My coworker thinks I'm stalking her because I found her home address on a website

Gaf loves to make jumps.

I spent seven seconds adding her name of several to a site I found and used several whole minutes one day months ago; Yesterday while asking my birthday I remembered her birth month since its the same as mine. No other information was retained - I couldnt even spell her last name right now if asked - and the only interaction or thought of this girl is the brief moments we pass at work and I help clear her tables.

The story isnt as exciting as some seem to think it to be but as with GAF and life the story we make in our heads is a lot more fun.

The stalking accusations are hyperbolic, don't worry about them. I hope at the very least, you've learned not to admit things to people that they will surely see as creepy.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
What are the odds of OP hounding the victim to believe him that he is not a stalker. Unwittingly making him even more creepy and stalkerish.

I still can't believe OP's name is jaded and I'm not buying the story that someone told him about the bathroom conversation. I bet he was eavesdropping.

Amazing! The thread keeps going.

In all honesty l think we have been a bit thin on backfires on here in awhile, so one that comes even within the same solar system is seen as fair game.

Sunhil's stuff is just world class though and is really worth the OP not quite being that bad to see.

Yall. I don't have time to catch up outside of the first post and Sunhi's legendary post.

Has there been anything else of note that happened?

and yea OP. I have no idea why the hell you told her that lol.

You still dont get it. Normal people don't spend time searching coworker's details from several sites.

Cmon man....who does that? Creeps. That's who. That's you. Don't do creepy shit. It's not ok.

Wanna know her details? Ask. Her reaction should kinda indicate the same.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.

That's all fine. But then you told her you did that. She now feels like you're a stalker, if I was her boss and she told me that you found her birth date online but that she'd never shared it with you, I'd tell her to stay away from you and let me know if you do anything else that's weird. You explaining your side wouldn't necessarily change my mind, because if you were stalking her you, of course, would have thought up other reasons you would have that information. It wouldn't make you look better. It wouldn't make her less uncomfortable. I'd be planning for worst case scenarios, where you're a crazy person, as soon as I found out about any of this.

You shouldn't have any personal information about your coworkers that they didn't share with you. That you do sends up red flags for those around you.

I guess the way I would characterize the thread is that there is a consensus that telling her was wrong and some debate over looking up the info in the first place. I would say even looking up the info was creepy since (a) the specific info is kind of weird things to want to know about a co-worker and (b) he had just asked her out on a date and been turned down.

A.Public info.

B. She was exhausted from 13 hrs of work the night i asked and left my number; The website I found sometime that week and thought of her strange last name as something to test the sites abilities. My mom is the only of a dozen random people I couldnt find. I was on the site maybe ten minutes and retained zero info beyond this persons birth month we shared.

She seemed receptive of me leaving my number, never turned me down outright, and we talk at work friendly all the time in the three months since that moment.

We keep sheets around with everyones phone numbers from Hotschedules, which is normal in restaurants. The information found was on a public Florida database. Where exactly does my employer have authority over me using a free public database? No time, effort or money was involved.

My image and job are fine; I may explain the whole thing stemmed from her small talk asking if I was single moments into meeting me, but keeping my mouth shut seems best according to consensus. I doubt Ill even work with her for several days but Im sure we will be fine: Everyone from the girl she told to one of her best friends there knows Im a bit rough sometimes but harmless.

I think people here don't actually really think it's that creepy, but they kind of want to make it into a bigger thing than it is so it would be more entertaining for the thread.

So....she didn't give you her phone number, you got it from information the company compiles for the purpose of scheduling?

I left her my number months ago, and on the website only needed her first and last name; We have never talked via number and like her home adress I never retained the information just that I could get the information so easily.

People getting numbers off hotschedules to text someone to pick up or switch shifts is normal though.

Overreactions in response to comments and not based on the info Ive said are clearly proof of that: Such as the posts directly before this one.

The point of the subject was to laugh at my expense so no harm done. Life goes on.

I would feel creepy looking up someones address that I know well, let alone some girl I just asked out. It's not normal to have looked this information up, and the just testing her weird last name thing doesn't really sound that convincing. I'm sure it was all harmless but it is still really weird.

My first girlfriend was at 17 and we dated four years. Around two years in I had a roadtrip with a crush (brothers wifes niece) and wanted to make a move. I spent two hours on the phone with my girlfriend breaking up. Minutes later I tried to kiss my crush and got rejected bad. The next few days were awkward.

My girlfriend and I got back together the next day.

My crush greeted me years later at a mall excited to see me.

Im awkward and weird sometimes. Life is akward and weird sometimes. We move on.

Yeah. People are being hyperbolic about stalking but you messed up when you brought attention to it. As I'm sure anyone who has ever met someone new has googled them.

Hopefully you weren't interested. Also, I'm assuming your coworkers wont make it too awkward since you've worked there longer and I'm assuming they are friendly with you and more likely to let you off with just some minor teasing instead of making your the office leper lol

Did we ever get an explanation on how he knew what was going on in the bathroom?
Yup, he's friends with some shady NSA guy who owed him a favor. He proceeded to bug her phone so they'd be square. Of course, he didn't tell her this, or so I hope.

Dude, even after all this, do you admit you were acting like a creep? Especially with getting her number from the company? Like, I've done that in the hospital where our staff have their phone numbers on the rota so we can text or call about shifts and other business, but it never gets personal. At least glad to hear you didn't keep that number for an advantage to date her or whatever.

So, now your reputation at the workplace is that you're "rough sometimes but harmless", likely due to this incident. Hopefully, you never do something like this again and use this as a teachable moment.

Uh huh. Yeah. So you haven't changed since you were 17 in this kind of weird behaviour towards girls?

Bruh. You should have just played it off like "I know. I can tell we're the same sign." What in the world were you thinking...

Thank god someone linked me to this thread and the Sunhi masterpiece that is associated with it.

All the joking aside — Jaded, take all that examinatory and cross referencing ability and please use it on some introspection.

There are only so many times people can write things off as being awkward and weird. Thankfully it didn't turn into anything serious, the girl doesn't need a restraining order on you and your work reputation isn't completely destroyed.

While there is a lot of mocking in the thread, there's also some legit advice in here. Please learn from all of this and become a better person from the experience.
