Breaking: Microsoft to acquire Activision-Blizzard in near 70$ billion deal

That does seem to be a killer blow. I’ve got an Xbox and PlayStation so it’s no skin off my nose but there really is nothing Sony can do to respond to this.

It’s like all the oil money coming into random Premier League clubs while giants like Man Utd and Liverpool have to sit there and watch themselves get left behind.
So it’s a really positive thing?

Are current Rockstar worth it? All the talent has left and they're currently struggling with the GTAV port and restarted GTA6 multiple times now.
have you seen the headlines about Activision recently? rockstar might be having a tough time but not as bad.

rockstar is worth it every day of the week. gta v has been selling like crazy for best part of a decade. even if GTA VI isn't as good you just know it's gonna sell like crazy and hey they can milk it for another 8 years.

MS would be stupid to NOT buy TakeTwo given the opportunity.

Ergh..why are you advocating this ( another nasty take over) ?

Why do you want GTA game gone for other players ? Thats shit man

I saw this, and thought it was a wasted opportunity.

EA has a better, broad catalogue, and BioWare might fair better under MS then EA...

But then again, they destroyed Rare...

This is great news for my Game pass sub, but I can't think of a action vision game that's a must play

I think the biggest issue with EA is that their biggest franchise, and the most comparable one to COD, is FIFA ...and they don't really own it.
With COD Microsoft get to truly own the entire IP and do whatever they want with it

Thats too bad was hoping for a destiny x halo. If bungie stuck with ms ive always had a gut feeling that was what halo would evolve into. I guess that mean no myth sequel also one of my favorite pc games.
Bungie wanted to make Destiny but MS wanted them to keep making Halo games. That’s why they split. Big error on Microsoft’s part but 343 did deliver with MCC and Infinite.

70 billion is just fuckloads of money , and for what a yearly cod ?
At this speed ms should just buy ea and ubisoft so they have every one of big publishers
lmao it's more than CoD

candy crush is making a billion a year alone.

we can get future tony hawk, crash, spyro games.

diablo overwatch starcraft warcraft

People keep talking about EA as a potential target, but I think it is highly unlikely. EA makes a huge portion of it's revenue from licensed sports games, which are worth little to a platform holder because no league is going to allow them to be exclusive to one platform. I actually think FIFA and NBA2k make it less desirable for platforms like Sony or Microsoft to buy EA or Take 2. EA certainly has a ton of good IP but their studios have a pretty bad track record over the last couple years too
Yeah forget about the leagues would have say those games still sell tons, maybe with a Gamepass option of eventually being everywhere might still be in a possible future but yeah that be a problem for now.

Massive deal. Great for me. More exclusive games coming to Game Pass day one. I now no longer have to buy Diablo IV and since it won't leave the service, it can be a long term game for me. What a great day and this generation is already blowing away every previous generation since SNES/Genesis for me and best of all, it's only going to get better!!

The thing I think that gets lost in the hoopla is the money side of this and how a company like MS often has major incentives / tax savings to make these kinds of moves even if they are potentially paying a higher price than they necessarily should.

Sony for years maintains its exclusive games and buys studios here and there to have exclusive games (which is legit).

Microsoft comes, buys some studios and people; "Oh no, that's nonsense! Monopoly! They're taking games off the PS. They're going to destroy the industry...".

I do not understand. There is no logic or interest as a consumer, just cheering for one brand to win over another.

The difference is MS buying major publishers and companies that own HUGE chunks of the industry.

There's a vast difference being glossed over. That's what the monopoly discussion is about.

Thank god it's not Sega or some other company I actually give a shit about!

Well, it ain't until it is my friend. That's how monopolies work and Microsoft is no stranger to buying up companies to remove competition, see their United States vs Microsoft investigations and lawsuit in the 90s.

You think MS would let Sony buy Take 2? 😂
They should.

IMO MS' next target once this closes in 12-18 months will be EA or Take Two.

Take Two won't consider selling until the Zynga acquisition completes. It'll cost 30B+. Likely 40B+. Sony can buy Take 2 in one of three ways.

1) Loans and finance
2) Stock and cash transaction
3) Divest SPE and use the capital to purchase Take Two.

SPE will go for 30B+ freeing up the capital for a much needed acquisition. SPE also has one of the lowest ROIC for Sony (~7%).

I understand your point. So let the authorities in this matter decide what is a monopoly or not and not our perception of what is too much or too little. Could we say that Steam has a monopoly on PC just because the "majority" plays on(Edit) it?

3. Game Pass for PS5 is coming along with Starfield and the rest once thought stripped from the platform. Bookmark this post.
So what does that even mean though? And I'm not being snarky, I'm just generally clueless on gamepass.

If gamepass were to come to Sony would it be like streaming xbox games from the cloud? Or do people think that XBOX games would be locked behind a gamepass paywall in the PSN store? And would it be MS hosting all the storage space and MS reaping 100% of the profit or would Sony get a cut?

I just have a hard time envisioning gamepass being on Sony consoles and how people think it would function.

Loeb was calling for that since at least 2013...SONY dug in their heels...might be the time if it helps them. I could see Amazon picking it up.

😂What?! How did you even come up with this comparison? Makes fuck all sense.

How is that even comparable? Steam doesn't own or buy those devs and publishers, they also don't prevent others from having their own launcher, GOG, Epic etc.

It was just a rhetorical example. Like I said; I understand your point.

I ask another question then; Is Sony "wrong" for not allowing its exclusive games on other platforms?

Do you understand my point?
