Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
For those that haven't seen it, here is direct-feed footage of the first 17 minutes from Gamespot. In typical boring Gamespot-fashion, this playthrough has zero exploring, and the player simply pushes forward through the quests. But, his/her straight path does offer us more glimpses at the old man, a great cinematic shot of Hyrule castle, and what lies beyond the plateau.

Less than 2% of the game they kept saying.

After a couple days of awe I'm starting to get a little nervous that maybe they really haven't done much work on the other areas or towns/dungeons, and just showed off what was done. I know it's Nintendo and they rarely do that but I just can't shake this feeling that we haven't seen any of that not because it's that much of a spoiler, but because it isn't really there or ready to be shown in an impressive capacity yet.

They have less than a year left to get this out by March, I really hope it doesn't get delayed further.
It's been in development in some fashion since 2011. The content is likely close to done and the game is probably just being refined until the NX launch.

More than enough time for an experienced team with this level of talent to come up with a big world with lots of compelling content.

Nintendo knows what they're doing and this is the one of the most important games in their long history. It's on par in terms of significance with everything else they ever made. They know the stakes and won't fuck this up.

I absolutely love the voice of the guide who is definitely not Zelda. There's just something about it that resonates with me.

Awesome. I was looking for an HQ version of that Plateau wall.

I know that you can no longer find hearts to heal your life, you need to find food (and preferably cook with it). But is there any indication if there will still be heart containers/pieces?

I hope so. I know they are attempting to shake it up, and the game sounds awesome in general, but I feel some things need to always be there. Heart containers/pieces is one of them.

Okay I just found something that I don't think has been mentioned:

This mountain appears both in the trailer and in the Gamestop stream, but I just noticed that it looks like there's a huge spherical chunk taken out of it! Really very cool looking, and I can't wait to visit that mountain!

I know it's likely going to be 6ish years between Skyward Sword and this game, but we don't really know for sure when they settled on this type of game, this specific world, when they started filling the world with things... etc.

I am as hopeful as the next guy about this game, it's just a nagging worry.

I know it's just the demo and you will get the item a different way in the full game, but I really like that Link's response is "Fuck you, give me the damn item."

The only indication is that in some of the Treehouse demos, Link had more than 3 hearts. In particular, I know there's a Guardian gif somewhere where Link takes a laser to the face and loses like 7.5 hearts.

Chances are we won't even learn what caused that hole, it will be up to interpretation.

That's actually due to a temporary heart buff, from eating one of those skewer dishes. I expect there to be actual heart pieces which do increase your standard heart capacity, rather than give you special temporary hearts.

Calamity Ganon just took a large bite out of it.

Almost sounds like Camilla Luddington, aka reboot Lara Croft. Especially in the sequence on top of the tower.

I hope she's not the only voice acted role. I'd like to see all major cutscenes feature voice acting.

This and that other mountain that seems that was cut in half that has been showed all over the place:

Make me think that whatever happened in Hyrule was really f*cked up.

Look like there was a battle between some 2 crazy powerful forces.. like madara and harashima.. just recklessly fighting splitting earth and mountains in half.

Man that would be crazy if the final battle is like that, you just strong as hell doing all kind of stuff

This has me really excited for this game. Like really excited. More excited for a game than i've been in years.

Did anyone catch the item description for the sapphire? Or remember what segment it was?

Apparently rubies have the power of fire within them (first segment day 2), almost sounds like it could be used to craft a fire rod, so I would like to double check if the sapphire has the power of whatever in it.

I really hope the timeline convergence is somehow real and there will be sprinkled in locations from every zelda game.

And then from this point forward we just stay on the one timeline.

I REALLY wonder how towns are linked to the story has they have been... "openly secretive" about them. It seems they hold an important link to the setting/mechanics/story.

I was thinking the exact same thing when watching the live stream. The control and movement have that vibe Mario 64 has/had. A level of freedom and that sense of character movement being a natural extension of your hand, etc. Able to pull off those crazy combos/moves...Where the game is fun to play simply because of character control and the environment interaction.

That's the vibe I'm feeling, yeah. It just looks genuinely fun to play around in the environment, and the physics in play turn the organic environments into a giant playground. I think the minimalistic music and sounds of nature also remind me of Mario 64's castle hub.

Oh man, if there is time travel in this game (who am I kidding, it's 3D Zelda, 3/5 games have focused on time travel) I would LOVE if we could go back in time to see this battle happen.

Maybe Link with the Giant's Mask fights Ganon and their battle decimates the landscape...

Oh god, or even better- Fierce Deity Link vs Calamity Ganon!

They mention in the stream that you can collect heart containers and come back to fight guardians when you have more hearts

It's funny. I've been going through my old posts since I know I've written about my desires for Zelda in the past.

Me from 2006 prior to Twilight Princes said:
Assuming that this isn't simply a Wind Waker-esque overworld with empty land substituting the empty water, this is awesome. This goes back to the whole original Zelda and LTTP style of having a living, breathing overworld and dungeons and caves peppered all throughout as opposed to the "hub" style of OoT and MM.

My favorite memories of playing the original Zelda was from just messing around in the overworld exploring the vastness of it, or burning a bush or blowing up a rock, and being so shocked and excited when a passage appeared and I heard that classic chime... I really hope that TP repeats these moments. :)
Unfortunately, TP did end up being more hub style and largely without much to do.

Me from 2009 on my desires for the Wii Zelda game said:
1) The Overworld: This is my big one. When I was a kid playing the original Zelda, what captured me was the absolute sense of exploration; wandering from screen to screen, not knowing what lay next. Sure, there were some limitations in the exact routes (not having a raft/footladder, etc.) but for the most part, the whole map was accessible right from the beginning. This meant easy areas next to the first temple, and areas like Death Mountain where you got your ass handed to you... and the only way to find out your limitations was to go to those areas.

This has not been captured in a Zelda game, probably since LTTP and I would argue that even there, there were some serious limitations d/t the light/dark mechanic. This was distilled even further in OoT, MM, and TP. Essentially, the Overworld is still not only a hub, but you're constantly ushered in which direction to go. What I want more then ANYTHING is a fully breathing overworld; I want to be able to go into areas where I shouldn't go to yet because I'm not strong enough. I want to have that sense of exploration, and trepidation going into an area. I want to be gently led so I feel like I found it myself as opposed to having a character say "YOU'RE GOING TO THE ICE TEMPLE NOW."

I think WW actually did this pretty well; the Overworld was huge, and I did feel like I was exploring. Unfortunately, the challenge wasn't really there, and uh... the entire map was water. I would LOVE to explore a Hyrule full of land, lakes, snowy peaks, deserts, forests, multiple villages, ruins and oh yes... palaces that was comparable to the size of TWW. That would seriously be my dream game.

Other things:

2) Utility of Items: TP introduced some really cool items... the few times you could use them. What use was the Spinner aside from using it in the Arbiter's Grounds, a few times in the Overworld for a few pieces of heart, and the last temple or so? the Dominion Rod? I'm glad that they introduced so many, but I want them to be more then glorified keys to get to the next part in the game. Hell emulate LTTP and introduce some completely optional items to the mix.

3) Music: Orchestrated, and let Kondo and Yokota do it. The dynamic music thing was worked around in Mario Galaxy (Bowser battles, going underwater, etc.) And even if it isn't exactly what they want, I think that they give more credit to it then how actually effective it is. This shouldn't be an issue at this point.

4) Voice Acting: Like most people's wishes, everyone but Link I would hope.

5) Temples: This is the one area where I think Nintendo is on top of their game. If they keep up the quality that they had in TP, I'd be happy.

Finally:
Me in 2012 after discussing with someone else about how the "open world" Zelda-1 game wasn't ever going to come out due to the direction the series had taken said:
Oh and no crap it's not coming. I'd be extremely surprised and thrilled if the next Zelda game deviates from an empty hub, largely inaccesible areas until you get an item that's essentially a key, and the "collect 3 things, something happens, collect 5 more things, win" formula

Needless to say, Zelda: BotW could be the Zelda game I've been waiting for my entire life. Since E3 2014, I've been expecting the worst but hoping for the best, and everything that I've seen manages to get that 6 year old kid in me absolutely thrilled. I just still can't believe that it's happening.

The entire dialog for that sections goes like this:

I haven't watched the whole stream, but are you telling me that every single thing we saw in Treehouse was in the demo section, and a character tells you the Calamity Ganon seen in the trailer is your first main objective after leaving the plateau?

That implies this game is beyond fucking huge, beyond what I could even fathom for a Zelda game. WOW.

Any confirmation on number of dungeons or size of dungeons? Any dungeon details? What about underwater?

Seems so. That and there is additional content on the Plateau that was removed to avoid story spoilers.

So, not only is the Plateau seemingly the "tutorial" stage, it's also not wholly intact for demo reasons.

I hope Nintendo releases this demo to the public at some point in the coming months. Hell package it with an NX preorder or something like that.

Did anyone mention yet that you can beat the game right from the start? I read that in an IGN article yesterday and thought that was pretty major, but haven't seen it mentioned on GAF anywhere.
