If this gen is anything to go by, the exclusives are the only real things that can take advantage of the full potential of a console's hardware. We've seen what devs can do on the PS4 already looking better than most games out there, just imagine how good they'll look on PS5.


Quality > quantity. It has Spider-Man and Demon's Souls, it's already the best launch lineup since the PS2.

Spider-Man MM isn't an exclusive title on PS5, it will also be on PS4 and Demon souls looks great but I would not call that a AAA title, we really have to wait and see how it actually turns out.

CPU, GPU, and RAM. Combined with the size of the box, indeed. That's also part of engineering, you know. Getting everything in a proper form factor. All of that together tells you the box is better engineered.

RAM is the same, GPU means tflops, CPUs are 3.5 to 3.8.

Do you honestly think when we do eventually get gameplay comparisons that they are going to look any different without using a microscope? Because I think you have a nasty shock coming if you think so. The differences are just too small - and you cheerfully neglect to mention the things in the Ps5 that are stronger than in the XsX.

And you can bang on about better engineering all you like when you haven't seen any game comparisons, but it's meaningless until you do.

The acid test of a video game console's engineering prowess is the way it plays games. Nothing. Else. Matters.

I always look at a console after a year of life, when the next solid iteration of the hardware is on the horizon and/or a price-drop. Mostly likely a price-drop first.

It is obvious that Halo was a huge part of the launch and once it became clear that, yup, 343 is still 343, they had nothing to go on except for HDR in 360 games. So they want me to spend $500 to run 12 year old games with HDR and some One X games at higher frame rates. Yea... no thanks.

Personally I don’t have a problem with what he said, the build up to this launch has been of the most underwhelming in my lifetime. The constant talk of older titles doesn’t gather much excitement for me. Never known anything like it to be honest.

I’d rather someone in that position speak freely regardless if I agree or not rather than be an extension of a companies marketing or a suck up.

Next time he interviews Phil maybe if he gets a chance leading up to Nov 10 perhaps ask him about launch line up and so on.

All games I can play on my existing hardware. CP2077 isn’t even enhanced.

Hopefully the Xbox becomes a good product soon, i will recommend it then. No need to consoom just because MS is selling it.

I loved Killzone, also the graphical leap from PS3 to PS4 was massive as PS3 was really showing its age with blurry textures all over. Even the shitty COD Ghosts looked like I was playing on ultra settings. So yes, getting a next gen to even play third party crossgen games was visually awesome. Now, I can either play Spiderman on my PS4 at an upscaled resolution or real 4K with RT that I couldnt care less about. We arent going from 1080P to 4K...its 2.5K to 4K...yeah big deal.

The transitions from warhouse mission to open world is like 1-2 seconds through an animation.

Your going to have load screens, train scenes galore for PS4.

The better way to play it will l be PS5.

Demon Souls is 100% a AAA title. It's budget and studio size basically confirms this.

Launch is not mitigated to only November? Launch to me is first couple months. Expect Ratchet, GT7 to be within the first couple months of 2021.

There are people in the know on the other forum who literally are teasing the first 6-12 months as being the best launch year Sony has ever had.

They seem to be intent on disseminating their games to every possible console.. i imagine some people are just gonna want good games on a good system.. when i realised that I'll be able to play every xBox game on my computer, any residual interest i ever held in getting an xsx just vanished in smoke~

This is a trend that Sony is quickly catching up on as well. The only manufacturer with console exclusives at the end of the new generation will be Nintendo.

I agree though, the trend is definitely pushing me toward investing in a great PC and enjoying the best of all worlds on one platform.

I can tell you with confidence it is a 2021 game. There were talks releasing it in a Open Access type of state in mid-late December. But they want there to be a lot of content at launch (cars, tracks, licenses).

Do you ignore whats been going on? Demons souls has almost as much interest as MM if you go by sales metrics on amazon, bestbuy ect.

Demons souls not selling well when it's advertised as a big launch title? You obviously have no clue. Who would have thought a shit game like Knack or Killzone shadow fall would sell millions? Reason why? It was a launch title. People want demons souls. It's just the game doesn't interest you which is totally fine.

But souls like games have been doing well and demons souls is the grandfather of all those. The millions upon millions of reactions on youtube for that game would say you are underestimating it's popularity and selling power.

I have a gaming PC with newly bought gamepass sub, with a PS5 preordered I'm fine. In terms of software I skew more towards Sony. They just make what I enjoy for the most part.

I get your point, but you should get why a console that acts as a PC upgrade might upset console players which expect, shock, the console model where new HW has been games pushing it and not like buying a new GPU on a PC?

I get the expectation of "new console, new games". And I agree it's disappointing the way this next gen is starting. But I'm happy enough that these new consoles will dramatically change the game play experience for so many existing games, like 4K 60 mode in Destiny 2, etc. The massive hardware upgrade really is enough for me.

We also have to understand the reason there are not many new games at launch isn't just Microsoft's fault. Games as a service, free to play models, giant install bases.... what is the motivation for these big publishers to create "only on next gen" games, out of the gate? Should Respawn have launched Apex Legends 2 that can only run on Series X and PS5? And just...quit development on Apex 1? Or does it make more sense to just support Apex on newer hardware and give better framerates and graphical options?

MS does not have a single next gen exclusive system seller at launch and Sony only has DS.
Pretty desolate on both fronts imho.

This is not how marketing works...

Us core gamers know that Sackboy, Ratchet, Horizon, etc etc are cross gen games. However, Sony will showcase PS5 versions and refer to said games as "PS5" games/exclusives. The market will gravitate to that argument as an incentive and reason to buy into the PS5. XBSX's problem is that it can't match that IP argument. Also the reported mismanagement of Halo turned the biggest IP in their history as a platform, into a meme to be ridiculed. Which pulled their marquee francise from the SX release window.

It's not about the quality of the games. It's not even about exclusives. At this very specific point in time it's about making a pitch to a broad audience and XBOX hasn't even begun writing the script in terms of traditional marketing. So their focus is old games/BC. How effective that will be in the face of PS5's mind share remains to be seen. But I surmise that this argument of last gen games is pushing people towards a PS5 purchase. Obviously my assumptions are based on what I'm seeing on social media and the comparison in metrics when PS5 drops a picture/vid. Think about it this way...

The PS4 teardown vid which was removed and then put back on youtube amassed 1.7 million views in 3 years
THe PS5 teardown released 2 weeks ago amassed 8.8 million views in two weeks

If I compare the XBSX teardown (I think DF is their highest viewed teardown vid) the numbers in comparison could cause contention so I wont. But the contrast in interest/views does, in my opinion, point to one example of the stark contrast in momentum.

Thats the smart choice. I just happen to get lucky and get a preorder in, and am waiting because I'm building a new PC next spring with all new cpu,gpu, storage might by a 120hz 4k panel, unsure on that as I already have a 1440p 165hz monitor.

But I'm also selling my Motorcycle to a friend next spring as well to buy a cruiser.

PS5 will just help me play some games and enjoy the winter as our winters are something out of a horror movie lol.

I wasn't impressed with Ratchet at 1st watching the trailer on my phone but then I went into bestbuy and saw it on the Sony 900h and holy shit did it looked great
