No, rather than add to political discussion in a constructive way he would have rather made personal attacks dressed up as cartoons against people that he disagreed with (or sometimes outright insults). I never responded in kind, but I'll have my laugh at his final temper tantrum.

He posted cartoons outside of politics as well. They were no more offensive than any cartoon printed in a newspaper. Lighten up. He put good effort and showed his real skills with them, a unique thing has been lost. He was better with a pencil and paper than I am with Photoshop.

Prime example of mistaking politeness for civility. The raucous dwarves in the tavern swearing their heads off but ultimately getting along are more civil than the sewing circle pretending to like each other while discreetly stabbing each other in the back. By all means, celebrate the dwarves being kicked out of the tavern for getting a bit too tipsy (and their sober mates too on suspicion). Just know that they were the social glue preventing you harpies from eating each other alive.

See I used to think this of the old crew, was bummed out as they left one by one. Since I enjoyed interacting with them, but that was before I saw discord. Apparently some people just can't tell a person how they feel about one another even thru a computer screen.

It's sad so many members have opted out of GAF. I think maybe the last year of the plague magnifies issues people have with GAF. I think since the forced isolation and limited social contact, GAF and other sites have become a more important method of social interaction and some people take it too seriously.

I think the problem is there is no transparency to know who also got removed from a thread. I see personal attacks at me in the David Jaffe thread but I don’t even know if those people were reprimanded like I was (even though I didn’t post any personal attacks at people). Maybe there should be “Removed From Thread” type warning message? I think something like this would alleviate some concern (and could show if there is bias from the mods).

The only thing that matters is that gaf survives and stays economically viable for ownership to keep dealing with us than selling to a clickfarmer. The internet is becoming a hostile place after the big boys took over most of it and it’s become a corporate hellscape.
I went off the rocker in the politics subforum, fine I’m staying out, mostly. I’m going to keep trying to get a community thread stick around for good to help people lay roots here (and yes the promised OT is coming, I took an unexpected 12h shift up the ass today and it derailed my plans, it’ll go up tomorrow instead).
Honestly I think retreating to discords is defeatist and not very productive but what do I know, I’m just a shitposting IT drone that’s way too tired atm.
This entire thing reminds me of the time the last bar in town that allowed people to smoke weed inside back when tobacco was already verboten indoors let all customers know they couldn’t keep letting customers light it up inside. Bunch of people stopped going because they couldn’t smoke inside anymore but they forgot why that bar was the last place that risked it.
