing and that the normal Issue Council is for the submission of bugs only. During this initial testing phase, PTU access will be restricted to a small group of players that we will expand on over time. You can check out the full 2.0.0 PTU notes for more details about the patch and content or our 2.0.0 PTU Known Issues FAQ for bugs we are already aware of.

Important warnings from the updated Known Issue List:

Landing Pad 9 on Strut A, and Landing Pad 10 on Strut C of Port Olisar are both missing some geometry. Don’t mind the dust!
Multicrew ships (Constellation and Retaliator) are sometimes encountering issues with their elevator collision.
The Constellation and Retaliator HUD’s are missing Quantum Travel nav points in this build.
We have a specific Issue Council thread where are requesting additional information from players regarding Error 0 disconnections.
Some special reminders from the main 2.0.0 patch notes:
Approaching the atmosphere of a planet or moon too closely will result in your ship receiving a warning, and if you continue flying toward it for too long, your ship will begin to rattle apart and be destroyed.
This is not how the functionality will work long term, and is temporary for the purposes of testing.
This will also happen if you approach the edge of the Crusader system.

I love the Gladius. Honestly I think it is my favorite single seater ship in the game.

yep I'm 57k and got mine, hope it runs somewhat as smooth as playing solo did
nope, lol

BTW, wanna see the inside of a connie main thruster? WELL THERE IT IS

Should have melted the base Retaliator and torpedo bay modules and then P72-LTI'd a military Retaliator. Then you'd have LTI on the torpedo bays as well. =P

Argh, good point. I can still do that through Tuesday morning right? Isnt the sale extended through then? Can I still swap the other modules in and out of the military version?

Patch was going well for a while, but now the instance manager is crashing on them shortly after they start it each time. They're working on a hotfix now.

Edit: well that would explain it, they extended the invites up to to citizen ID 110,000. https://twitter.com/RobertsSpaceInd/status/671496921249288192

Only 340,000 to go until I'm in! I just know the tree which will be going up soon will beat the patch out, and with the only spot or it being in front of my PC I doubt I'm getting a look at this until next year. Especially with the 20 hour download to get through. I guess on the bright side some of the bugs may be fixed at least.

Yeah, the sale is still on until 9AM PST tomorrow, so you can still do it. As for the modules, the bomber version is just as modular. The only difference is it coming with the torpedo modules by default. I mean LTI on the modules vs 2 years is hardly a big deal, but since it's possible for free, why not?

Only 340,000 to go until I'm in!
Pfft, that's nothing. My citizen ID is over 500k!

Can't say I really care though. Xenoblade hits this week, and I don't have the patience to deal with a constantly crashing PTU in the first place. If I wanted to experience crashing and debugging, I'd just start working on some of my own projects. ;)

if "The Gladius is an aging design nearing the end of its life-cycle" what is the direct replacement model?

IIRC, the Hornet F7A became the UEE's primary fighter after the Gladius.

Edit:

Edit: whoops thought green meant occupied not available on the overview, still the Super Hornet pictures massively undersell its included ordinance.

You know, I also forgot that there's a jump drive in the Super Hornet as well that none of the other Hornets have.

Recap of what you get over a normal Hornet:
- ball turret + 2 S2 guns
- nose turret + 2 S1 guns
- 2 missile racks + S1 missiles
- 4 way directional shielding
- jump drive
- second seat

What you lose from a normal Hornet:
- cargo area

All that value being delivered for $55 over a normal Hornet, lol.

Aegis didn't have anything to offer the UEE that is direct competition to the Hornet? looking in the ship lineup right now.. is the Sabre the direct successor to the Gladius for Aegis?

i do not understand why its double the price of a standalone Gladius + Hornet F7A. They have a lot of higher priced ships for every role but not that many lower priced options.

I'm sure Aegis is crying on a bed of money stuffed with the credits from all the sales of practically every other ship the UEE uses, lol. They attempted to get back into the fighter market with the Sabre but I think the Anvil F8 Lightning won the new contract too.

Edit: Also need to mention that the Hornet F7A is not for sale, it's the military Hornet that the Super Hornet F7C-M is based on and has better parts.

i had to google the ship you're talking about.. my Avenger looks like its going to get pummeled when they are flight ready lol

i also had no idea that the ORIG 85X is a thing. what else have i missed?

Well, as far as we know, the F8 Lightning is exclusive to Squadron 42 since I assume the UEE Navy doesn't want civvies to get their hands on that sweetness unlike that shitty old F7 Hornet. (I bet CIG sells it anyway for phat cash.)

But I wants it. That F8 looks sick. I imagine the Sabre is no slouch either.

There are a few ships that CIG have mentioned that exist, but there's no real talk about them really outside of those fluff pieces. We'll see more as Star Citizen unfolds, I imagine. There's probably a few surprises to be had in Squadron 42 as well.

I got in aswell, I believe im 103287

Also melted my delta and bought a upgrade from avenger to the connie tarus and a upgrade from the tarus to the sabre. But Ive not applied them yet as from what I understand if I use the sabre upgrade I wont have a ship left to use as its still in concept?

I think you get a Hornet F7C as a loaner ship. Not very exciting, but certainly better than nothing.

Yeah, with all the patches I've been able to play more than 5 minutes at a time now, which is great. Last session I got into a shooting match with another guy at the FPS station (on the station and in our ships, lol), and that session lasted an hour and a half before I manually exited (for once!). Getting in is the hardest part, because you'll still get CTDs, server full errors, and the like, but once you're in it's smooth sailing now.

Congrats to you.

Thanks, Ive left it to download but its stopped twice now and ive had to restart, fingers crossed third times a charm

Thats great to know, I knew for somethings they gave loan ships, but I didn't want to be stuck with just my omega as im guessing its gonna take them awhile to get around to doing the sabre.

I looked around Reddit and it doesn't look like they currently have a loaner ship for the Sabre yet. I think the best course of action is to melt the upgrade packs and get an Avenger upgrade to something else less than $170 (the Taurus isn't even in 2.0 PTU yet, the Andromeda is) like a Super Hornet or keep the Avenger around, then an upgrade from that to the Sabre until they actually give you a loaner ship.

Hopefully they don't. The UEE needs ships that are distinct from civilian ships in both looks and capability. Else they'll feel like just another band of mercenaries and not a super power. You don't find civilians or even other countries flying something like the F-22. Same concept would go here. The military will keep the best toys for themselves.
