i have played and beat every mainline halo game on legendary solo, but i have zero desire to play this game even on heroic, because i know those boss fights are going to piss me off (not to mention snipers taking pot shots at you from across the map and banshees spawning every 2.5 minutes).

yeah, no thanks on that. i enjoy wrecking shit on my normal run too much to be bothered by some OP frustrating boss fight

Theres one or two "frustating" fights through the game. I'd def recommend playing it on heroic.

The thing I miss the most are the big epic battles.
It wasa key area of old halo games and I hope they put a big effort into it for future updates.

The silent cartographer when you just land with all the marines, when covenant and flood where fighting in the snow, the scarab in Halo 2, the scorpions in the desert halo 3, scarabs in halo 3...

In Infinite this is all gone. Open world but smaller scale battles, and a lack of epic moments.

Doing my second run now

Agreed, I wanted to see some 100 marines fighting a bunch of aliens. Max was 6....

I'm slowly working my way through Infinite and its becoming a long trudge.

The core combat is the only thing that keeps me coming back, even though i feel like I'm repeating the same small scale encounter over and over.

Maybe the ending will throw something new at me....onwards

I loved this game. To me it’s my fav halo campaign of all of them. They managed to make it open world but sometimes games need to be narrower in scope to point a player in a particular direction and I think this game does both perfect.
I also really enjoyed the sense of progression this game gives you as well by giving you weapon and vehicle unlocks. The Npc marines are actually useful too which was nice.
This game just nails it all, from there sound design, the graphics , the enemy AI and the robust amount of weapons and the ability to use it all in murderous sandbox I think this game ranks right up there with the best shooter campings of the last 10 years such as titanfall 2, and the doom remakes. It’s every bit as good as those snd I say even better. I can’t think of any FPS that has made me feel as much of a bad ass as this. I would shoot one dude with a Br in the head killing him, then grapple hook a guy from across the map, mellee kill him, shoot another guy in the head and then throw a sticky grenade in the middle of 3 grunts, all while getting out of range with the grappling hook before it went off killing all 3 of the grunts. I’m talking all of this within a 3 or 4 second span. The combat feels so fluid. Then add on boss battles and this game is a must play for anyone with an Xbox. I can’t wait to play legendary with friends when they allow that.

You're meant to use the dash with the hunters. Run towards them favoring the side with the shield. Dash forward past them triggering them to do the downward shield slam. Turn around and shoot them in the back. The more you've leveled up dash the easier it is to do.
Sure but how is that good design when the player is not guaranteed to have that upgrade? Should they not be beatable then? They're too responsive.

You can do it with the base version that everyone gets. Its just easier with the upgrades. That logic applies to using all of the equipment.

I love the overall feel and gameplay in this game so far. However, I'm just not feeling the pull to push through it at this time. I think the open world itself is fine, but even with that setting, traversing to random bases and clearing out enemies feels the same each time. You can take some neat approaches to clear enemies, for sure. But you're still clearing out enemies at the end of the day. With the missions themselves not being anything extraordinary, I just feel like the game doesn't have enough to really grip me.

The story itself is whatever. It's Halo. I'm not that worried about it. The gameplay is enough to make me push through for now, but I'm getting the feeling I'll be moving on to other games before I finish this one. It's not terrible by any means. The mechanics are all there, sound design is fantastic, some of the atmosphere is terrific, etc. But I feel like it doesn't all click together as it should.

Just completed it on Legendary on PC.

Awesome game with a couple of intense boss fights :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It would really shine with Ray Tracing reflections in the indoor levels. If the Flood was in i would have given it a 9.5 :messenger_horns:

Heroic solo is perfect, boss are not that bad if you use the grapple hook to avoid them.

Ia on normal take a deep dive dude.

What do you guys think the odds are of Campaign DLC??

I really enjoyed my time with this game and would like to see some more without it taking another 5 plus years.

I finished the game last night and I love, love, loved it. Unlike a lot of people, I thought the story was great. I thought it was super interesting. It really drew me in and kept me wanting to find out more. I loved all the characters, even the pilot I was bitching about earlier in this thread, by the end of the game I really liked him. Loved the Chief and The Weapon. The insanely hilarious Grunts are to die for. Such a great cast of well-written characters.

What I loved most was the outstanding game play, which is a hallmark of all Halo games, but to me this one is the best. The game is so much fun to play I'm starting a new game to play it all again. Unfortunately, I had trouble with several of the boss fights on Heroic so I'm not ready to try it on Legendary yet.
Yes, I'm a coward.

It could have been worse. It could have been like cod where you fight one enemy (humans) the whole game.

I'll take bad Halo over Call of Duty all day every day but at least with CoD it's more about the spectacle than anything else. With those games every time you shoot you get to see some kind of set piece with dramatic music. Removing a chunk of Halos sandbox for padding just feels bad.

I finished the campaign last night, and I think it was great. It is basically open world until you tell it to finish up. I played on Heroic, and there were some boss battles that just destroyed me, but I stayed with it and got through it. I missed a lot of the Audio logs, but I did get all the Spartan Cores. Overall I think it is one of the best stories they have done. I really thought Weapon would be annoying, but I thought she was great. Best facial expressions.

I finished the campaign today. I thought the story was great as well. It was tighter in scope and wasn't on a grand scale as say Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo Reach, but it was still enjoyable.

I hated "Fernie", the Echo 216 pilot at the begining as well, but there was some cool moments between him and the Chief throughout the game and he became a likable character. A nice return to Bungie Halo, where all the characters were endearing, even the enemies. A nice change from past 343 Halo games, where each game had two or three characters that were strait up unlikable and you would hear Halo fans complain about them for years afterwards. I don't know if it's Joe Staten or what, but kudos to 343 for bringing back the positive vibes with Infinite.

I'm going for the 8 hour speed run achievement on easy next. I also need to get that last skull on the last level, as that was the only collectable I missed. I thought I had met the requirements to have the door where the skull was at unlocked, but it got a little hectic on some of the battles on Heroic, so it wasn't unlocked when I got to it.

Anyways, great game and I'm looking forward to when Staten reveals the Live Service road map soon for Infinite, to see what the scope and frequency will be of future Infinite updates.

Using the grapple hook to grab a weapon to kill a group of bad guys when each of your existing weapons are all out of ammo will never fail to make you feel like the coolest motherfkr in the room :)

Ok i can't be the only one who spam the grapple hook explosion attack all the time and never use the other gadgets at all...

After upgrading hook and armour to the max i have no interest in upgrading the rest of the gadget lol.
Yeah I only used the other gadgets to get the achievements lol. That grapple doe

Also, have marines ride vehicles alongside you, and give some of them a grappleshot or a jetpack so they can follow you.
And the possibility to send them to a base or ask them to follow you. Even if it is through the menu (I hope they find a button combination though)

Initially i thought the open world format was great but after saving 20th marine group and destroying a dozen propaganda towers its really boring the hell out of me. Maybe in co-op it would have been more fun but thats not available. Meh.

Piece of piss on Legendary. Just drill shields away with plasma rifle and then finish the job on top of the door:

I recently finished the game on Legendary so just now came into this thread but I gotta say, the game was fun, except when it came to HVTs or Bosses. They were just a pain in the ass if you tried to do them the "legit" way. I always ended up cheesing them in one way or the other simply because of how much health they had and little dmg they took. I don't even know if there is enough ammo spread throughout the HVTs to do them in a reasonable way as you always have to duck and recharge shields after even a single hit of lvl 5 shields and hope you can manage to sneak in another chip dmg so they don't reg their shields either.

In general I have many issues with Halo Infinite. Especially when it comes to Story.. Oh god damn how much I hate the story development for Halo since 343 took over and Infinite just continues going down that awful path of them trying to kill of or remove everything that Bungie established.

Was about to ask my friend if they wanted to coop through the campaign. Turns out, you can't (yet). That is the only way to play Halo and it surprises me that this will be added at a later date, likely when everybody has moved on. Will the coop be for the campaign, or something else?

I’m thinking there will probably be dlc which is more biomes and co op.
That seems like the smartest way to go.

Edit: I have no sources for this. I just think it would be a good idea.

Do we know if it will be through the main campaign, or some kind of coop only missions? I have GamePass for about a month more and if the coop is not going to ever be with the main campaign, I may as well play it single player.

From a Windows Central article (Dec 13):

"Dec. 8, 2021, 343 Industries head of creative Joseph Staten said the team was aiming to launch the co-op campaign around the launch of multiplayer Season 2. Season 1 of the multiplayer is currently slated to end on May 2, 2022, so it's safe to assume May 2022 is when the co-op campaign will arrive."

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I can't find a video of it right now but there's a fantastic Grunt taunt for not beating the game on Legendary once you beat it lol.

Haha yea, once I got the wasp I just sat and blew them all up from the air. Cheesey? Yes but some of them could flatten your health in about 5 seconds otherwise.

I did them all after I finished the main game. I'll be honest,. now I've had a bit more time after doing so I'm not massively impressed by how little content this game actually had. For 6 years of development, it felt like I'd finished everything in like... 5 hours of actual gameplay. I would be somewhat narked if I'd paid full price for this & not just got it on gamepass.

So about halfway through the campaign it just says "fuck it" with the open world and funnels you into a corridor of an underground layer followed by a base attack on a bit of the map with nothing on it except that campaign mission. The more I play the more I can see this is held together by string and tape. Game is saved by the grapple hook and just generally shooting shit for sure.
