I really love Dunkirk and it's a great HDR showcase film but it's definitely not a traditional war film. Like all of Nolan's films, it's unique in the way it takes a central idea and makes you think about it in a different way. It's very much something like a personal experiences suspense thriller which just happens to occur during a large-scale battle, if that makes any sense. It was pretty popular though.

The new trailer looks great! Can't wait to see this movie in theaters. That firefight in the classical concert looks especially interesting because it seems like an unusual setting. But then it is an unusual premise to which I'm getting Inception vibes and I love it.

I agree. Too many “artistic” choices. Minimal dialogue, PLUS time jumps, PLUS IMAX shots, PLUS never showing the Nazis. It gave me a headache. It’s the only Nolan film I dislike.
I feel the same way about 1917. The single shot gimmick is really good for some scenes. But boy does it stick out in other scenes.

Finished movie will get released soon, no worries. More worried about many current productions on hold right now. Gonna be massive gaps next two years in upcoming release schedules b/c original planned releases aren't even finished/ready. I.e Mission Impossible, John Wick and more.

Went yesterday. Movie is legit. I liked it more than Inception. It lacks a bit of personality as some critics say, which is true. But I really enjoyed it. Branagh knocked it out. Washington was solid and so was Pattinson. Looked up a recap this morning and I understand the movie. Its not that hard to understand really.

no specific spoilers
really enjoyed it and thought that it may have lacked character moments, it was all about pace and time (funnily enough). The movie doesn’t hang around and there aren’t many bits that don’t hold your attention.
Didn’t find it as confusing as I feared, once you stop trying to analyse what’s happening and just go with it. I would say that working out who was who and on what ‘side’ and how it was playing out was difficult, during the battle royale. but that was more down to how it was shot and everyone still looking the same !!! (And my brain doing somersaults over what had played out)
but a really enjoyable movie and as someone who didn’t like Dunkirk. A much more ‘on form’ Chris Nolan film and worth seeing on the big screen and no spoilers

But I may just have been missing that little slice of normality, that going to the cinema used to be (Screening barely a tenth full, if that and by design. Masks on the whole time, but most folk didn’t bother once the movie started)

Sad to say I didn't really enjoy it. Soundtrack was fantastic and there's plenty of cool setpieces, but I was hoping Nolan wouldn't resort to this modern way of rapid cutting and let his scenes breathe a bit. There are good actors in this film but you can't tell because nobody is allowed to act out a scene properly.
Also, I don't get the hype for this Washington fella. He's Denzel without the charisma.

Oh it was great! Cinematography was on point, the idea was executed pitch perfect for me.
I know people always for the lazy 'cerebral' hype/critique but after memento, prestige, inception and tenet - Nolans films have such a unique idea that's executed so well.. defo worth a watch.

This was like a really bad Bond movie with illogical scifi thrown in, acted by a bunch of uncharismatic people with zero enthusiasm. Definitely Nolan's worst movie.
EDIT: Well, not that the scifi was all out illogical stuff, but the concept made it so that there was no tension in the scenes whatsoever. The only thing you were looking for was to see who might've that and that guy been earlier but even then you guessed it right immediately.
This movie kinda proved for me that any fantasies about time as its own dimension and what possibly could be done with it are based on nothing more than paradoxes and impossibilities.

Definitely enjoyed it, but left feeling fairly indifferent. I will say the film is put together very well as a whole, all the time inversion mechanics and such ended up making as much sense as they could have, but it lacked emotion and tension. Especially the last big setpiece, while cool, had no tension to it because of the mechanics of the Time inversion. The dialogue was pretty awkward at times, but the actors made the most of it.
The opening scene at the opera house was great. Immediately set the tone for the sound design, which has been complained about by many but I dug it. Super hard hitting like it put you right in there.
If you had trouble following Inception you might struggle here, it leaves you guessing for a good bit but by the end I had a good grasp on things.

Man, the soonest I can see this is Monday, hard for me to read other people's takes while I can only wait. For the record the only Nolan film I don't consider great is Following, and I consider his filmography starting with The Dark Knight to be one masterpiece after another. So, I kinda expect to love the film and that i'll have less trouble with the flaws some others see in it. I also am eager to be confused.

Enjoyable enough but the gimmick looks quite comedic and goofy (objects travel backwards through time) while being treated super serious.
Voices are also whisper quiet in some scenes while music is crazy loud.

Yeah, the problem definitely was that the concept just didn't work in giving people something to be tense about. The moment you understood nothing really matters, every ounce of potential tension was gone. The only thing to watch was any potential camera/acting tricks and even those left me very cold.
And yeah, the dialogue was pretty corny at times and for me the actors didn't help it at all. The third guy at the end was good. And I kinda thought Branagh and the woman did an ok job even though their plotline was one big cliche. But the main character and his buddy were wooden as hell and didn't have chemistry between each other at all even though I saw how much the makers tried to show them as fun to follow.
The opening scene was the best scene. I think the whole movie should've been in one place, maybe in the opera house. It would've been so much better if the whole thing would've been about people getting in the middle of the time inversion situation and the movie would've been about figuring out what the hell is happening instead of the film telling you what's happening from the get go.
Imagine the film being about them being at the opera house and then suddenly seeing another group of themselves doing things backwards and them wondering what the hell is happening and the explanation given in the end of the movie but the movie being about them trying to figure it out in one rather small place.
The movie kinda actually felt like the less-exciting sequel for a high concept scifi thriller.

Saw it last night on a quality IMAX screen and thought it was ok at best. I like Christopher Nolan (especially Memento, The Prestige and The Dark Knight) but would say this is easily his most disappointing film.
First of all it suffers from the same issue that has plagued pretty much every Nolan film since Inception - lots of inaudible dialogue, terrible sound mixing, excessively loud soundtrack. How does this keep on happening? I know it's not just me, everyone I went with complained that they couldn't hear what was going on and the plot was difficult to follow as a result.
The camera work/visuals are great and I always appreciate that Nolan uses as many practical effects as possible for his action sequences but I'll be honest, I wasn't really following or invested in the plot at all which made all of the action seem inconsequential and hollow. The film also felt too long and I was desperate for it to end.
For me personally this film is all flash and gimmick with little/no substance (probably because I couldn't hear the dialogue?)
For his next film I'd love for Nolan to go back to something smaller scale. Like a short, tight thriller with an interesting concept.

Didn't like this at all. It felt like Nolan was trying to recapture Inception, which is my favourite film of his, but unlike in that film where the gimmick serves the purposes of the plot and the character (Cobb having to overcome the trauma of causing the death of his wife and losing his children), here everything seems to have been retrofitted around a time-manipulation conceit which is never as clear as it needs to be (Inception communicated a potentially complicated idea with near-perfect clarity) or as interesting as it needs to be. All the things that need to be explained never are, while the minutia is given endless dialogue scenes where half of what is said is inaudible through bad sound mixing (and an exhausting faux-Zimmer score), actors speaking too fast or through masks (far worse than Bane). It's as though Nolan is trying to confuse the audience to cover for how little substance there is to his central idea.
In order to accommodate the time-manipulation conceit, which even Nolan doesn't seem sure how it works, the over-arcing plot is incredibly basic and filled with pointless, episodic busywork: again, in Inception, the big set-pieces grew organically from what the characters had to do to achieve their goal. Here, Nolan sends the characters on these short side-quests in order to (badly) justify, for instance, crashing a Boeing 747 into an airport. I like it. Of course, it is typical Nolan's movie trying to confuse the audience and add mystery layer for the plot twist.
I feel it like Inception's spiritual successor (of course Inception is better)
Action wise is ok and pretty good visually (I still think Bane's attack on the stock exchange is still awesome for Nolan's movie) but the 747 scene is cool in my book.
Performance-wise; of course, Kenneth Branagh did a great job.
I am not familiar with John David Washington performance other than Blackklansman but he did a bit like young Denzel when he speaks.
Worth to repeat imo.

Just saw it tonight and loved it. The whole time element is very confusing because it makes me question things in the past effecting the future even more than a usual time travel movie does. Guess it's because the past and the present/future are tied much closer together than in usual films of this type.
Yeah some of the voices were hard to hear but not 90% of it. I loved the sound design overall. Very high concept movie which makes you think about time differently.
My family didn't like it much.

Both Interstellar and Inception were pretentious yawn-fests for me. Both supposed "deep" films only because of their complex "physics" and rules, wasting at least 3/4 of the running time explaining things to the audience, in a "look how smart this movie is" way.

Watched it yesterday. Superb soundtrack, truly amazing.
As for the movie itself. I did enjoy it i guess...it's so much of a brainfuck i still need to wrap my head around what just happened. Robert pattinson was a nice surprise, his performance was great. The action scenes (especially the final scene) were really underwhelming in my opinion, it was really hard to actually see the enemies and i never saw somene getting shot. However the overall premise is pretty cool so i'd recommend watching it.
