70% of Call of Duty: Vanguard's UK launch physical sales were on PlayStation platforms

If you Xbox fans don’t like UK physical sales why do you always need to comment here then? You are crying about an official sales data report just because it doesn’t put your favorite console in a positive light. Oh well?

It’s not like digital will change change anything for Xbox. PlayStation has digital sales too. The sales difference would be about the same or bigger.

Physical media are still being sold. They matter for total sales data. You can’t ignore physical sales just as much as you can’t digital. If this was a digital only chart it wouldn’t be complete either. But it does give you some idea of the sales on all consoles.

Need to expand this out but it does look kinda inline with the consoles sales, no?

Playstation 5 is taking the throne little by little.
That was always going to happen. What's interesting is that PS consoles had even more marketshare this time around:

Vanguard
- 41% PS5,
- 29% PS4
- 19 % Xbox One
- 11% Xbox Series X/S

Black Ops
- 17% PS5
- 39% PS4
- 34% Xbox One
- 9% Xbox Series X/S

At least in boxed units of course.
Still Sony went from 56% to 70% while Xbox went from 43% to 30%.

That's brutal tbh.

Did they release the PS5 version before the console was out? I remember they did that with Ghosts on PS4 lol.

Same people who use this as some kind of victory turn into ray charles when Japanese charts are posted.

Also these charts are pretty much useless.
But Xbox Series retail software was like 1700 in Japan not long ago, so erm...?

willing to bet money Halo has a lot to do with lack of sales on Xbox for COD
What, why should it? Halo is pretty much a free game for many xbox players (MP being f2p and campaign through gamepass). I doubt people that would usually buy COD would skip it for a game that is free to them and comes out a month later. Dont see the logic in this, maybe i am missing something.

Just saying its how I feel from someone who usually buys COD with Halo approaching thats going to be my main shooter and having Forza right now I simply don't have the time to invest into COD (MP at least) and could see some others feeling the same way

For me personally owning both a PS5 and XSX I can tell you I passed on COD this year because Halo is coming and currently playing Forza Horizon 5 and willing to bet money Halo has a lot to do with lack of sales on Xbox for COD

I don't know if Halo will be able to compete against cod in terms of multiplayer.. we shall see

You are probably correct there... the Vanguard beta didn't leave too many people impressed and Xbox already has other better games to spend your money on this holiday.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Is buying physical over digital supposed to piss people off? We have had options since the 360/PS3 era.

Looks like the Switch is holding very strong. Four of the top ten are Switch games. And one of them is Minecraft which is available everywhere. Interesting that they pointed out that this is the Switch version.

And the Switch should dominate in the holiday season. PS5 will have to wait.

It seems worse to me that Vanguard sales on Xbox Series consoles are being outsold by sales on their XB1 last-gen platforms. While on PS, PS5 has handily overtaken the PS4 version, despite fewer players on PS5 because of the next-gen console scarcity.

What's going on with XSS/X in the UK? Are UK Xbox gamers shifting to PS?... Seems to indicate that to some extent at the very least.

This might be relevant. You're missing the lions share of the sales data, so make of that what you will. And if an Xbox owner isn't buying COD they're smart. Halo is right around the corner.

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2021/03/last_year_the_uks_gaming_purchases_were_85_per_cent_digital#:~:text=Earlier in the year, it,percentage is actually much higher.
The Digital attachment ratio is higher on all platforms. On PlayStation, it's around 65%, so not unless 100% of Xbox sales are digital the split will still remain thesame, give or take a few percentage points.

Digital. Also series S is all digital.

So far, Series console are 8m. While the x1 is 50m. UK should have more x1, compared to Series console.

The problem is this UK chart ignores the ps4. How in the hell does ps4 with 120m total world, compared to ps5 worldwide have less physical % compared to ps5?

Ps5 to ps4 is around 1/10.

Only answer would be digital sales.

You could be right, but it would be extremely odd to see a different PS5/PS4 split on digital sales than for physical.

For Xbox it makes perfect sense given XSS is all digital as you say.

PlayStation 5 has surpassed one million sales in the UK, according to official stat provider GfK. Sony's console achieved the feat in August, just 39 weeks after launch. This is three weeks faster than the PS4, making PS5 the fastest-selling PlayStation console in UK history.Sep 28, 2021

This might answer your question.

So ps5 would have small digital shares for Uk, compared to ps4.

highly doubt its because of Halo, it lacks every yr

That is what intuition would tell you, yes... but then why does the PS5 have a larger physical split for COD vanguard?

My question is more that, given PS5 physical split is larger than PS4, why wouldn't the digital split for the same game be the same as physical?

Looking at the installed base can be a red herring when COD gamers are only a subsection of those installed base users. It could very well be that COD players are the early adopters that moved from PS4 to PS5, hence the physical game split for Vanguard. So given this, the digital split should also be similar.

Its because we are in the digital age now.

Ps5 physical will still sell more, since ps5 is new console.
Xbox still have gamepass, so people will buy it digital.

Call of duty in general are digital, since most content are digital.

Understood, that's your opinion.

I hate COD as much as the next man, but the idea that Halo is somehow stopping Xbox gamers from buying COD is ludicrous. COD is it's own worst enemy.
I'll chime in on this.

I'm an Xbox player or "green rat" as they call it these days, and the reason i won't go near CoD is specifically because i want to focus on Halo MP. I'm not willing to pay full price for another quick CoD campaign and two weeks of MP before i ditch it for Halo. Another note, the DLC exclusivity.... i'm just not for it. If by playing on another system other than PS means i'm snubbed for a month from playing new maps etc, then i'd rather keep my money to be honest. Didn't like it when Xbox had that deal either but that was a long time ago now.

Also with FH5 just released i'm spending most of my time on that right now and quite frankly, been playing cod since the very beginning and i'm sick to death of it, literally the same thing over and over and over again. You can make that argument about Halo or Forza too to be fair but they aren't quite as excessive as CoD. The last Halo was made in 2015 (6 year gap) and FH4 was 2018 (3 year gap) and not even had a new Motorsport since 2017. At least with those i get a little breathing space between new iterations.

and one other thing. Every CoD advertisment comes with Playstation branding so it probably explains why it sells most for PS, that and the obvious market share difference between PS & Xbox so it's no surprise it sells more on the system its aimed at you know...

UK are converting to PlayStation!
Jimbo is blitzing home turf. We get more stock than other places in Europe.

Good play from sony, europe is locked to playstation the PS3 generation showed that, last place left is UK which I think they sold most last gen, but this gen gap is getting bigger.
