What I really hate about the "make and support your own" shit is two fold.

1) We already do.

2) We don't and usually won't get nearly as much support. Especially not to get franchises like Bond.


So we'll be stuck waiting for Unicorns instead of consumers getting what they want. I get why black creators push it; they want more fucking money and far less corporate influence. So do I. They want work that better represents us. So do I.

But I can't sit here and act like there's no man behind the curtain with all that talk.

It's been awesome so far. Maybe the best original kid's show I've seen. The treatment this series has gotten isn't right. The nanomachines episode was way too ahead of its time, with dialogue about proteins and enzymes in a kid's show, and the whole show is like that. It rarely feels like the show thinks its audience is stupid.... yet.

In addition, black creators/artist have their own creation and ideas that they want pushed that can't necessarily be done in a "Bond universe" or in the shoes of an already established story/character. Not even necessarily works that "represent the black community" but their own ideas that no one has ever thought of.

That said, the trend in Hollywood right now is looking for established characters and franchises based off of old TV shows, comics, and books and most of the works these films are based on don't have a lot of minority characters, so changing characters is the easiest solution for better representation in this space.

Back in my day...

I hate what radio programmers have done to music. When I was coming up, it was nothing to be jamming some Robert Plant, Led Zepplin, The Police, Rolling Stones, etc. at high volume on a Sunday afternoon while chilling at the car wash. Nowadays you would get accused of being "less black" if you did that. It's stupid. Good music is good music. It was a sight to see all these Oldsmobiles with candy paint and rims playing 'King of Pain' at max volume.

I was in Strokers (an all black strip club) way back in the day, and it was jam packed and when their headliner White Chocolate took center stage; they played "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins and I kid you not everybody in their started singing the lyrics in unison while booties were shaking, asses were clapping, and money was raining. It was magical. It was at that moment I realized the world is gonna be alright.

I may be telling on myself too much, but hell...

"In the Air Tonight" was a Black strip club classic. It may still be, but I don't go anymore. The song is dope as hell, the club got hyped, and getting a table dance to that would turn out to be a mini-relationship based on how long the song was. But the DJ wouldn't play it for any girl, only the "stars" got that song.

I do wish more Black people were more open to different music. I remember Slim Thug posting his workout playlist full of Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Rolling Stones among alot of rap songs. His fans were tripping out. He explained, good music is good music. So many people miss out on good shit trying to fit into a category. I took a girl to an opera once. Her only previous exposure to the theater was Tyler Perry plays. She instantly became a fan.

Where are you getting this black people aren't open to different music from? Obviously anecdotal evidence, but I've never seen or experienced that. Obviously we prefer some melody, harmony, and a good bass line so we can dance, but on the low niggaz be playing white people's shit just like white folks be playing our shit.

Your profession/major/career interest - At home dad who will rejoin the workforce in 4 years. My dream job would be producing music, but I have no musical training and am half-way to the grave at this point lol.
Your religious affiliation - Agnostic who does not believe in religion. Though I understand why people are religious, I'm grossed out by how pervasive the unthinking, unquestioning, bigoted, sexist/patriarchal mindset is amongst my relatives.
Hobbies - Gaming, Travel, History, Seeking knowledge about the world around me.
KFC, Popeye's, Churches, or Bojangles? - Only tried the first two so Popeyes. I think KFC may have changed its chicken over the years or something, not as enamored by it like when I was a kid.

He might have had a similar experience to me. Growing up in school people would give you shit for listening to rock or other shit calling it "white music". In the case of Rock I find that funny considering black people created it. My cousin got the same shit for listening to the other radio station in town.

Lol. Yeah I'm still young but I've been on the heavier side most my life. I'm working out and eating better in recent years but dunno how much damage I've done in my youth. I'll just be surprised and thankful if I hit 70+. Knowing I'm halfway or a lil over the hump has given me a sense of urgency and my children have given me purpose.
