You have to wonder where Switch would be today if it had launched at the same time as XB1 and PS4.
What a beastly console.
That was such a weird take which could only happen in the Gaf bubble. Or even weirder the idea that Nintendo needed a Super Switch to "compete" with the new consoles. Some people have predicted that the next gen launch would halt the Switch momentum and how did it respond? By having the best February of any console since the Wii in 2009.
It would have been extremely underpowered. Remember that 3DS released in early 2011 and WiiU in late 2012. I doubt that Nintendo could release a portable hardware in 2013 much more powerful than a PSVita. Also, killing 3DS after few years seems not a great idea. Switch came in a perfect spot, without new machines or competition. Truly masterclass planning built on the failures of the WiiU project. You have to wonder where Switch would be today if it had launched at the same time as XB1 and PS4.
What a beastly console.
Where's Europe/rest of the world?

1. It's much easier to get sold-through data from weekly and monthly sales trackers like Famitsu and NPD for timeframe comparison.Does not fit the narrative
January+February 2021 for combined numbers of US and Japan. Some people have predicted that the next gen launch would halt the Switch momentum and how did it respond? By having the best February of any console since the Wii in 2009.

Nintendo Switch ~2.3M units
Playstation 5 ~0.68M units
Nintendo ExclusivesI don’t understand what is driving all the switch sales. Is it the new mario Kart remote control game? Or animal crossing? Or something I don’t know about? The only game I am looking forward to for my switch is Metroid Prime 4
People are bored during quarantine, more competition for primary TV means more use for secondary consoles, women are discovering gaming thanks to Animal Crossing.I don’t understand what is driving all the switch sales. Europe is a single market and is much larger than Japan.2. US and Japan are the biggest dedicated video game hardware market.
I'm comparing countries and not continentsPeople are bored during quarantine, more competition for primary TV means more use for secondary consoles, women are discovering gaming thanks to Animal Crossing.
Europe is a single market and is much larger than Japan.
Switch is likely to sell around 30M in Japan which is similar or bigger than UK+Germany+France+Italy+Spain for PS4.Didn't know folks in Japan still plays games.
If you could provide 48 months tracking report of PS4 or even XB1 I'll glady put it at the OP.Bit convenient to leave out a market as big as Europe.
I wonder why you cherrypicked the year where the Wii peaked. Really makes you think.Nintendo, the only entertainment company in the world that hasn't grown in 12 years despite unprecedented stay-at-home demand due to the global pandemic.
Weak software sales dependent on ten Nintendo games, low digital sales, MAU and paid subscribers reflect an outdated business model masked by Covid lockdowns.
Microsoft's sales could overtake Nintendo's very soon, something unimaginable in 2008.
Lol what does your last sentence even mean?Nintendoomed 'o clock !
Crazy how Nintendo does this pretty much on their own, too.
Wake me up when Sony can do numbers like this with their games alone.
Didn't know folks in Japan still plays games.
Sold-through numbers for both countries
US(NPD)
PS4 ~20.2M
NSW ~27M
XB1 ~17.3M
Japan(Famitsu)
PS4 ~6.3M
NSW ~18.5M
XB1 ~98K
Total of US+Japan
PS4 ~26.5M

2. US and Japan are the biggest dedicated video game hardware market.
3. We have 46 months shipment numbers with Switch at 79.9M and PS4 at 67M
You've deliberately cut out PS4s and X1s 2 years in US?
It's launch aligned no? That's simply the total of the 48 months after launch, so I don't see the problem
Unlike PS4, Wii, and PS5, Nintendo Switch didn't set the world on fire but the momentum of Nintendo Switch is a sight to behold especially without an official price cut after 4 years on the market.Crazy numbers for all consoles. Switch just on another level
Comparing the first 48 of Switch, with the middle-late 48 of PS4/XBO, some AFTER their replacements were already available (and a bunch more after their replacements were announced) is the kind of statistics I've come to expect from a B Bodomism thread. If you could provide 48 months tracking report of PS4 or even XB1 I'll glady put it at the OP.
Why 48 months? Because it's current Switch LTD.
"Launch aligned" is literally the first two words of the thread title.
48 months has addictional holiday spike sales on Switch... the holiday happens on month 50 on PS4.It's launch aligned no? That's simply the total of the 48 months after launch, so I don't see the problem
We have 46 months shipment data but it was already being discussed where Switch is only trailing behind NDS and ~13M above PS4."Launch aligned" is literally the first two words of the thread title.
Having said that I do think this thread would be better if we used worldwide shipments instead of sales in just the two biggest markets (although it's tricky getting this for Xbox I know).
It's literally,
