Best decision I ever made was posting a “should I buy cyberpunk on base PS4 or my PC” thread on GAF a week ago

had it all pre-ordered on my base PS4 through Amazon

cancelled and went with my PC

dodged a bullet
seems a bit crazy to think i was gonna keep my PS4 for this game lol. also, while i'm sure the game will eventually be good on PS5/XSX i think it's a blessing in disguise that my SERIES X died after 4 days.

it's like the universe made sure i bought it on PC.

Same. Again, I was done and decided. Last week I’m like “ehhh. let me ask GAF their thoughts”

little did I know just how awful those Jaguar cores truly are on my base PS4

to be fair, i enjoyed my time with PS4 and there were many games it ran well. RDR2 i thought was a damn good looking game

but Cyberpunk is just too much for these consoles. i said it early that i have a good PC and it blows my mind how on earth CDPR got the game running this good on PC. the city itself is a technological marvel.

I was quite happy with RDR2 on PS4

Also, my PC played TW3 at 1440/60 on high. So it was dumb to consider this game on PS4. My PC is considered “old” now. But she still has some meat left in her

Holy shit the Cyberpunk subreddit is completely on fire. So many people pissed off at the game. I think it's fair to say at this point that the game didn't meet the hype.

It's getting to the point where I'm noticing people are talking less about the bugs, and more about the actual faults of the game. Lifeless NPCs, lack of QoL features (no transmog, no barber, lack of customization), and bad AI are the criticisms I see the most. To be honest, even though I'm having a really good time with it, I can see where the criticisms are coming from. The game was marketed as the next evolution of Open World RPGs, and it's not even close. Granted there are a lot of things to like about it, and a lot of things it does very well.

Hopefully in a couple years from now, after many QoL changes, polishing, DLC, balance tweaking, and features being added, CP77 will be a vastly improved experience than it is now. The potential is there. There are a lot of people shitting on this game (some of it deservedly so), but who knows what state this game will be in 1-2 years from now. But as it stands right now, it's undercooked, and does some things that are a step back for Open World RPGs.

Being in an environment full of haters is one of constant conditioning and reinforcement of the negative. It’s infectious.

Eh. If this game didn’t have 8 years of hype, it wouldn’t be under such a microscope. Had it simply had an E3 2019 reveal and such, it would be fine. It was too hyped. Far more than any game I’ve ever seen personally.

Obviously given the hype, it’ll never meet it. Was never going to. But if you take it on it’s face for what it is, it‘s a fantastic game with great potential as a franchise down the road.

It's an i7 6700K, 16gb RAM and a GTX 1070.

Should run well at least on medium, but I get terrible framerates even with everything on low, so...

Also, that terrible forced TAA is getting me nauseous
Word, I can run at 1080p mostly high/60 on my GTX 1070 and a 4670k. No OC

You must be doing something wrong (check your drivers).

I ran this baby with the following setups on my test bench:

Ryzen 5 3600
GTX 1070

I7 2600
AMD RX 580

And in both cases I could run it perfectly fine above 30FPS on Medium. The Ryzen 5 + 1070 setup could get to the upper 50s with a mix of Highs and Ultras.

I was reading posts and comments on that subreddit for a good 15+ minutes before I had to stop, and hop on here. It was kinda making me dizzy, although it could also be because I'm tired, I've been playing the game almost nonstop all day. Maybe once the dust settles and after many improvements, people who are disappointed will revisit it and appreciate it more. I definitely see where the criticisms are coming from, but in my experience the things this game does right, heavily outweigh the things it does wrong.

That's the same rig as me... I run the game at Ultra... lol... it runs fine, my bro.

Also the internet is for haters, people who love the game are playing it, honestly the only reason you see me posting here is I need breaks from the excellence of this shit.

Bingo. Exactly. I also have a 1070 and mostly high (dialed back a few things) I can grab 60. Not even OC’d anything. Don’t feel the need

Finally got a sniper rifle, it's a game changer. Playing on hard I can now 1-hit non-boss humans with a headshot. It is a power weapon too so they're sitting ducks even when they think they're in cover.

The amount of content in this game is absurd

I’ve been grinding through side quests all day and I still have 32 available

for reference, I’m 18 hours in, just a little past Act 2

The writing is exceptional

pretty much cried already once in the game, ngl

such a nice break from AC: Valhalla

Yeah, that's so weird, because I read people with even worse GPUs getting better performance (and also people with better rigs getting bad framerate).

I did all I could for now, updated drivers, checked some configs on Nvidia Panel, turned everything off in-game, nothing seems to make a real difference, I get around 45FPS regardless of options with lots of dips into 20, 25.

I'll get it again after they patch it, I guess

There's a sniper hidden right after you get your eyes from the ripper doc near the beginning of the game, that alleyway has an elevator that goes to a roof with a level 20 requirement sniper

Dr.Guru of Peru

played the long game
The game has potential, but is pretty terrible in its current incarnation. Not sure what reviewers were smoking with its current review scores. The game is broken in a lot of ways. I’m going to come back to it in a few months.

The PC I'd be playing it on mainly has a GTX 980

Gamers Nexus' tests have a RX 580 at 30fps

I hear using the Fidelity FX settings can help too.

Reading the thread a bit more, it seems that one can get acceptable experiences with a 1070.

Yeah mine is a 1070 and mostly high 1080/60.

not sure how a 980/1070 compare. I feel like it’s marginal. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it’s the 980ti vs 1070 that’s marginal.

Either way, it‘ll run circles around any console UNTIL a next gen patch. Which who knows, might be 6-12 months.

On console it is pretty dead, RIP console gamers, tbh
I’m xsx it’s packed, parts of the town are a bitch to walk through during the day because there are so many people on the sidewalk

Pretty sure some of those gameplay videos that show low density were taken early in the game
when the town was on lockdown

or maybe it’s not that dense on PS5 *shrug*

Edit: added spoiler tags

If I knew when the next gen patch is going to come out that will make my decision easier. At this rate, I'd probably upgrade my home/casual rig sooner than the next gen PS5 patch will come out.

I have no sympathy for these screeching console players. you shouldn’t have pre ordered. it’s shitty CDPR put the game out in this state on consoles but it’s not their fault you decide to blindly hand over your money.

the game is beyond all hope on last gen consoles. if you’re not happy with it then sell it and go play something else. IMO you should NOT be entitled to a refund. if you have a current gen console then there is hope because it should be a good experience when the 2021 update is out.

the game is actually really good. I have a good PC and it has no right to run this well. what they’ve done with the city is mind blowing. there is nothing else like it in any other video game.
I agree about people complaining but they got the Witcher 3 to work on Switch so I have faith with a bit more work X1/PS4 should atleast have a solid framerate and more polish overall. I don’t think CDPR will leave them out to dry.

I mean, it’s lucky at this point CDPR even released this game. Don’t count on a next gen patch anytime soon. They’ll be fixing things and such for months.
