Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal delayed to remove "Intimacy Mode" from PS4 version in the West; Steam version is intact

Xseed announced today that the Intimacy Mode in the upcoming release of Senran Kagura Burst Renewal is being removed from the PS4 version, thus causing a delay of release. The PC version will have the mode in it however, and they'll release at the same time.

Could this be Sony stepping in again just as they did for Omega Labyrinth Z?

This sucks, but I was always going to get this game on PC anyway, so this doesn't affect me.

This is why I love that Japanese developers are flocking to the PC. No matter what is done to their games, it can either be undone, or not be done to the PC at all.

Welp, I knew this was just going to get worse. Looks like I'm not buying a PS5. Hell, I might just transition to an XboneX and abandon the PS4.

I never cared much about this game to be honest but I hate censorship so if this game gets reöeased uncensored in Germany on Steam I will support it.

First Super Seducer, then Omega Labyrinth, and now forcing games to remove features from games despite they were in previous games that were already on there platform. Sony Justice Warrior is in full effect now.

So, from what I just quickly googled. Sony didnt want you being able to see cartoon characters that look like children getting their tits out. I bet the games got a real great story and thats why people buy it. Imagine getting a fuckin hard over a cartoon lmao.

Yet they had no problem allowing this mode in previous games that's already on PS4....... They also wouldn't allow Super Seducer on there platform either despite being real people. Plus Nintendo allowed Senran Kagura Refle on there platform, which is basically this mode expanded into a full game. It's almost like it has nothing to do with the designs of the character but Sony with women in general. Hmmm!

So I took a big axe to my current PS4 wishlist and went from 42 to games to 13 although I may drop a few more. I may sign up for PS+ a few more times to take advantage of the discounts to finish all that off but otherwise im done being a subscriber.

Sony and Nintendo are really making me sick of video games all over again and I doubt there is going to be another miracle like the Wii to keep me from bailing. I may be purely retro in the near future.

I can see the chant already, ANY SOCIETY THAT ALLOWS THESE GAME MODES IS SICK! That's great why don't you go over to Japan tell them how fucked up their morals are then stop consuming every other good or product to leave their shores. That includes getting rid of your Playstation this minute because guess what they support this content in other regions when you ain't having a bitch about it.

As always, vote with your wallet. Get it on PC. If you really want to play it on PS4 that badly, then I guess import the Japanese or Asian versions. The Asian version is Chinese sub only.

Crap news, as someone who's a fan of the series but doesn't support Steam, not to mention the precedent this and other situations might be setting for Sony's platform. Maybe I'll import a Japanese copy, especially if they eventually follow suit and release a bargain edition. Potentially more concerning is what this could mean for Senran Kagura 7.

People buy the games for the fanservice and for the semi-mindless musou combat. Its fun to pass time wiping out armies of enemies with fancy fast-paced attacks.
The games do have some interesting character backstories though, and I don't mean that in the fanservicey sense. The game's tone can jump pretty quickly and seeing some of the trauma that these girls have suffered and why they are shinobi as well as how they interact with each other can be interesting.

Thanks! The good news is is that Senran Kagura has a significantly bigger fanbase than OLZ, so there's hope I think provided that the fandom stirs the pot.

The thing about being the market leader is that (Arrogant) Sony can do what it wants, including censorship and treating third-party developers like shit. What are devs gonna do? Xbox isn’t really an option. Maybe they go to Nintendo, but comparatively weak hardware holds development back and causes compromises to be made.

Maybe these devs should tell Sony to fuck off and go PC-only instead. At some point, it gets tiring being told that you have to cut content because alleged social justice. Hell, just keep the games in Japan. The only way to anger consumers enough to get them to try and put Arrogant Sony in its place is to withhold games and (as XSEED is doing already) cite the platform holder. Getting shitty, incomplete or censored versions of games should have died out when Jack Fucking Thompson stopped being relevant.

As far as I'm aware a platform holder can demand arbitrary changes to a game at any time. No law compels a platform holder to allow a game to release or remain on their platform.

What exactly do you think jumping to an xbone will do for you? Not only do they not allow these sort of things on there but they don't even get the game period. If this is making you sick of Nintendo and Sony and you're going to go MS you're jumping out the frying pan and into the fire. You're better off getting a PC where there is no store curation at all.

Mods on PC version add various skin textures, body modificatio sand accessories that bring the game closer to an animated lesbian hardcore experience, even changing the animations in intimacy mode.

Sony does not want to get associated with any of this, fearing that mods could get transfered over to a hacked console version

I think you're confused about the meaning of arrogant. If they were arrogant they wouldn't care that a particular market might find an intimacy mode featuring sexual assault offensive :). Trying to avoid that is just the opposite of arrogant, in fact.

Cancelled my preorder. I don't play much on PC but I'll buy it there for support.

WTH happened to Sony this year? Where did this new policy come from? Who thinks this is a good idea? Nintendo isn't doing it anymore and neither is Steam so why did Sony pick now to censor games on their platform that weren't censored last year? It sounds like what's being censored is similar to what was in Peach Beach Splash, right?

This is the fourth time a game has been messed with this year that I can count. First it was Super Seducer, then Omega Labyrinth Z, then Nekopara vol.1 was delayed and never mentioned again from what I can see and now this. It always seems to be a last minute thing, too. It's so sloppy. Blocking a game already rated by the ESRB? Delaying a game to censor it? Spending money to lose money, I guess.

It's a policy for things that's never been a issue or got any backlash despite already being on there platform, which goes with what I said about it having nothing to do with ages or designs since it also effected Super Seducer which Sony wouldn't let be released either. What about it being typical Sony bullshit is confusing?

Yet Nintendo avoided that despite a Senran Kagura game is on Switch with basically the same thing but maybe even worse, and there was no backlash over the 2 previous SK games having it. It's Sony bullying publishers again, just like they always have done since the PS1 era with some BS policy (like they had a English dub required policy for awhile), since they're the market leader again, so it is arrogance, just like cross play.

I would love to know, too. As far as I can tell, there is no statement or anything, just games getting blocked right before release or delayed like SK here with the publisher mentioning the platform holder wished it. I guess that means Sony was going to block SK games if they don't remove content that was in previous SK games which must mean there is a new policy in there somewhere.

Considering Polygon has written articles about the violence in TLOUPII, DOOM and now Tomb Raider (and probably others I don't know about) I don't think the people who get mad at games are okay with anything, really.
