13 minutes of exclusive XsX Scorn gameplay (4K)

You're very aggressive, it's weird.

Oh and by the way, here's you asking for next gen gameplay from XsX, one of your many console warrior concern trolling posts

Oops.

This is how you know you're dealing with a console warrior.

I'm actually asking is there still no XSX gameplay. I don't sit here on this forum all day refreshing the page like some.....

I saw Dirt 5, thought it was OK but nothing was talked about that the XSX was doing specifically.

When then get this, a supposed XSX exclusive and I assume that this game will take advantage of the XSX capabilities and we get NOTHING.

Most pointless gameplay I've seen in a while.

Look, I get it, Xbox has a special place in your heart so you defend it 24/7, thats your prerogative but I don't really care about your obsession.

This gameplay trailer was terrible.

Er it looks amazing. What looks better?, what has as much texture detail?, what has higher poly counts in its environments?.
This game was designed for high end PC's,and it shows.

The difference between the in-engine trailer and gameplay is night and day. Sure we shouldn't compare in-engine vs game, but they have not really improved that much over the previous beta from years ago. It looks really flat when he walks outside of the lights.

The in-engine looks much more impressive and next-gen. This does not even look close to being called "next-gen"

The art is cool, but it looks incredibly boring, and also weirdly obnoxious. Hey, look at this weird looking weapon with weird sucking noises and stuff...that shoots!

Nothing? It showed a number of gameplay elements. Yea we dont know what the fuck is going on or why this dude is there etc but we’ll learn this in time.
Dude.... it showed him shooting a "gun" and some interaction with some devices.

I'm not asking for the whole game to be laid bare but a developer speaking over this giving some insight would have been much more appreciated.

I just found this pointless.

Do you mean the orig trailer they showed at the Xbox event?, this video looks more detailed imo, at least as good. This is actual gameplay as well, not sweeping cutscene like shots you get in a trailer.
Point still stands, this is the most detailed game i have ever seen, and the best looking next gen game IMO.

I already wrote what I would rather see instead.

I'm not writing it out again.

You wanted the devs to sit around and talk about the game, without showing it, presumably so you could keep trolling Xbox fans by feigning concern that no next gen gameplay has been shown on Series X. A real bubble burst.

Next time you want to pretend not to be an obvious troll, try not to have a post history as full of obvious trolls.

You mocked Xbox Series X for not showing next gen gameplay repeatedly. Now you've moved the goalposts.

Here's yet another example

Like I said dude, get real. You're full of shit.

There is a reason there was so much hype and buzz leading up to that Halo reveal. It was supposed to be the first showing of Series X gameplay and show people the power of the Series X and show a true leap in next-gen gaming...... and then we found out it was running on PC.

You want to sit up here and have the nerve to be so dumbfucked to try and act like Minecraft, Gears 5 and State of Decay 2 are Series X gameplay is fucking embarassing.

No standards. No accountabilty. No quality.

Imagine.... SOny coming out here and showing us Uncharted 2 running on a PS5 and claiming this is PS5 gameplay. Must be crazy.

It hurts, doesn't it.

When he's, like, reloading his gun, it reminds me so strongly of some puzzle in Myst it's uncanny.

He wasn't reloading the gun, he was switching out the gun module components. Unless there's some specific part you'd like to indicate.

EDIT: Never mind I saw what part you were talking about. Though, I don't see the issue really. In fact I think you mentioned this way back, and I didn't see the issue then, either.

Are people expecting a shoot-shoot, bang-bang FPS style of game? It really makes me wonder how some gamers today would've responded to something like System Shock if it came out in 2020 and the game defaulted to the Puzzles and Adventure parts being the dominant parts of the gameplay?

Maybe the average span of patience for a slower-paced experience with the typical gamer is dead now. Sad, because it was those kind of shifts (whether genuine or assumed) that caused survival horror to shift to a much more action-heavy design with games like RE4 leading the pack in that regard. There's a reason Capcom took so long to port the Gamecube RERemake and RE0 to PS4, XBO and PC....

I've always seen this game as more adventure-like with some puzzle elements and a big survival-horror feel, and intentionally light on action or shooting. So maybe saying parts of it are "Myst-like" is more in line with what they are intending? That explains things like the reload time; you wouldn't just fire off all your bullets in classic RE games and hope to reload swiftly on the spot while monsters were still around. Slow reloading works as a game mechanic in some style of survival-horror games because it forces you to be strategic with your confrontations. I don't know why this is being glossed over or not considered in this game's case 🤷‍♂️

The game started development in 2014 and full production in 2015, yikes.
The theme is fine, monsters not so much. I'm not certain players will enjoy playing this for 10-15 hours, or maybe the game is short?
TBH I'm curious about WTH is going on, however, the description of the game is sort of that the player is just "being thrown into the world". I'm not sure there will ever be must explanation :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Yikes? Its a flipping indie game. It must have a small team. Its not difficult to see why it took so long.

Devs have already said the game is more survival horror. And the footage here is supposedly the start of the game, so obviously they are not throwing much at you.
People seem to be expecting DOOM or something, well its not that kind of game.

I started watching the video after dinner, lying on my couch and I was falling asleep 4 min in the gameplay, luckily my phone fell on my face. Btw seems super boring to me, but graphically looks good. Maybe if you love that setting, could be interesting.

Plus its rumoured they ran out of money, and Microsoft swooped in to save them, hense why its Xbox and PC exclusive.
The game was supposed to be in 2 parts, but its now one whole game thanks to Microsofts support.

I already said I would have preferred to have a developer talk over the game and explain a bit of what is going on and what the XSX was allowing them to do with the game.

Who cares about Xbox fans? It's a piece of plastic with metal. I have better things to do with my life, clearly you don't.

All you do here is suck Xbox off. You don't contribute to any type of discussion.

Mortal Shell started development with a core team of 4 people in 2017 and is 10x more impressive than anything shown so far from Scorn.

People are judging what's been seen so far, which has overwhelmingly been lackluster especially when you compare it to the gameplay shown in 2017.

I don't think that type of gamer is dead...people are still highly anticipating Silent Hills or whatever its project reincarnation is. I do actually think some people are expecting something more akin to DOOM vs Silent Hill when they see/hear the name SCORN, it has that same kind of vibe to it maybe. At work so I can't see the gameplay right now but I am hoping it goes more in the direction of Silent Hill. A properly executed Silent Hill-type game in a Giger universe would be a true mind fuck.

That's really odd considering you've spent the better part of three pages arguing with people over the fact they don't agree with your reductionist, quite frankly lazy arguments.

Btw your suggestion about Sony passing off upgraded PS4 UC4 footage as PS5 gameplay is technically already being done with Miles Morales on PS5 which is a cross-gen upgrade adding some effects/framerate boosts to the PS4 version for the next-gen system.

I remain curious. It has potential, but I have my reservations. There are definitely improvements to the 2017 gameplay. Tbh though I think the developers should have focused more on creating a short, but exciting and tight experience, but that is just me.

This looks super generic with a cool aesthetic that they wanted to maintain throughout the experience. Really slow and boring from what I saw..... no thanks. Is it me, or is there a lot of motion blur when he moves? Could just be the video.

Stealth Edit: Could this game suffer because Microsoft is hyping this game up too much like Sony and No Man's Sky?

Probably best not to judge a whole game on 14mins of footage, footage from the start of the game apparently.

I don’t mind a walking simulator. I find them soothing. I’ll probably play this when it’s come down a bit in price. Assuming it won’t have a full price tag out of the gate anyway.

Hmm I really wanted to like these somber tapestries. But gameplay-wise it appears sooo basic. The HR Giger vibe is great, but after 5 minutes I got tired of those exaggerated animations and I thought “Is this it?”
Maybe the “gating” mechanic will be exciting..? The monsters weren’t terrifying at all. Not even that gross unfortunately.
I sincerely hope this is early work in progress, because besides the visuals - there’s nothing going on here.

You are full of shit. Mortal shell was made by industry veterans. Not an indie start up in the same sense.they shipped on xbox ps4 and pc.

This was made by people with little to no exp. You also dont know if development of scorn stopped at any point. If you had worked on a game before, u might have a better appreciation for how much work it is.

Scorn has visuals that compete with games created by industry vets. The game play seems slow moving but that is what they wanted.

Incorrect.... yet again.

If I was arguing with people with the fact that they don't agree with me you would have made some sense. But I did nothing of the sort, all I did was re-affirm to others (and a child) that what they showed TO ME was pointless. If you actually read what I wrote instead of jumping in you would have gauged that...... but that would be asking too much.......

....just like you believing me asking for a developer to talk about the game and what capabilities the XSX has allowed them to achieve would have made for a better gameplay trailer.....yeah.

Hmmm...... This a Sony, PS4, PS5 or Spider-Man thread? Must have missed that in the title somewhere.

Maybe Scorn is codename for Spider-Man.............

"Slow and boring"

FFS not every game has to be on speed shoot shoot bang bang. Most games with slower pace focused on atmosphere look boring in videos. What matters is if the atmosphere is strong, there is immersion and good story. And we'll see how it fares on those fronts. Art direction is strong.

Game pacing appears slow and monotonous, but its only a tiny part shown. As a horror/sci fi fan, im hoping it turns out good. Im interested enough to want to know more.

I thought this was going to be a xbox launch game, so thats disappointing if you're an xbox fan. Hopefully The Medium delivers at launch. In the meantime, I still have Evil Within 2 and Remakes 2/3 to play.

I think it looks sweet. The visuals are great and I liked how slow and methodically you had to switch weapon types, reload ammo, ect. I feel like it'll force you to be conscious of how prepared you are in every area.

I had zero interest before but now it's heavily on the radar.

That's the "problem" we have already seen footage and beta gameplay from it years ago. I hope it will look better in the future and much closer to the in-engine trailer. Gameplay looks ok but nothing special.

It's the artstyle that makes the difference, but "next-gen'" ....hell no.

It’s an indie game right? Even in development since game trailers went under at least. Not my thing but it’s cool they have stuck with it for so long.

I'm a big Giger fan but his art style is best when seen in small doses. Building an entire game around his biomechanical art is going to get repetitive very fast.

This exactly. Obvious console warrior trolls hate it when their narrative about the plastic box they love to show their "concern" for loses one of their important talking points. .

That's also why they come en masses into a thread for an exclusive game on a console they have NO intention of buying to let everyone know how much they don't like it.

There's plenty of people here that don't like what was shown so far and plan to get a Xbox. It's also coming to PC, but I guess that doesn't fit that narrative as well.

I take it you're not much of an H.R Giger fan then?

I like the Alien movies, but I'm not sure what's going on here. Is this an alien craft? Is it hell? There's no specific threat, just uninspired somethings in short supply and that manky sound when he loads the gun. Frankly it's pants.

Gross and creepy is usually up my alley and don't get me wrong there's some real artistry but this feels like an art project that was stretched out into a 'game' except it doesn't play like one.

Also is it just me or the camera movement makes you motion sick?
