Wow such a beautiful game, I think this is probably the best looking game ever, only U4 gives it a compettition, maybe I'll give U4 the edge because of physics and bigger scale, but QB's effects are second to none so it's a really tough choice.

Either way it's craaaaaaazy what Remedy was able to get out of the XB1, easily one of the best looking games ever.

And I really like the gameplay as well, hopefully it won't be just kill room after kill room, my main concern is the story and the TV show, I think this aspect will be the one that will get most criticized.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.

There are puzzles sprinkled through out apparently, but kill room to kill room sounds like what it's gonna be.

Love all the VFX.

Do they have a picture of the actor as well anywhere? Those teeth could be from any cadaver. lol

From Polygon piece. They scanned in actors. I think the ex-lead was getting a role in game somewhere else too. (I think I remember someone saying that.)

Personally I find the former lead has a 'cooler and slicker' look than the new guy, but that isn't the only consideration. Also, new guy, despite looking like Wayne Rooney, also looks similar to his brother in the game. So there is that.

Also, this game is chock full of visual filters. On the whole, the game is pretty damn creative. I've got respect for Remedy.

Game looks amazing, but since I saw the gameplay videos I have been wondering the following:

People say QB is a very good Max Payne game.

The last Max Payne game was made by Rockstar Games, which had a meh story but gameplay-wise it was perfect

I wonder if Quantum Break will be able to surpass it gameplay-wise

The "pop out of cover" animation is especially weird when you see some of the really really good ones. Weird that they would fuck up something this basic.

Hoping it'll get fixed.

It's a design choice. Either you have more animation frames or you have more direct control as a player. They obviously felt that always being in total control is more important than fluid animations for everything. GTA and AC promote animations and while playing you have that floaty feeling that the characters don't respond to your input as fast as they should.

Eh, I disagree. Never felt like Vanquish was removing control from me, and it has incredible animations for every action.

I'm not asking for Witcher 3 vanilla movement, I'm just asking for more than a teleport. They could also let us start shooting the moment we press the button to pop out of cover. Sure, that would be less realistic, that you can aim perfectly while still getting up, but so is teleporting to a position where you're ready to shoot.

There are some really cool looking effects being used in this game, but I'm still not sold on it. I'm having trouble pinpointing why, but it just... seems really uninteresting to me. That may change later, but watching the footage available at the moment, I really can't muster up any excitement. The enemy encounters are at least looking better than the chore that they were in Alan Wake.

Cadaver? Dictator are you insinuating that there's a conspiracy that full body scans used for games are from dead folks? The Vatican won't stand for this.

... C'mon now...

This game looks fucking fantastic, and it has some of the best visual effects in a video game. But let's not get crazy now.

It definitely looks better than TO, TO looks good obviously but the scale is pathetic, QB looks as good with a much bigger scale, effects, physics, it blows TO 1886.

U4 is a different story, I don't know which looks better, each has their own strong points, but even if U4 looks better, it's by points, not knockout, QB is at the top visually alongside U4 imo.

There's absolutely NOTHING crazy about that statement. Quantum Break has incredible graphics and deserves high praise.

This is actually by design; we transition to aim camera in a few frames so it feels responsive.

Uh you cannot use an example such as Vanquish.
It has pleasing animations but they are not realistic in the least bit, there is no animation priority as that game prioritises control over animation. It's why animations start and finish so quickly (leading to unrealistic animations).

You know why you sometimes get the sliding animation in Uncharted? It's because that game tries to prioritise controls while hitting a middle ground with accuracy of animation and in doing so it will at times speed up the animations resulting in a sliding appearance.

The entire reason completely realistic animation lead to "bad" controls is because you cannot cancel, undo or speed up an animation that is already happening and as such you have to wait until it's over completely for the new input to be registered. And because these games have characters moving at a realistic pace the time it takes for these animations is long.

Edit:
And there you go, the speculation was confirmed.

Gonna have to agree with that. From what i've seen so far of U4 now, it's still on another level. From the faces, the hair, the environments, how open ended that E3 environment etc. But we'll see when both games are out. Both looks fantastic, but right now i still give the nod to U4.

Was disappointed when they switched MC. True Jack looked and felt real with his deliveries. New Jack looks dull and fake.

Same here man. For some reason the first dude looked a lot cooler with the leather jacket and everything. I wouldn't call the new one fake though. Isn't he also a pretty decent actor?

Happy this is still in the game. Because it looks awesome. Hopefully alot of sections like this next to shooting and platforming.

The visuals and effects are one the best I've ever seen, but the combat doesn't actually look too good. It has a very stiff feel to it. Like, it doesn't seem to flow very well. The action in Max Payne games was so good because it had a good flow to it and it felt very "reactive". Totally different games but Remedy absolutely knows how to do action that is both stylish and fun to play. The moment-to-moment gameplay seen here isn't pulling me in no matter how hard I try to like it. If it gets substantially better with advanced timey wimey hijinks then good, but what I've seen so far isn't making me want to actually play it. I do want to watch it though.

Yeah exactly. If it was only going to be non stop shooting it would get boring quick. Unless the game is called Gears of War, it doesn't bore in that. But a nice variety of different gameplay elements is good.

I know it's all indoors and tight corridors but that looks absolutely stunning.

Can't wait to see it in person on my own TV.

It looks good, but not everything in that footage looked amazing. In the beginning of the video when we see their faces it doesn't look that impressive, almost a bit flat on their faces but mostly it looks great. But personally i am more impressed with outdoor footage actually.

Too bad there are no bullet holes when hitting enemies. I loved that in Max Payne 3 for example.

Was all of the footage pulled from the opening act or is it spread across the game?

1st act (but not the opening level to keep the surprise)
2nd act's beginning which is the Transformer Yard fight you have seen. That's where the combat gets a whole lot more trickier and there's a big story beat there, and thats why the demo ends there. To show you a glimpse of awesomeness and leave you wanting more.

TBH mate, Max Payne 3 was only flawed because the level/encounter design was so poor. The handful of combat encounters we've seen in these Quantum Break videos shows encounter design far above and beyond anything in Max Payne 3. Indeed, closer to Max Payne 2, with more interesting enemy angles and spawn points as well as more open environments.

The "pop out of cover" animation is especially weird when you see some of the really really good ones. Weird that they would fuck up something this basic.

I think this might be exacerbated by the player being shit and tapping the button repeatedly.

I for one am overjoyed that it clearly doesn't have a hard-lock cover system and instead it's soft-lock, which lets you move away from/around cover while crouched without any restrictions. I'm amazed no action games have taken this approach, it's so clearly the best way. (TLoU had it this way but it was mainly a stealth game.) The biggest offender is GTA 4 and 5 which lock you to cover even though every gunfight in those games is 360-degrees so you always get shot in the back/side and can't move away from/around cover easily.

The graphic for the projectiles looks a bit strange. Yellow and polygonal. Is this an effect of video compression, the time compression ability?

Remedy are ultra slick with how they frame scenes. I really like how they transition to gameplay.

It definitely looks better than TO, TO looks good obviously but the scale is pathetic, QB looks as good with a much bigger scale, effects, physics, it blows TO 1886.

I don't think it looks better than TO up close, the lighting especially and the way the materials interact with light in TO is just incredible. The scale and crazy effects give QB the edge for me though, so I agree with you on that.

I do think there are a number of upcoming games that can compete with this and U4 visually. Detroit comes to mind. The trailer was probably downsampled, but the city scenes in particularly looked at least as impressive to me as the outdoor scenes in QB. I also think FFVIIR looks goddamn stunning. Like maybe better than Samaritan tech demo stunning. I feel it is underrated on here visually.

Considering we keep getting told by every man and his dog that Xbox is weak hardware, can't do 1080p etc, I thought that looked incredible. The lighting looks a step above anything on XB1 yet.The colour palette reminds me of Mirrors Edge too. I thought it was very nice.

Gonna check out more outdoors segments.

Something about bullet projectiles really gets me. Max Payne, SuperHOT, where you get to see the trajectory all the way is fascinating.
