I love my PS5, but this has to be the worst design ever produced

Said it before and will say it again. The PS4 pro is the worst designed ever. No doubt in my mind. Ps5 isn’t great by any means but functionally it’s a huge improvement over PS4 pro. Not saying much though.

Nah, DE is actually a beaut.

Always go vertical. Looks great, doesn't take up any space.

Right now with my 55" TV this works great, but once I upgrade to a 65" or 77" there won't be enough space for the PS5 on top of my media cabinet (which is below the TV). What then, hm...

I really dislike the stand. You breathe on the damn PS5 and it falls off the stand.
This . I friggin hate it . It’s just asking to be sliding off the tv table to the floor . I had to put the ps5 the lowest possible point in my TV stand just in case if someone touches it by mistake it doesn’t fall and break . What a piece of shit horrible stand.

I am really surprised there are no other stands in the market from China or eBay .

good thing I have a black aftermarket plates

. Otherwise I would have been really not happy lol

Also, that shiny plastic in the middle . Thank god I have this black mate fiber sticker installed day one . Man that thing scratches if you look at it

It is definitely a divisive design, but I don't have a problem with it at all. I agree with others that it looks much better vertically.

Looks pretty damn good in my room though.....

How? The stand is screwed onto the console. Or is it horizontal for you?

The PS3 super slim wants to have a word with you!

I actually don't mind this in person. It is very small in comparison to the two prior and quiet as a church mouse.

As for the PS5, it is one of the reasons I went with the digital edition. It's more uniform, like a building design in Dubai.

Buddy has the disc version then ordered the black plates, and it makes the disc version look much better.

Doesn't look too bad vertically but it's so fucking enormous that a lot of TV cabinets just won't be able to fit it that way.
And yeah horizontally it's ugly as hell and the fact you need a shitty stand to even use it like that is worse.

I ordered Darkplates 2.0 for my digital edition. Big improvement.

IMO the PS5 is without a doubt the ugliest and silliest looking console ever made, especially when it's horizonal. With the black plates and displayed vertically as in the pictures above it's still way too big, too misshapen and it still looks pretty dumb to me, but it also looks at least 100% better than the photos in the OP.

It's surprising what a big difference a simple color change makes.

I don't think there is any product like PS5 which looks weird, like some outlandish 5k+ type product (eg expensive speakers), while costing 500USD. It's more hate/love design. I hate it, but it's distinctive, which is something not many companies are willing to do it.

Thanks for reading my review, which totally contain just the outer shell, which you don't even have to see when you throw it behind TV...

Yeah the stand not being secured in horizontal mode is my biggest gripe with it. Any time I have to move it a bit to change a cable or clean around it or anything I feel like the stand comes loose, sometimes it comes right off, doesn't feel secure.

When I build a new TV cabinet I might go vertical just so I can use the screw. Aesthetics wise, eh, it's a little bulky but I'm over it, kind of looks like an alien mothership.

I have this version, got it for £100 on sale at end of life (swapped out my OG). Glad someone else likes it too. In person it’s fucking tiny and like you say, silent.

Yeah, it's dogshit. Guarantee they'll completely redesign it in the slim/pro line in a few years.

As boring as the SXS is I'd still take it over this hunk.

Its not the shape, its the sheer size that is the main issue.

at a certain point I think the designers needed to realize that this is first and foremost a box that will go into an entertainment center or TV stand and should have scaled back the design.

I've owned it for a while now and honestly, the design has gotten worse in my mind the more I see it. There has to be a mid point between the Xbox monolith cube and Sony's flower petal swoopyness shit.

People gave it shit at the time but I honestly think the OG PS3 in a smaller package might be the best middle ground (maybe without the chrome):

I had one of the jet engine ps4pro models so I can hear this post lol.

They had to mean horizontal.

Off topic but that gif triggers me. That movie sucked so hard.
Lol as someone who used to work QA, a lot of my coworkers and I thought it was hilarious, but obviously not accurate.

Well, it was always meant to be an option. Have it one way, or the other. Vertical? Flat surface on the console to make it possible. Horizontal? Flat surface on the console to make it possible. But with the PS5, it feels less like an option. I mean, it IS one still, but the system was clearly made with vertical in mind, which is why those that want it horizontal need a piece of plastic. It's absurd IMO, lmao.

While I'm a big fan of white and black contrast like that, I think it's the organic shape that kills it, makes it the Sidney Opera house of console design.

That's the one thing I hate the most. We are in 2021, we want compact shit, Sony.
The PS4 was compact and also sounded like Concorde taking off.

I love compact but if it has to be a choice between compact or quiet I’d take quiet all day long.

I don't hate the aesthetic of the PS5 but I do hate glossy elements. Ever since the PS3 Sony seems to think that we need glossy black plastic. It easily scratches, smudges, and collects dust. I wish they'd stop using it.

This.

There must be some marketing doofus at Sony who thinks glossy sells more and that's why they keep going back to it. Much rather have the matte black.

I can't believe a real life engineer designed that stand and thought "yeah that is fine" (when the console is horizontal). It's not even loosely attached to the stand and if you so much as breathe on it it wobbles off.

Vertical is fine thanks to the screw even if it looks a bit like a gaming branded router.

Even though its possible to put it horizontal I feel it looks better vertical and the design was meant to be vertical. Ever since the reveal i was criticizing how big and horrible design it had, but now I think it looks nice besides my TV a put it a bit at an angle so it looks more interesting, feels kindda like a weird sculpture.

All I know is whatever they did my system is silent as the dead. I don’t care if I had to have a penis with the disk drive as long as it doesn’t make noise. That being said I got one of those things that let me mount it to the wall and actually looks pretty slick. There are ways to work with it.
