Kena Bridge of Spirits Review Thread

Warnen

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Funny watching the ACG I said to myself this looks like a graphically enhanced Beyond good and evil and he mentions that. Not really my thing, haven’t even finished a Zelda game so don’t have much interest in this type of game.

gives me hope some one can do a Legacy of Kain Soul reaver reboot (one of the only Zelda likes I ever enjoyed).

Those score are better than I expected. Game looks really nice, it's definitely going on my "play once I have a Ps5" list.
Hopefully this is the beginning of great future for Ember Labs. We need more indies that can make these shorter high quality games with nice visuals.

To anyone who's playing it, does it play like the old-school action platformers? reminds me of Star Fox Adventures.

Returnal wasn't a first-party Sony game until after it was made.
I inclined to say Returnal was Sony's IP even before the aquisition.
I remember Resogun being first-party IP too.

It was just like the IPs Insommiac developed before... all Sony's first-party being developed by a 3rd-party developer.

Great looking game, interesting story and I think the gameplay will be nice. Will buy, but not today since I barely have free time to play lately :messenger_downcast_sweat:

This game piqued my interest quickly and with the good reviews, now just a debate on how to purchase. I normally don't like digital media at full price but I'm off work today and damn it looks fun. Physical being months away is not cool either plus that's more expensive. Hmmm. Crossroads.

I put in 2 hours of gameplay last night, the game is gorgeous and smooth. Love the world building so far and the characters are adorable, Pixar like. The fact that this game is being compared to Pixar movies makes sense, but we all know it's not equal to current Pixar movies (not possible given hardware limitations).

I have a few minor gripes so far, does anyone else find it a bit jarring going from 60fps gameplay into the 30fps cutscenes? Takes me out of the experience a bit, I wish they would've just stuck with in game cutscenes, but I understand that's not possible on the PS4 version. Not the biggest fan of the double jump animation, I know it does the job but in my mind I feel like the motion gives me a sense of I'm going to fall short on most double jump attempts.

Can't wait to play more of it later tonight. Sony has another hit on their hands, I wish they would market this game more heavily.

Been waiting for this game since it was first shown. Didn’t pre order due to them holding off reviews. Looking good so grabbing this today. *blows dust off ps5*

Reminds me a lot of Horizon Zero Dawn which also had laughably bad jumping animation. Erm, in my opinion!

Agree 1000% about that, I've decided to finish HZD (was near the end), and the jump animation (+ other things) annoy me and gave me sometime the impression that Alloy is "outside" of the screen, don't know how to explain that. And watching some video of Kena give me sometime the same feeling.

What? Sony has published games that were released on Xbox under a different publisher. That isn't a Sony first-party game.

Platform & publisher are the same = 1st party.
All Sony published games on PlayStation are 1st party PlayStation games.
All Microsoft published games on Xbox are 1st party Xbox games.

From Sony's point of view, Minecraft and Deathloop are 3rd party games, while to Microsoft they're 1st party games.
From Sony's point of view, MLB The Show is a 1st party game, while to Microsoft it is a 3rd party game.

All just depends on the platform holder (PlayStation/Xbox) and publisher (PlayStation/Xbox/other).

Yeah the double jump animation is rather peculiar, even from the videos it look like they are about to miss half the jumps:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Yes.

The gameplay is fine, but it’s undeniably dated. You’ve played this game countless times on PS2, 3 and 4. The upgrades are all very standard fare.

But the world is wonderful and worth spending time in.

Report me if I continue to console war
Only 19 reviews on metacritic and 29 on opencritic, opencritic is at 83 now.

I expected high 70s, looks like it will settle on low 80s. Great result for such a small team.

Have you seen the 15 minutes credits from Demon’s Souls? It’s not only Bluepoint it’s all the outsourcing and other Sony studios helping. I think around 300 people worked on that remake. Add to that a 100+ orchestra.

What's that got to do with anything? Blueprint is a small studio. Doesn't matter what Sony paid for the outsourcing etc.
So do you think Bluepoint have that 100+ orchestra on their payroll?

Looks like this is going to be worth picking up after all, once I'm done with Deathloop I'll probably grab it, looks chill.
