Retailer puts warning notice on PS5s: ‘Microsoft has bought Activision!’

A French retailer has allegedly been spotted putting a warning on its PlayStation 5 section, telling potential customers that they may want to reconsider their purchase due to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

As pictured by Twitter user HazzadorGamin, French supermarket chain Cora is claimed to have placed the notice on its shelves, which reads: “Notice to gamers, Microsoft has bought Activision! Choose your machine carefully (Call of Duty)”.

Cora has more than 60 stores in France, and 20 more in Romania, Belgium and Luxembourg.

If the image is accurate, while it’s not clear if the Cora notice is widespread, it could represent another potential example of the wide-reaching influence of the games industry’s biggest-ever buyout.

I think they're just covering their bases that teenagers/younger folks who only play CoD won't start bringing their console back to the store to return.
Right. They should also warn customers about spider man too , we don’t want jimmy not being able to play spider man on switch.

Also considering call of duty is releasing on playstation for the next 2 years at the minimum this is a little pre mature.

It’s not even going to be a problem for a couple of years, and by then it’ll be much more common knowledge.

And even THEN, so they bring it back to exchange it for an Xbox, if they heeded the notice then they would’ve done that in the first place.

It’s a pointless endeavour.

Coincidentally, I don't see any PS5s behind that note, seems weird to convince people to buy Microsoft's console while they're looking at Playstation gamepads.

So in reality that sign was put there to sell more Series S while PS5 is out of stock but of course fanboys gonna fanboy.

That's assuming if it's even real, probably just a hoax set up by one of the workers.

people need to understand what the cod real deal is. It change everything...the effects will be evident in the next few years
Yeah seriously there are a few million cod players that play it and nothing else, I wouldn't be surprised if cod plus Bethesda makes reaching 100 million ps5s extremely difficult
Still think Sony will out sell ms this gen but more like 95 to 75 instead of the 2 to 1 this gen

I need to ask: why people should buy ps5 now for COD 2024? How the hell they know what people will want more on ps5 from 2024 and beyond?

CoD players go where the game has the most content or extras. That's why they migrated to PS4 when Sony landed exclusive maps or whatever. You think MS isn't going to do the same for CoD 2022? I'm glad I'm not as delusional as you.
Still you not answer to my question. The only delusional is you my dear. No one know what could happen in 2024, could even be no one will care anymore about COD on ps5 lol so stop rise the flag for your Xbox Marketing change in the years as people tastes.

All they gotta do is check GAF and listen to the people who think all the games will still be on ps5
Well a bit off topic but since we are talking about neogaf - we suck at predicting things. Once there was this narrative that exclusives didn’t sell consoles… now we are back at it. COD for years been crap yet now it’s a amazing etc…

Also if some only play COD then buy and Xbox, that leaves space for a new shooter game to shine on PlayStation.

Gotta move those Xbox’s that have been collecting dust somehow.

I worked in a big german electronics retailer before and I know that if stock becomes older than 3 months, it will show red in the system, and managers / employees are advised / pressured to give customers a purchase advise for it, especially when it's for products that have a set retail price and local advertising doesn't work.
The manager of the department has some room to decide what kind of measures are taken, to switch the focus from a product that has a high demand and is out of stock, to a product that is becoming a "code red"
and I have seen the most inconvenient things happening and it's probably what's happening here.

Also, returns are bad and often precautions are taken to inform customers about a certain thing, so people won't return the product.
but let's be real who would return a PS5 in times where you could sell it for profit.

TLDR: there is probably another product in stock that they need to get out of the door to keep the flow alive and be able to buy new things

I did answer your question though. The people who buy and compete in CoD yearly will go where the best version of the game is (on console).
I take you seriously for a second.bThe hell you know what will happen to COD and ps5 from 2024. Didn't Spencer saying he want to keep COD on ps5? We are 2 years away from 2024. Why people should care now to COD 2024. The hell is that stupidity.

Because there are a whole lot of people that only play call of duty, if they are currently choosing between ps5 and xsx, eventually only 1 will have call of duty. Might as well get on the right horse now,

Or maybe the retails tries to place more Xbox possible left in the store. Think about it.

So let me understand. A store manager in Belgium or wherever this is gets a great idea and prints something on the retailer's letterhead. ONE Twitter user posts it saying that "some retail stores across globe" have started doing this without any evidence whatsoever...

... And this site decides to post it as news alleging that it's an official initiative of the chain, not only not having any evidence that it is, but not even having any evidence that this happened at all since they don't know if the image is accurate (Spoiler: it could very well be a joke).

I guess some people get really, really desperate for some traffic in the weekend since they're unable to find actual news. May just drop down at the local Gamestop and ask the store manager if he has some juicy console war "news" I can post pretending that "Gamestop" is doing it. 😂

They have PS5 to buy?
I only ever saw Xbox series at FNAC
Lol thoughtful post, I have not once seen a PS5 for sale at a retailer, a warning on the shelf seems pointless.

I have not seen a Xbox Series X either on the shelf. But Series S is common.
