“Gaming is the most dynamic and exciting category in entertainment across all platforms today and will play a key role in the development of metaverse platforms,” said Satya Nadella

Ugh MS chasing the metaverse too.

Goddammit no….this meta verse shit is the dumbest thing I’ve ever fucking heard. I hope Zuckerberg stubs his big toe for even bringing it to the forefront.

Which ones? The only big one left after those is pretty much Ubisoft? Maybe Square Enix too.

Ani trust wise, theres Ubisoft, Tencent, Nintendo, Playstation, Namco, Square, Capcom, Konami.
So buying something Take2 and EA wont cause any issues but it will basically mean they own the western gaming. If people are happy with 1 company owning that much thats cool for them, but id rather not 1 any company have that much control over games I want to play lol

Buy success is the MS way.

I think Nintendo and Playstation have to follow suit and buy IP’s before MS buys them all lol

Lol unfortunately they can't follow suit on the same scale at all. They're dwarves compared to MS. Neither Nintendo or Sony can buy a $70 billion publisher.

What they can do is continue making high quality games you can't find anywhere else... No reason they'll stop selling.

But losing CoD will hurt PS hardware sales for sure. Maybe that means Sony will have to go full publisher one day with their own store on PC. We'll see.

Microsoft made this move for the money. Warzone will make Xbox a shit ton of money, and considering that all future Activision/Blizzard games will be headed to Game Pass day one... yea. And should Microsoft at some stage later decide to make a specific COD project exclusive to Xbox, they can get away with doing exactly that, even on a timed basis, but it makes sense to use this purchase as a means of ensuring Xbox is bringing in a shit ton of money at all times.

Bethesda is the one you keep exclusive, this is the one you use to pad your bank account and eat from all those Playstation sales. Game Pass will benefit all the more from it. Microsoft now has its finger on the very pulse of the gaming casual market, because while I haven't bought a COD game in forever and don't really expect this move to change that, it's loved by the casual market out there, it just fucking sells. Microsoft now also owns the MW engine and World of Warcraft, which is exciting.

A next gen World of Warcraft, or a next gen MMO out of Activision Blizzard would be no joke financially speaking.

Probably this. They won't want to do anything to damage the asset they just bought. You really have to get maximum return to make the Activision/Blizzard model work. Still would be a master stroke for Xbox though if these games are on GP, plus these games will no longer be marketed by PS. All those things add up.

the war is over and ms won it. sony can't really compete with this kind of spending. realistically they can probably only buy square/capcom. MS might not even be done yet they could be eyeing up EA, T2, Ubisoft next.

You underestimate Microsoft's ability to fuck things up...

Microsoft wow wow wow wow wow. Nobody can ever complain again about Xbox not having exclusives. Microsoft are literally going to rule the gaming world now, with the amount of studios they have and will get.

All the games they bought are pretty shit though. Activision and Blizzard have been a dump for the last 5 years.

And Bethesda wasn't really a good buy. They basically spent 7 billion on Skyrim.

These seem like panic buys. Sony won't be worried about this because they have a history of releasing good games.

Literally, they are killing gaming one acquisition at a time. I don’t know why this would make anybody happy because it’s not going to stop. The US took MS to court in the 90s over trying to monopolize. If people think this is a good thing for gaming, nope.
all some people care about is if it means they'll be able to play more games for 'free' on GamePass

there's no way Game Pass doesn't see a price increase after this deal though, this is an absolutely insane investment MS just made & they will want to recoup the costs

assuming it even goes through, buying a second third-party publisher is bound to raise some flags in the government departments that will have to sign off on this

I like Game Pass but as concerned as some of us were about the Bethesda deal, this is 10x worse (and not just because MS spent 10x as much)

Wow, gaming industry is gonna be shit in like a decade if this shit keeps happening. This is kind of getting gross if Microsoft just buys everyone out. Don't know how how people can see this as a good thing.
It'll be fine. People crying about beloved IP "stolen" from them keep forgetting that there are still creatives out there creating new great things all the time that will be classics in 20 years. No company can own all possible ways of distributing games, so there'll always be a market for newcomers.

Tribalism. Pure tribalism with some willful blindness thrown in as to what happens when people with deep pockets find a way to corner a market.
I don't know if your saying I'm part of some tribalism or not. But I don't play any activision games and I own a gaming pc, even if i did.

Plus I own small amount of stock in activision so I'm making money on this. So I don't care about this.

If not what you meant. Then sorry bruv

They're not panic buys. They have cash to burn thanks to cloud. They're momentum plays.

They're taking the opposite approach to Apple.

Diablo/Doom crossover looter/shooter FPS (Destiny clone) is may new dream game now.
---------------

An important thing to remember is PlayStation has sold CoD likely more than CoD has sold PlayStation. many gamers will just switch to what other game is available. it hurts Sony, but at most it just a 10-15% shift in market share. Maybe Sony and EA will see an opportunity for a Respawn military FPS.

Videogame monopoly in the making...expect higher prices and less innovation if this type of consolidation continues..

Almost impossible to monopolies creativity. It's different to patent protected software IP. MS paid a heavy ransom for Acti+Zenimax. Sony need to invest 5% of what that cost and they will have more than doubled their 1st party output. Sony under pressure is a good thing for gamers.

Of course they will.

They will continue to make great games and hopefully develop a handheld.

This move will force them to evolve. Good stuff.

Yah, they have been on costing mode for a while. the double Acti/Zeni punches are almost like the PS3 crisis. hopefully it forces a new evolution.

I don't believe Microsoft is removing Call of Duty from Playstation. This is a move purely for the overall money that it will bring in to Xbox for the big COD franchises, but it does mean that Game Pass is officially an unstoppable juggernaut of a service.

Removing the library from PlayStation is what will bring more subs to gamepass. It's the whole point.

Now imagine if Microsoft Xbox bought AMD and Nvidia

RIP Sony and Nintendo ( cant make chip anymore)

Thats how you kill the competition

Intel is still available. they do x86 and also GPUs now. at worst Sony would just go back to designing their own chips again, there is much more know how available in the open talent market today compared to 15 years ago..

I agree but they will have to buy japanese publishers. They can afford a Capcom or Squre etc. Gaming is changing and if they want to keep the Resident Evils, Monster Hunter for long they’ll have to buy them before MS does

They still have not produced anything that makes airwaves. ANd mismanaged 343, rare among other projects.

They have produced a number of games that made airwaves.

343i is mismanaged by the people in charge of 343i.

I would suggest laying off of the console war shtick, mate.

There is nothing Sony can do to combat this. They can't get into an arms race with MS.

Sony's path here is inevitable. They either get bought up by Google, Apple, whoever or they eventually let Game Pass on PlayStation and their first party output goes multiplatform.

This purchase today is literally industry changing, the board has been reset.
I hate this with every fiber of my being
